Why I kept thinking that Jangan Pandang Belakang & Senario The Movie will be upscale by Astro...
the most horrible thing is probably they will just "crop" the letterbox black bar and zoom it to fit 16:9 screen...

Did those film shot in HD? I dont think so. Upscale are the only way but why must select these 2 movie...

Only those AF concert were shot in HD. But dunno about the miniseries thought...

Only Astro know why they select those two movies instead many films else...

Name me 2 MALAY movies that has been shot in HD..??? n u will be scratching ur head juz like Astro would..
Jangan Pandang Belakang was probably chosen because of its popularity as a horror flick..
The Senario movie is probably chosen because it is fairly recent and because they are promoting it 4 the Mustika package this month..

N 4 u guys who have been crying out loud for Malay HD channel..i will bet my money now that u guys will be complaining 'why upscale HD..??? f**k la astro'..or 'y la no new programme?? y only repeat the same programme?? stupid astro and so on'

The fact of the matter is that, juz look at the programmes that will be on RAYA HD..HD programmes are so limited to even fill up a temporary channel with only the AF8 Final concert that is confirmed as a HD programme..n we know that most of the programme will be upscaled HD.. Some might say better upscale HD than SD..but then u will hear voices complaining that Astro are liars for saying a upscale HD channel or programme as being HD..

What im trying to say is that, HD programmes and shows, especially Malay, are very rare in the film market today..im sure local film makers are going towards the HD world if not already..but I would rather have a good quality HD channel with a variety of shows and programming than having a channel filled with upscaled HD with the odd one or two HD programmes on it..juz having a Malay HD channel just for the sake of having it will not please everyone..

Movies are normally shot on film. Now if the original film master (nitride) is stored well, they can be retreived and scanned to HD frame by frame. Its a tedious process. The other way was the converted to the film to the DPX masters, the DPX can then be converted to HD.

Film has more resolution than HD, thats how the old movies are then mastered in HD.

Yes you can. Tuner means access to satellite signal. If you are watching a recorded program, you tuner is free. So since you tuner is free, you can assign it for recording purposes.


Nope, PVR can do better. While watching a recorded content and you'll have 2 (TWO) tuner free. So you can record 2 program simultaneously. Neat right?

Again, While watching your pre-recorded content you will free up you tuner. Sice PVR have 2 tuners, you can use it to record 2 program while watching a pre recorded content.

The glitch is due to software bugs that is still plaguing B.yond with Ext HDD setups. The bugs of which has been squashed in the PVR software will hopefully be implemented in B.yond with Ext HDD setups later in the next few weeks.

We will have new Malay not permanent channel....introducing, MUSTIKA BARKER....this is not rumours, got info abt this...please visit blog for full update...so, this raya we will have 3 temporary channel starting 9 september...hehe

While 960x1080 is the effective resolution for Astro, I disagree that it "doesn't look real". I've seen demos of live action footage featuring macaques and they look exceptional.

I do prefer the passive glasses since they are lighter but so far you can only use them with the LG CF3D.

Seriously? We can't even get 4K off the ground and you're already asking for UltraHD.

Those films are shot in 35mm. The effective resolution of 35mm is 4K, twice the resolution of HD.

The reason why they picked those two movies is probably due to its popularity and the availability of the HD master.

Eventually and hopefully, the P. Ramlee films can be restored in 4K with scratches fixed. From there, maybe it can have a limited theatrical run before being released on BD.

after considering (price of WD quite close to Astro PVR), tempted to get PVR.....but the RM 10 per month is the killer. long term it adds up.

Dilemma. especially, astro did put in their website an upcoming feature to record all episodes of a series....so that won't miss an episode.

i am currently using DVD recorder...but the recordings are SD...so defeats the purpose.

I have both PVR in teh living room and B.yond Box in the Bedroom.

Since I have a Sony handycam, I have the WD My Passport AV from the beginning. Now I'm using it exclusively for B.yond Box in my Bedroom.

Epsode recording is called Series Link. It's not 100% working yet. I tried and it recorded even teh repeats! Confirmed with Astro they said it's not ready. Announcement will be made once it's ready. So use them at your discretion...I actually have to manually delete sooo many repeat programs...

Yup...Apparently only certain channels are ready and most are not yet ready. Which channels are ready though...Only Astro knows.

To make a useful EPG, Astro must demand that their content providers provide useful EPG data. Season, episode and episode synopsis are important data that must be there. That way we can view if the program is new or something we've seen before. The EPG can also be embeded in the recorded program so that the seasons can be browsed through rapidly by PVR users.

What's also rather shameful is that PVR's failures recently. Losing recorded programs randomly should not have happened at all. Considering that the recording function supposedly have been tested before launch (especially the WD external drive issue), this incident should not happen again.
