Between desire and galaxy s.. the obvious choice is galaxy s. maxis and digi also selling galaxy s. think digi is cheaper in terms of monthly cost. smile.gif

Lowest maxis plan is RM50 (value50) + RM58 (500Mb data) - RM10(rebate) = RM98
Phone price is RM1699 (1 year contract)

Well, whether you can afford the RM98 per month is entirely your say. You have to consider well. Otherwise you buy the phone from senheng and pay installment. DHD is a good phone, but you won't be getting anything lower than that with SGS either. smile.gif

Do you calls your family often? Who is the main line in your family? You can still maintain family line by parking all other lines under your line, if the other lines in your family has no contract... you decide.

Not if u wanna buy the phone on package...

But i think u're able to attach RM58 to ur supplimentary line (family line) if u buy the phone outside la...

From my view, unless I really call my families everyday at least 30 minutes per day... Otherwise, I dun think family lines are really worth while... It's more worth if bf/gf call each other / sms very frequently... Otherwise, I doubt u'll SMS ur mom/dad 10sms per day or so laugh.gif

So the "sacrifice" that you mention here is not really valid... Of course, u need to fork out money for ur own line now instead lah blush.gif

BTW, DiGi call to other telco also same rate...

Added on December 30, 2010, 12:57 pmBTW, I wanna ask sifu here... Am planning to Up to Android...
Budget <1k but flexible if can justify the up in features etc but need to save more for it lo...

What I wanna use it for? Calls, SMS, lite GPS, lite gaming, Internet of course la what era edi smile.gif , Camera for photos (not too particular but something 5 or more mpx) , software upgradability is a plus ie froyo/gingerman

Looked @
- Spice MI300
- LG Optimus One (My LG KC910 juz failed me so not very interested)
- X10i (4" seems a little bulky)
- Moto Defy (3.7" seems comfy but speaker issue not convincing)
- SGS (Nice display, plenty of Custom ROMS, but $$$ even rm1.7k on maxis)
- HTC Desire

Pls throw me some ideas and discussions~ More than welcome!
Thx everyone!

Between your selection, SGS is the best but out of your budget. At your budget LG Optimus One is the most sensible choice, somemore can upgrade to gingerbread later. If LG is a NO for you, then x10i seems probable. Anyway, you check out the phones first before deciding.

Am seriously considering this one... Checked out the ROM compatibility with Z71s and it's amazing... Never knew the connection until I visited the MI300 thread drool.gif

How about the reliability? RAM sufficient for games etc? (Angry Bird , coz my GF's Mini Pro got lag on higher lvl...)

Long tedious process to follow news and forum threads cool2.gif

The upgrades, are "promised" but not necessary following the actual timeline by manufacturers... Whereas for developers... It's hoping that they can get things working soon... But it's not "promised" by anyone but rather a collective community doing the developments of custom ROMS for the OS update/upgrade...

Right now, Froyo (2.2) should be the "norm" but alot of manufacturers: SE, Moto are still on Eclair (2.1), Some are even Donut 1.6 or Cupcake 1.5 but those getting obsolete...

Whereas Google released Gingerbread (2.3) and Honeycomb (2.4/3.0) is rumoured to coming to CES 2011 / MWC 2011 in tablet forms...

HTC working on going up the ladder for OS and samsung (since they're the manufacturer for Nexus S) is trying to move into 2.3 Gingerbread... (Rmbr, "promised" but not necessary following "promised" timeline...) whistling.gif

I am not really sure about other phones. My advice is if possible go for 1GHz CPU processor and at least 512Mb RAM. This will ensure your phone is smooth for all kind of games and apps out there.

Also your ROM preferably (not necessary) at least 1Gb otherwise you have limitations on the number of apps to install. Just check out there many desire users complain about lack of ROM, coz they only have 512Mb. SDcard expansion slot is necessary if ROM is small size.

As for Android, 2.2 is preferred. It will be a bonus if can upgrade to 2.3 later on.

Despite the above, I believe the determining part is still your budget. Go for the top range Android phone like SGS if can, otherwise go for the closest possible to the specs that I've written above.

Happy hunting!

Happy new year to all, kinda noob to android phone.
so would like to seek advice here
currently using nokia 5800, a good basic touch screen phone, but doesnt have the means to become a good travel companion (i need more useful app when i go travel, better reliability, better surfing device)

here's my requirement
---------------------------
- stable, reliable, good surfing experience (not like my 5800 which lags when i open few tab when surfing and show me Memory not enough)
- to view document, picture, offline maps, travel info (i m more like a backpacker and travel light, so prefer something that i can refer to)
- apps, plenty of useful travel apps. (not so related as android market will fit my needs)

i understand that battery life might be an issue when i go travel, i m prepare to get an extra mobile charger to charge it on the go. mostly will bring a garmin gps device with me (cant afford the data rate for google online map) when abroad.

kinda torn between getting a cheaper android tablet for travel or getting a better spec android phone brows.gif

Pls help to recommend me... notworthy.gif

the rest should be alright since this is a budget travel companion

AP/ORI Desire. No other phone has that amount of speed or battery life in that price range. Galaxy S is a no-no for the lag issue.

For the Tablet i'm not sure. Maybe Nook Colour or any other tablets will be okay. For the phone, i recommend you go for the Nexus S thats gonna be available soon for around 1.7-2.4k depending on when you wanna get it because it has a front camera like the Galaxy S and also the camera has flash unlike its Samsung counterpart. Vanilla UI is also a core selling point for this phone without any sort of lag and a smooth browsing experience which is a contender, if not superior to the iPhone 4.

Hey, I'm unsure whether to get an SE x10 or HTC desire. AP sets for the x10 is a few hundred ringgit cheaper than the desire but other than the screen, it seems desire trumps it in every other department.

Do you guys think the extra cost is worth it over the better UI, more RAM and more polished user experience?
