Hi all,

Am interested to buy an iPad now, but some concerns here... iOS 4.2 coming out anytime now, so I wanted to wait for the 4.2 iPad retail set... But afraid that once 4.2 box set is here, demand would be high and will be in a long waiting list again...

Should I buy one with 3.2.2 now (that is readily available in stores) and self upgrade later when 4.2 is released? Or should I wait for the 4.2 box set first and risk waiting for weeks or months?

I know that it's the same in the end, but there's something about getting 4.2 right out of the box... smile.gif

The upgrade from 3.2.2 to 4.2 for existing iPad owners will be free of charge right?

I also considered waiting for iPad 2 (rumoured to b coming out either dec, Jan or April..or never...) but it appears tat iPad 2 with face time n cameras will be in 7" format like the samsung galaxy tab... Something I'm not too keen due to the smaller screen size...

Sigh... Decisions, decisions... Any advice from apple fans?

BTW, I'll be buying from singapore retail store...and this will be my first apple product...

Hey Jess
first off
1) There's some maxis insider claims that the ipad would be coming out b4 Xmas in Malaysia, which is up to ur believe or not tongue.gif
2) Upgrading firmware is free
3) From my point of view , I don't think Apple would launch a new iPad in January , and Apple products' price are very stable

Btw, what's the purpose of purchasing an iPad for u ? Leisure ?

Steve Jobs at the last press conference had already clearly said /pointed out there will not be a 7'' for ipad as he feels the 7" tablet is a DOA ( dead on arrival) by other tablet manufacturers. This is what he said :

-- Just a handful of credible entrants. Almost all use 7" screen, compared to iPad at nearly 10" screen. 7" screen is only 45% as large as iPad's screen. Hold an iPad in portrait view and draw a horizontal line halfway down. What's left is a 7" screen...too small. There are clear limits to how close elements can be on the screen before users can't touch accurately. We believe 10-inch screen is minimum necessary.

You have laid out your thought nicely there. Now it remain only 1 question for yourself , how urgent do you need it? If No, I suggest you wait for iPad 2. .. No sarcasm meant here.

One can never catchup with technology. By the time ipad2 is out, we will see potential users asking when will ipad3 be out
Buy it now if you need it . Experience the joy and benefit of using it now.

Looking at apple strategies of updates their macs, iPods, iPhone I don't think we will see any new iPad until at least till June next year

I'm interested in iPad for work purposes.. Leisure? Sure, why not..but main use will be for work..

Maxis Malaysia iPad ? Nah, I'll pass.. No need for more unnecessary commitments..

iPad 2 won't b in 7" format? I'm happy with that! But when will it b available? Noticed for apple products, there's always lots of speculations before the actual product launch... Speculations are good for apple, in the sense that it brings out lots of demand, but it's bad for my heart... Ooo... Is it coming ouft? Is it? IS IT?????!!!!

Can't take that kind of pressure, I got a bad heart...

How urgent do I need an iPad rite now?
I suppose I can live with or without it.. I just wanna see if it would improve my productivity at work..

Can I wait for iPad 2 for an indefinite amount of months?
I guess not blush.gif

Ok, how about this...

I buy an iPad 1 32 GB wifi+3G tomorrow.
If iPad 2 launches before June 2011, I'll sell off iPad 1 at 20% off the price I bought together with the original receipt/warranty n buy iPad 2.
Any takers?
Pls sign up now! tongue.gif
If yes, I'll buy iPad 1 tomorrow. Serious.

Will b back in kl tomorrow nite.

I will strongly advised you to reconsider getting the iPad for work. The latest MacBook air 11" will be a better choice. The iPad is meant to be a leisure and consumer gadget. It is not so suitable for creative or office related. If you plan to use it mainly for office related you will be dissapointed. That is how I feel. The iPad is great for browsing, ebooks, magazine, gaming , email is mediocre though.
You need to purchase office suite or iWork as not provided. You can get some mediocre and features limited free app as alternative. Editing is terrible unless you have good and accurate typing. You have to consider all alternatives of file transfers since it lack usb .

Yea, I like the phrase ' experience the joy and benefit....as long as our wallet allow :-). On serious note, my iPad really serve me well in terms or portability and instant access to Internet ,and no more worrying about battery life or the few seconds booting up wait :-)

It is instant on EXACTLY same as ipad in standby mode. The battery on standby mode can last 30 hours. On both ipad and the new MBA, still need about 15 -20 secs to start

@jesse

The "Instant On" feature on the MacBook Air is referring to the MBA being able to be used instantly after lifting the lid up from sleep, similar with iPad being turned on to use after it has gone to sleep mode. Just like the iPad, the MBA still needs time to boot from cold boot.

laugh.gif Bro-in-law and sis got attracted with my iPad, so they just got one from Singapore. They just got hooked up with the Harbor Master. tongue.gif

Good also more people in the family are having iPad already. One of the cousins already showed her sign of being poisoned, luckily her dad works in Singapore all the time. laugh.gif
