Actually for me, if Ipad 2 comes with "new display technology, USB port, gyroscope, video recording and front-facing FaceTime camera and thinner", these are considered a big changes already, well at least, big hardware changes. If the rumors is true, then I really suggest we should wait for the 2 instead of getting now..

You buy stuff which you can afford to suit your need more than want.

Else you gonna regret every once a year during the upgrade of the product.

I say if you wanna buy the iPad now just buy it, and if iPad 2 comes out and you buy it, that's your right. Your money, spend it your way. Personally, I'll wait for iPad 2 but who knows, I might just get an iPad myself, primarily because I haven't got the privelege to own an iPad two seconds after it launches in the world.

if the sim card only allow data transfer , then you had to get ipad 3G or mifi...other wise can put in phone and do tethering

The problem with waiting for local launch is that you have to wait this long to get it. And if you are pining on the hope that the iPad can and will be able to be serviced locally (under warranty), not even the folks at VRTech has the capability or expertise to do so. Which is why you see iPhone 4s sent for repair to Maxis gets a 2 weeks MINIMUM notice for repair before it is returned back to you, because it is sent to Singapore for such maintainance duties. The advantage of "local warranty" dwindles down to nothing now, isn't it?

There are proven cases of iPhones bought out of country of purchase, but purchased outright in Apple Stores, accepted for warranty by an authorised service center in Singapore, despite them being purchased in UK/AUS for example. The same case applies to iPads as well, irregardless of where it is purchased, AS LONG AS it is purchased at an Apple Store. So with that in mind, there is no reason to worry about warranties at all.

As for privilege to get it "two seconds" after it launches, it's a matter of asking around and doing your legwork. Malu bertanya, sesat jalan. Or in this, you negate your option of getting it early and at non-cutthroat prices. I'm just sayin'....
