now all the smartphone manufacturers are having cpu speed war...1GHz....1.5GHz.....dualcore....ever wonder do we really need these kind of computing speed for a smartphone? or it's just to attract the consumers with their spec. they may even match the speed of desktop computer in some point of time near future...

try this, you dont have to be root.

'browser -f --view box'

close the browser first then try this,

'browser -f --view tab'

then try this....

'browser -f --view win'

someone found it... you can also google it.

yeah, meego is linux allrite. but its becoming a castrated version, like android. actually iOS has linux roots as well, just steve dont want to tell...

all mobile versions of linux based OSes are crippled, meaning they take out parts of linux that is not necessary, just the core is linux (kernel) and they use loads of other rubbish and a GUI is thrown on top of it.

maemo is full blown linux, exactly like desktop, meaning they dont try to cripple it.

but the downside is, battery life sucks because maemo behaves like its installed on a desktop or laptop.

Added on August 25, 2010, 10:37 amthats why i am not putting meego crap on my n900. it looks too much android-ish.

unless the flash 10 on meego works really smooth on n900... damn...

but then still, i dont want webkit browser... meego is going to use webkit browser, ala nokia n97, 5800 and even iPhone uses webkit...

webkit kinda sucks when you are used to microB...

Apparently, there should be a new firmware on week 35.
You can google PE1.0
Now sure why they call it PE1.0 instead of PR1.3?

Guess what? This news is leaked from Chinese website; Supposedly the team is now passed down to China company? They seems to have a lot of information on this, as well as many upcoming Nokia phones. They have more information than those people in talk.maemo forum. It was also them who leak the news in talk.maemo forum....
Even the N9 and C7 information.... was leak from chinese site/forums...

try this

Kernel Tweaking - linux swap usage

'sudo gainroot'
cd /etc/init.d/

open rcS in leafpad or any text editor
scroll all the way down until you see

'echo 100 > /proc/sys/vm/swappiness'

change it to

'echo 0 > /proc/sys/vm/swappiness'

then add these few lines directly below it

'echo 0 > /proc/sys/vm/dirty_expire_centisecs'
'echo 0 > /proc/sys/vm/dirty_writeback_centisecs'
'echo 60 > /proc/sys/vm/dirty_background_ratio'
'echo 95 > /proc/sys/vm/dirty_ratio'

Changes implemented with these values -

- most importantly, battery life will get slightly better, but for some users you might not see any difference. most programs will stay in RAM when launched and only use swap when necessary.

- secondly you will see some tasks will become faster since eMMC is rarely accessed for swap and this will free up I/O for other tasks. (e.g. playing MP3, video is smoother)

- it will reduce virtual memory usage (linux swap) to a minimum and only use it when absolutely needed, memory full.

- if you multitask like crazy then there will be slight delay when memory pages are moved between the eMMC and RAM. this is normal

PS :

note 1- please record down all original values and changes that you made

note 2 - you need to reboot to see the changes

note 3 - you can revert back to original setting by editing the same file and using the original values, so write down the original values someplace before editing

note 4 - you also might want to back up the original file in case you are scared that you might screw it up

its really hard to say when, but nokia surely working on something for the n900 to keep us quiet and begging for more. they wont abandon n900 completely but just give dumb updates that has no major changes - to keep it in their shadow so that we will buy N9 or whatever comes next.

you can see most n900 buyers from overseas are already owners of n800 or n810 or the older n770.

like i said i dont see much changes coming, they are busy playing with the new babies meego and symbian^3 and the future symbian^4.

for example, flash 10 is NEVER coming to N900, thats what nokia said... because they are concentrating on meego and flash 10 for meego because intel is pushing them to meet deadlines... since its a joint-effort with intel.

meanwhile, here is something to cheer you guys up...
