The difference can be a lot and it can also be hidden. A simple method to show the difference is to view image galleries in the Windows Explorer in icon mode. With SSDs it'll almost be instantaneous and noticeably slower for HDDs. However, Windows 7 will then hide the difference by using the cache, so long as it has spare memory available.

If you're lacking in RAM, SSDs will give a noticeable all around improvement. Even if you're not lacking in RAM, SSDs will still be good for the initial scan and generally lower latency.

If you have the budget, I would recommend considering owikh84's RM 750 for an OEM Intel G2 160GB. While it isn't as fast as current SSDs, it is still good enough on performance and rather cheap on capacity.

I've recently updated both my X25 and X18 rclxms.gif

updating the X25 had no issues, with the OS(win7 32bit) went without problems.

however, updating the X18 had some issues. after updating, the OS(win7 64bit) cannot boot up. had to reinstall the OS.

overall, haven't really noticed any changes upfront... doh.gif biggrin.gif

The new Intel SSD firmware doesn't carry a significant performance improvement patch. You should only expect increased stability and reliability. And that isn't something that is noticeable unless you have the related problems. tongue.gif

Owikh is selling OEM Intel G2 160GB SSDs for RM 750. Check his signature. 250MB/s read and 100 MB/s write. One week personal warranty only as it is OEM. Be sure to stress test it before the week is out. smile.gif

It is rather dated, but still performs well enough and is attractive for that capacity at that price.

For Booting, programmes & applications files, even 30GB is more than sufficient actually.. I have both SSD 30GB inside my Desktop & 40GB inside my notebook.

I still having xtra 10GB+ & 19GB+ on both computers respectively rclxms.gif ..Anyway, the 30GB Kinston giving lousy Windows esperience index (6.7 after OC) compare to Muskin 40GB (7.7 stock)...Kinston having very low write speed..sigh..should hv get the mushkin sad.gif

For those really on budget & wanna experience instant satisfaction of OC, the 30GB Kinston now only ~RM228 (Startec). but for really high read/write speed and also budget, go for Mushkin.40GB..~ RM330

Dont worry about 1 week warranty, i am using it for 3.5 months already still tip top condition, give some credit to Owikh for selling the oem ssd at that price.

OCZ Vertex 2.. seems to be that the 25nm is slower in writing compared to the 34nm nand size of the same version. And they do it secretly changing from 34nm to 25nm. With the reviews already out on the 34nm version, everybody bought it thinking it will be the same thing with the same result. But they reported slower writing speeds, and apparently it's because of the 25nm nand size being slower, and have less life in it too compared to 34nm.

They're now offering to those that bought the drive with the 25nm nand flash to return the drive back to them and get credit and they have to topup a bit more if they want to get the 34nm version. Funny eh..

Smaller transistors, more leakage, thus die off faster
Smaller transistors, more storage per chip, less memory channels, thus slower speed. They probably need to maintain the chip number to get the same performance.e
