you need a software to track the usage. without a software, there's no way to know the total data volume comes in and goes out.

other ways are via SMS or USSD: http://www.u.com.my/faqs/u-broadband-prepaid

How is U Mobile's 3G Coverage compared to DiGi? DiGi seems sucky, always fluctuates between 3G and EDGE in many areas.

Interested in porting to U Mobile for its internet plan. 10/20 bucks a month for light surfing seems nice. Though I'm afraid that they do not warn you when you reach near the max and then they simply charge you. sweat.gif

How's U Mobile's phone coverage?
*
same thing for me at home. Digi's map shows full broadband/3G. but actual coverage is very bad (switching between 3G and mostly EDGE). i wouldnt pay for this service.

tried p1. even worse. always unable to connect.

tried maxis. sub-par, worse than digi's lowest speed.

finally tried, umobile broadband, and never turn back thumbup.gif

it seems that umobile's broadband excels when other sucks biggrin.gif weird, but true. not just my home, but other areas too.

if u get UB10/20 plans, there is SMS notification: threshold at 30MB and 0MB. Be sure to regularly check any incoming SMS! <-- most ppl got extra charges without knowing because they didn't check the incoming SMS.

max. cap is at RM176, which is about UB68 plan x 2 (max)

phone coverage is "nationwide": 3G mode in umobile's own 3G coverage (owned exclusively). Once outside of the 3G coverage, it will swtich to 2G-mode (ala roaming) under Celcom's infrastructure. roaming only provide you basic service -- voice and SMS. no data services, but it will be changed later this year (source: http://www.u.com.my/media-room/press-relea...d-dr-agreement)

guys. i looking for a data plan for my phone. i not mind the speed and quata. the most imporatant is unlimited to connect. after exceed the quata also is free. and i very very few to make call and sms.
so which package i should take?
thanks for advice
*
get the prepaid starter pack + subscribe UB68 plan (unlimited quota without extra charges).

if UB68 plan is too high, get UB10 to UB40, with quota but you will be notifiied via SMS once you reach 30MB (1st warning) and 0MB (end-of-quota warning) threshold.

if its Huawei, it will be compatible wif my Aztech HW550 3G router
*
originally, the press release mentioned Huawei or ZTE models. now, it seems to be removed (the model).

so ub20 will cost price after exceed the 300mb?
*
PAYU rate of RM0.01/KB.

if somehow you really overused 300MB without knowing, the max. chargeable is RM176.

i guess you are safe to use on the phone as you will defnitely get the SMS alert.

most ppl use it on 3G modem dongle + normal windows dialer: they will sure missed the SMS notification.

it would be safe to use the dashboard software while connecting: you get to know the data usage + SMS alert.

i using phone. so will get the sms alert. i think take the ub40 will more safe. i feel wont go till 2gb for normal usage.
if no call no sms. i just need to pay RM40 per month for the ub40 package?
*
if you get the prepaid starter pack, subscription/purchase is prepaid-mode too.

meaning, you must have enough credit before subscribing the UB40 plan (i.e. RM40 credit at least).

new starter pack is RM8 but comes with RM5 airtime credit.

so, topup to about RM40 to just enough subscribe UB40 plan.

also, current prepaid has 3 Times Validity Period: if you topup RM30, you get 3x30 days = 90 days validity (~3 mths).

maximum validity is 300 days (i.e. topup RM100 = 3x100 days).

UB40 cant use sms either or call.
*
only if you get data-only SIM.

i posted this previously:

QUOTE

(handphone image)

prepaid = prepaid voice plan + ubroadband tag-on <-- prepaid credit must be enough to subscribe each plan
postpaid = postpaid voice plan + ubroadband tag-on <-- each plan's price will be calculated together with voice during bill cycle (voice + data)

laptop (image) = ubroadband data-only (no voice call functionality) <-- similar to postpaid but without voice. u will get the monthly bills for data-usage

prepaid/postpaid + ubroadband can be used on 3G modem too, but i think it's more targeted for mobile devices usage (phone).

laptop data-only sim is more of full-time broadband using 3G modem (for those who dont need voice plans).

nothing much can be done as these p2p/pps highly dependent on your upload speed.

also, umobile is hsdpa (3.6mbps) only.

best usage is ddl (direct download).

I guess U-Mobile is using Celcom bases for all its services. When I put the SIM card into my mobile phone it show 'My Celcom'. I'm at Wangsa Maju area and is covered by U-Mobile Broadband and 3G coverage.

force your phone to use 3G mode.

What it means when I get Celcom instead of U Mobile? and when I wanna connect it says I'm in Roaming so will be charged extra?
*
u get "celcom" network name when u r roaming (outside of umobile's 3g coverage). the only usable service is voice/sms. you cannot connect to broadband/data at all (so no extra charge possible).

data services while roaming is coming later this year. source: http://www.u.com.my/media-room/press-relea...ed-dr-agreement (4th paragraph, last sentence)
