I'm sorry if I post my questions on the wrong thread. Seldom post here and if these questions are cleared, I may get my iPad this weekend...

1) I'll be getting my friend who works in SG to buy me the iPad. I'll order it through SG Online Apple Store and get it shipped to her office. I'll be paying via CC, and does anyone tried using CIMB card before and it went through? unsure.gif

2) If she doesn't open the packaging and let it sealed and unopened till hands it over to me, is there any possibility that she will be taxed even for just one unit? unsure.gif

3) The Online Store shows SGD 728 for 16GB WiFi version, is that the final amount I'll be paying?

Thanks a lot for reading and looking forward to your replies! I'm sorry this is my first time buying stuff from overseas. blush.gif notworthy.gif

To reply the previous msg,

I just got my iPad via my friend who works in sg too. He brought it via bus and doesn't seem to have any problems. And the amount shown on the site is the final amount you have to pay, no extra cost.

Actually it may be more convenient for her to head over to one of the apple retailers in sg to get the iPad...it's also the same price. Coz during delivery she may not be at home etc...
*
Thanks, will take note on that. smile.gif
It will be shipped to her office and she has no problem with that.
I'll try to arrange with her on the payment issue. Thanks. biggrin.gif

By the way, when your friend brought back for you, was your iPad still sealed and unopened? I prefer the feeling of owning a boxed unit and I'll do the unbox myself. tongue.gif

Spore online store accepts only Spore credit cards and deleivery address must be same as credit card address
NO need to worry about tax - I have been buying notebooks, smartphones all intact bringing in from Spore for last few years - the customs didn't even bother if is only a unit ; if ask just said is for personal use. They don't believe, just open box to show them
*
Aww. There it goes. sad.gif
Do you think if I can try buying it and see if it goes through? unsure.gif

Anyway, saw one seller on Garage Sales that only charges RM 100 extra for all SG sets. I find it quite reasonable considering RM 100 includes handling and delivery fees. hmm.gif

Haha. After all the predictable hassles, I think I'll just get from one of the sellers here. laugh.gif

RM 1899 inclusive free OEM case, screen protector, handsfree and jailbreak service upon request.

After calculating, it is more or less the same if I get from S'pore, I still need to buy those basic accessories eventually. laugh.gif

That's a good price there. smile.gif
But most probably you will be wanting new casing soon, coz there are soooo many beautiful and irresistable designs!! tongue.gif
Welcome to the community~!
*
I guess so after much survey in GS. hmm.gif
Ya, a new casing will come in later when my wallet is recovered because as an avid photographer, I definitely need the camera kit. Here it goes. So for me the kit is more essential to me than the case, for now. laugh.gif
Yeah, wait till I officially get one and will report to here. biggrin.gif

It comes with an OEM case though. By the way, is iPad difficult to be used for a newbie like me? laugh.gif

Got this tip from : http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=2933410

You can play any video file using IPAD VLC, just rename file ext.

Rename the filename to filename.avi. Thats it!
Any supported format in the Desktop version, Ipad version support. just rename to something.avi.
eg.

superduper.rmvb to superduper.rmvb.avi
superduper.vob to superduper.vob.avi

Load in using itunes, and play! To remove, delete the file from within itune's ipad/apps/vlc, highlight the file and press del key.

I dont have any RMVB files - can some one test and revert
*
Wow, so simple?
Gosh, I need RMVB for my daily TVB series dose. drool.gif

QUOTE(euphoriaa @ Sep 27 2010, 10:50 PM)
EDIT: fellow maxis broadband user, it is still available to upgrade braoadband from 3GB data cap to unlimted with the rm99 package?
*
The RM 99 package is no longer available for new subscribers even for an upgrade. smile.gif
I'm using that by the way, as an existing user. smile.gif

Oh ya, if nothing happens I'll join the community here tomorrow! biggrin.gif
Already made an order for my iPad 16GB WiFi, yeah can only afford the cheapest package. blush.gif

My Internet is turned on 24/7, so I need something that can last forever. laugh.gif
But well, wait till my wallet recovers, in the mean time steal neighbour's WiFi connection, can't afford to get another MiFi unless a used set. laugh.gif

*
Hahaha. Not going to sell no matter what, shared with main line, each of us only bears RM 68 and can use it at the same time at different places with no limit on download.
Every month, download at least 30-40GB. biggrin.gif

Added on September 28, 2010, 12:37 amGuys, can I ask if the e-books I downloaded from online can be synced to the iPad and read them using the iBook? They are in PDF format. If not, how should I go about from it? smile.gif

I hate this kind of feelings when I came into the office happily told my colleagues I have decided the iPad over the lens and they are saying I'm wasting my money... When they asked what am I going to do with it, I had 10001 and reasons to debate but I failed just now to utter out a single out.

Haiz. sad.gif But don't get me wrong, these colleagues are superb people just that they are worried of me being a fresh grad. smile.gif

Anyway, I'll be getting one later and I'm sure I'll be the happiest child on earth. Let's hope my judgment is accurate this round.

if u r thinking that ipad can be a replacement for ur laptop u will be greatly disappointed.

if you know you are getting it as an entertainment device, im sure it will serve u well.
*
I already have a laptop so will never treat it as a replacement. smile.gif
Entertainment, what an expensive entertainment device. laugh.gif

I guess all these are not important now, I'll get one later. biggrin.gif

Yes, have ordered that one. biggrin.gif
It is a must for me, else I can't transfer my photos. laugh.gif
By the way, since it comes with an USB port, does it mean I can use it for thumbdrive or portable hard disk? smile.gif

@frutie: What phone are you using? If you are using an Android-based phone you can enable your phone to become a "Wi-Fi Hotspot". Even if you're using an iPhone you can tether your Internet to your iPad but your iPhone has to be jailbroken. Just my 2 cents, hope I've helped with your temporary Mi-Fi woes.
*
I'm using company's phone Nokia E71 but then my data SIM card is forever stored in my USB modem connected to my laptop.
Ya, if I get the MiFi, my current modem will be redundant. I love it so much! cry.gif

QUOTE(Agito666 @ Sep 28 2010, 11:32 AM)
oh ya.... Frutie, you also can install free Adobe photoshop express for ipad biggrin.gif

but just can edit simple stuff only.
*
Hey, that's really useful! biggrin.gif
I only want to edit simple stuffs. tongue.gif

By the way, kinda interested in your stylus, looking at it now but kinda confusing with the name. rclxub.gif

Added on September 28, 2010, 11:40 amBy the way, can I use the stylus for note taking, pretty need it when I go for meetings.

ya kinda crappy web design.... if dun have member recommended i also wont open bulk list to try buy this stylus to try...

pogo i heard sometimes had to press harder to detect by ipad.
Dagi pula had to use in fixed angle to do that, the "point" of the pen is plastic so you had to paste Screen protector before use the stylus to prevent your lovely ipad got scratches. tongue.gif
*
Cool. Is it recommended for sketching only? How about note taking? Oh well, is note taking a good thing on iPad on the first place?

yes...basically all stylus ( capasitive stylus) are act like extension of your fingers....
in other words, the stylus is a conductor to direct our static electric to ipad's screen. smile.gif
*
Woot! Love it! Might drop by in a sort while but RM 60+ for the stylus is a bit heartache for me. laugh.gif

QUOTE(zhou86 @ Sep 28 2010, 11:50 AM)
You can use it for notetaking...handwritten notes. Just get the app Penultimate...
*
OK man! Thanks a lot! I gotta bug you guys life a lot today.
So in order to register for an iTunes account, I need to get a free app first?

Nope. The first time you connect your iPad to your comp with iTunes installed, iTunes will auto detect, open and prompt you to register your iPad for warranty and iTunes account...then it will auto sync and you are good to go...

If you guys wanna get a stylus for your iPad.
I recommend that you search in YouTube for "DIY iPad Stylus".
I made it with household items in less than a minute and it works fine!

This looks ugly but can be found easily at everyone's house:

This rocks but I don't think I have the material... sweat.gif
