actually i find the car's sound insulation from outside is super good. u can't hear the other cars / vehicles but the only complain is internally u can hear the engine and road noise. but on the RE050 seems ok tho still new and of coz a bit louder but i expect the sound to go down after the tyres are run-in proper.
Before buying the 1.4TSI i went to test drive the Alfa 159. Very gd handling and comfortable but dun think is my type of car, very jerky esp when u wanna hav a "shock" boost.. SA explained to me that it's coz it's like a "manual" car just it auto-clutch for u .... haha... if u can understand wat i'm trying to say ...
loving the DSG dude... hit 180km/h easily ..at between 3k-4k rpm i think (if not mistaken) .. had a short burst of speed yesterday ard 2am along nkve...lolx
that's what i thought, how can azxel said it's hard not to go above 140. plus the speedo on VW cars are a bit on the high side, you can confirm by GPS readings.
Alfa 159 is a nice car, there's 3.2 V6 version available for below rm300k

but rule for alfas : buy first, think later
so you got the RE050 for your 17"? it's not the quietest of tyre from what i've heard, michelin PS3 / GY f1 ASY handles road noise better

Oooh? I didn't hear any engine noise when I test drove the Golf (even could barely hear the signal indicator tick!) and that was what impressed me.. hehe
Was wondering if a change of tyres would help with the road noise or not..
I think the 159 is still using selespeed which isn't very smooth... the new Guiletta uses dual dry clutch (thinking of getting the manual as I love driving manual cars)
I gotta agree with you that the DSG gear box is ultimate man!! nothing (so far, the cars I've driven) comes close!

yeah i think the engine noise is quiet too, for GTI the exhaust makes it louder, but i enjoy that
the smoothness of DSG can't quite match normal auto/cvt ones, but it's better than selespeed or bmw's SMG
