QUOTE(Lord_Ashe @ Aug 17 2010, 09:10 AM) I suppose I'll have to do this also. I've run out of plug points to support another router and my wife will kill me if I have too many wires going around the living room. It already looks like a holy mess. During my installation yesterday I asked the techs about the router durability - they admitted that it fails VERY OFTEN, and they have highlighted to the management but other than that they're just salaried workers who have to do as their told. No worries, just smash the router 1-2month b4 the warranty expires & claim the new one. I doubt they will still be using this problem router after 1 year. Think about how many routers they gonna keep replacing if they still using this broken one for the next 12months. |

QUOTE(klseet @ Aug 17 2010, 12:39 PM) smash the router No, the warranty stays with the Registration date. Something still wonders me that why the heck they give 1 year warranty in a 2 years contract. Mind to share how? Anywhere, does the 1 year warranty start from the replacement date or still stick to the registration date? If start from the replacement date, I'm pretty sure we'll "make it" life-time warranty liao..... So I guess even I didnt really smash the router I will just send back to TMpoint. Lie about it spoil already to get the "Stable" one. With the quality of DIR-615 now, i am quite worried that Tmnet will rip me off after 1 year. Might as well send to RMA b4 warranty to get stable version. Get ready to abuse your DIR-615 then! This post has been edited by billytong: Aug 17 2010, 01:55 PM |

QUOTE(calvin92 @ Aug 17 2010, 02:49 PM) My 3rd router now and this 1 seems good for over a week no crash nothing. working like what i expect it to. i just hope it be like this for a long long time. To be honest, most of us here would prefer TM to "upgrade" the cap than the speed. 5mbps is enough for me, cap is the issue need to be upgrade if Tm really want to upgrade unifi service 1 more thing i have a feeling TM will come out with new package of unifi maybe few more month or a year with higher speed since the system can support alot more speed then 20Mb. also the 5mb might be replaced by 10 at the same price. just like block buster deal in comparison to 1mb 88 streamyx. TM wants as many people on fiber as possible as the spend the money to build the system |

110e is probably best bang of buck now. the extra money for the plugpoint is not worth, might as well get ur extension.

QUOTE(pr0di9y @ Aug 19 2010, 02:44 PM) I believe there are more reading need to be done on your side 1st before we can even help to explain on what is suppose to be done. The Wikipedia should have all the basic read up on what is a router and it's purpose in the network environment as well as other devices which are being discuss over this thread. wait, i do not have the device or Unifi yet. (*still waiting them, 1 week already, 1 more week to go) So I have noidea about how to play those toys yet for now.I would say that most of the guides which was given by rizvanrp, me and others are well understandable with some moderate experience with network terminology or at least know how to setup a basic default factory firmware router around in our current Malaysia IT hardware retail market. So up until now it is not possible for us to connect conventionally from regular router to BTU just for internet only? we still have to use your pppoE style with NAT issue once a while? |

QUOTE(klseet @ Aug 23 2010, 06:56 PM) I'm just thinking, will the result improve if I just hook up both my router & IPTV directly to RB250GS and just maintain 1 single connection to Huawei BTU? yeah I think most of us would really want to know this setup. Waiting for your good news. Huawei BTU[LAN1]----> [LAN5]RB250GS[LAN3] ----> Router(without tagging) ......................................................[LAN4] ----> IPTV STB |

QUOTE(akerue @ Aug 24 2010, 11:09 AM) So, if I purchase the RB750, does it mean that I still can do what you have written, and can do it without additional router? i.e. RB750 = RB250 GS + Router? Well you need to check whether the router can do both Vlan tagging 500,600 at the same time on 2 of the ports it has or not. If it can it will probably will work exactly like ur DIR-615.Been over 1 week since I applied Unifi and started read this thread, then only to found out that I joined Unifi group at the wrong time. The reason I didnt really push TM to install unifi for me because I hope that they fix the router issue b4 fixing my unifi connection. But i doubt they got the capability. QUOTE(DT8 @ Aug 24 2010, 03:14 PM) I just called to subscribe. After reading 64 pages, my eyes are blur and worrying due to the DIR-615 frying issue. Dont worry it wont catch fire and burn ur house QUOTE(kencul @ Aug 24 2010, 12:56 PM) When users mentioned DIR165 malfunction or burn, does it mean it catches fire or just stop functioning, as could'nt monitor the unit 24/7. Just would like to know in case the unthinkable happens. Thanks Best quote for the whole thread! This post has been edited by billytong: Aug 24 2010, 03:30 PM |

QUOTE(vergas @ Aug 25 2010, 09:49 AM) Isn't this also means that you can also use DIR-615 flashed with DD-WRT firmware as the router for the computers/wifi? Since DIR-615 issue most probably due to TM's firmware. So for person who do not have an existing custom router would only have to buy RB250GS, and just flashed the TM's DIR-615 with DD-WRT? Logically should work, since DIR-615 is just another router. But somehow.... TM version of 615 are really special in terms of reliability issue. |

IP TV will not work if u plug into router because if u follow rizvan's guide, the router will only receive internet data not the IPTV it is on diff vlan tagging.
I htink you need another unit or 2 Homeplug and point it to the IPTV vlan port on that RB250GS. Not sure how multiple homeplugs work, as I have no experience on this. |

QUOTE(D3vilsim @ Aug 25 2010, 02:38 PM) Hmm.. i guess can't work on 2 homeplug 1 aptv 1 normal internet. Leave the BTU and the DIR-615(as bridge as Rizvan's guide shows) or RB250GS in living hall, then use home plug connect RB250GS to your own router(at ur room), wired LAN to ur PC or use wireless on ur laptop. This is the usual setup assuming ur TV is @ living room, as probably I am going to setup this kind of setup too.think the only solutions for me is leave everything in living hall. Use homeplug for IPTV & wifi for internet access. Router in living hall laptop in bed room hope wont' affect much on the internet speed. thanks all for answering & if have better solution pls advise yah... =) Otherwise if want ur TV in ur room, u probably need to go wireless on ur PCs and home plug ur IPTV STB to the RB250GS in living hall This post has been edited by billytong: Aug 25 2010, 02:48 PM |

QUOTE(D3vilsim @ Aug 25 2010, 02:51 PM) thanks. Yah will follow rizyan's guide if can't get RB250GS. But how about IPTV in the room ?? Homeplug is just a lan port extension. You could try that setup.arr... headache oreomambo, if that one can work then would be great. so i need to do some different setting on the RB250GS ? QUOTE(auronthas @ Aug 26 2010, 02:08 PM) Thx riz for your prompt reply, that what I thought. Any recommended IP router which is cheap and reliable, such as Linksys ? Any router will work, since u mentioned Linksys, may be it is a good idea.I am planning to go to Lowyat to purchase: - a) Homeplugs - estimated RM120+ each b) IP router - ?RM Any other equipment do I need to purchase for the complete setup? Thanks again. As for my I try not to buy routers, I got like almost 10 routers & switches, modem in on my side. Noway I gonna spend money to add more junk. |

QUOTE(auronthas @ Aug 26 2010, 05:14 PM) Thanks, hmm, how reliable is RB250GS, has anyone use more than months ? If it's really good, I am interested to get one too. Have you registered in the list? no one will know, every single one of us are genie pig, we are the white mice of the future Unifi user. Thats the penalty of being early subscriber. I wont be surprised that TM will come out any sort of "combo" package in another 2 years. |
