If it's iPhone lover, then no point you show them comparison; they will deny everything. The say LOVE is blind.

Anyway, in terms of smartphone, no need to use N900, no need to be so generous, it's way too powerful, any smartphone also is better than iPhone, even my old Nokia 6600 is more powerful.
But in terms of gaming/entertainment and graphics, I believe no smartphone/phone can beat iPhone.
In short, both are different species, iPhone does not fit in the category of smartphone, their smartness is not the computer-like smart, it's smart for dumb users; it's so easy, simple and straightforward that almost anybody can use it. But in terms of power and features, flexibility, it basically looses to ANY smartphones out there.

Many people who don't know much about technology or smartphone always think iPhone is the best, because it is popular and something everybody wants; It's like fashion, brand is important. So, iPhone is like branded handbags. They're paying mostly for the word "Apple". Each alphabet cost a lot, don't pray pray. Oh, forgot about the Apple logo, that one is veli expensive.

Anyway, due to this popularity, any new phone comes up, sure people will compare it with the iPhone, it's the only thing they know, too bad.

I guess the best way to describe them is from the below video:

guys, are there any apps available for MSN, yahoo messenger, twitter, foursquare and etc for n900? unsure.gif
i know garmin not available for maemo5~ sad.gif
*
There are, but you won't need it, as I have mentioned previously, the contact/address book has integration with IM.
When you add a new contact, you can add his/her Facebook Chat account, MSN, Skype, etc.
Actually, you don't need to manually add, when you set your IM, it will retrieve all your contacts automatically.

How to Chat? Everything is inside Conversations. This is where you do your SMS and also Instant Messaging Chat.

This is something new and nice concept, social integration. I believe this is what Microsoft saw and decided to do a make-over on their Windows Mobile OS. In the ads, they specifically mentioned, they're emphasizing on "Social", which is what N900 has already done. icon_rolleyes.gif

now i am undecided~  sweat.gif

Yup, previously I have mentioned that Nokia has long abondon the ship, everything is up to the community.

Problem is, many people don't know where to find the software and app, and have little knowledge about smartphone and they claim the N900 is not powerful. Maybe those people are looking for great camera, so if camera not good = not powerful. Or some people looking for multi-touch, so no multi-touch = not powerful, or apps, etc. They totally get the wrong meaning of powerful.

i may not be as geeky like u guys here on this n900~ but i am an engineer graduate~ just that~ i have stop into gadgets for sometime so a bit blur on maemo5~ blush.gif so i hope i pickup the right mobile device to start picking things up again~

You can always check YouTube for walkthrough guide on the phone OS and features, how it look like, etc. When I want to buy the N900, it was not even available in Malaysia yet, not even AP set. Some people bring it in and selling for > RM3K... I check out everything from YouTube, how the OS look like, how the messaging look like, etc. I got hooked because it's totally different from any smartphone out there, it's outstanding, nothing can come close.
When some companies start it bring it in, it's still around RM2.4K ~ RM 2.6K, and not long after, lowyat.net AP seller start selling around RM2.2K.

I guess you can check out this review, which will tell you the pros and cons, and finally the end about the powerful features of the phone. It also mentioned about the type of users that is not suitable to use this phone:

QUOTE(Gouki @ Jul 22 2010, 02:06 PM)
glad to hear that~ thats my purpose of having a secondary mobile device for 3G mobile internet~ phone calls will still be on my n86 on maxis line~
after i read up some review~ the n900 looks good for mobile internet~ but my concern~ how is the n900 future support? flash 10.1? and etc? blush.gif

Added on July 22, 2010, 2:07 pm
bro~ u repost twice~ i dont quite get what you trying to show~ i dont see the 3rd party apps or chinese typing in the printscreen~ sweat.gif
*
As per previous mentioned, Nokia has abandon the ship, there may be updates, but might take long time and mostly probably bug fixing? They're concentrating on MeeGo now, Maemo is their sort of testing ground.
Might as well check out the community which they really have done A LOT and provide many missing features, customization to the OS. There're so many things that you will NOT find in any smartphones today, this is a tablet (in short, think about a NOTEBOOK with TOUCHSCREEN, shrink down to the size of a handphone).

No news about Flash 10; Nokia is being very cunning and confidential, they don't allow Adobe to give out any information and they themselves also don't want to say anything. But from the supported list, they mention Symbian and MeeGo, no mentioned of Maemo...

By default N900 can support Chinese test, you can read Chinese. For Chinese input, there is 3rd party apps for it. It was launch in HK by the way, so it has to have Chinese support.
If you check out the launching in HK and other country (go google or YouTube), you will see their country's Nokia is FAR FAR better than ours, see how they promote and how much they understand the product.

yeah, and for now only RM1.3k for the AP set~ i am so tempted to get one by this weekend~ no other phone come this close even those price more than 2k~

but after watching this review ---->http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7qzalgFTAU

so it doesnt support google map or even Garmin mobileXT~ hmmmm~ what about standalone MSN apps? or ported version of MSN from PC? i prefer that~ tongue.gif
*
So far, no good GPS app for Malaysia. There's Sygic but the mao is very dated. Since this is your 2nd phone, I think the GPS may not be one of the important thing for you since you can have alternatives on your 1st phone?

Fir standalone MSN app, there's aMSN which is Desktop version, but it takes up a lot of resources. There's other 3rd party app which allows you to connect to other IM accounts.
I can tell you straight that you might be better off forget about 3rd party app. Just use the Conversations, it's so much easier, no need to purposely open the program, then click sign in. Then need to switch around, etc.
With the built-in conversations, when you're online, all your accounts can be online and you can see your friend's status in your contact book, it's a lot better really.
Besides, you can place Contacts on your desktop, then you can see their IM status as well. No need to purposely start an app, sign in, and check through one by one.

You can also read the review from ShaolinTiger, very well written, as below he posted:

QUOTE(ShaolinTiger @ Jul 22 2010, 02:20 PM)
Have published my review of the N900 after using it for a while:

I got it day of launch in Malaysia March 26th.

new user here, change from N97 to N900.
hav question, when i wanna sign in IM, ( had instal MSN (Pecan)),
however i cant connect my msn thru wifi,
show msg " avaibility must be online to perform this action".
What's wrong? is it sign in thru conversation?
And had application for mobile facebook?
SInce at N97 it show at screen and can shoot pic upload thru
facebook, but N900 seems cant, or i do wrong way?
thanks for help
*
Make sure the WiFi has Internet access. If confirm have, make sure your N900 is connected successfully to the Wifi and able to obtain IP address. If able to obtain IP Address, need to make sure the DNS server is obtain successfully.

To put it simple, after you confirm you have connected to the WiFi, try to go to google website, if not able to load, means there is no internet access or fail to obtain access.

You want to upload picture to facebook? If you're using latest firmware PR1.2, it's built in.
Firstly, you need to add the account in the Settings-->Sharing accounts.
When viewing the picture, there is a SHARE service, click on it and you can share via Email, Bluetooth, and Service. From the Service, you can select the accounts which you have set.
By doing this way, you can even upload videos, etc.

QUOTE(umang2 @ Jul 23 2010, 04:15 PM)
so how often did U format ur PC/laptop?

for me , 1 yr ++ then i format,

If this n900 need to be format every couple of months, that so inconvenient i think....
*
If depends on the user and how you use.
I for one, hates format, so I hardly format my PC, I think already many years I never format. The most also I do restore or reinstall, never format as I hate to do backup of all the files in the hard drive, etc.

If there is problem, it depends whether you know how to fix, e.g. cleaning spywares, virus, etc. The easy way of course is format. I opt for manual cleaning.

In short, it depends on the user, how you use it, what you install, etc.
I didn't format my N900, only update the firmware.

When there is lag, usually you just need to restart your PC or device so that the memory is released. When the virtual/swap memory is used, it will cause lag/performance issue. Most of the time, it is due to this and a restart will do the job for you.

the difference between n97 and n900 is n97 need an app to access facebook to use its application when n900 u can direct access www.facebook.com . If u want to use the full facebook website u need download userhideagent from app manager. Then use firefox string and facebook website will detect your n900 as a browser
*
Actually no need userhideagent also can, simply edit your bookmark back to http://www.facebook.com/home.php

LoL! Anyway, it's just plain stupid for Apple to deny and "get away" with all the cheap tricks, moreover signal calculation, etc. blaming the software, etc. If there is problem with iOS4, then any models using the iOS4 (e.g. 3GS, 3G) will suffer the same problems already.

Oh, now I wonder, why Apple don't use their own 2G, 3G and 3GS for their grip test instead of using others?

Nokia said it is up to adobe to release it or not? Well user base of Maemo too little, its up to adobe though
*
Nope, it's up to Nokia. Nokia is very secretive and strict. They don't allow Adobe to give out any words at all. You can visit Adobe forum, there're maemo-talk forum members asking Adobe about it, but they're not allow to give out any information.

Well, that's Nokia alright, as happen with PR1.2 release date... but MeeGo is totally different story, everything is crystal clear with timeline and everything is according to plan, probably because of Intel? I find MeeGo have many similarities to Moblin instead of Maemo.

Now the bad news. Flash 10.1 was announce release on several mobile OS; For Nokia, Symbian and MeeGo is mentioned, but NO MENTION ABOUT MAEMO! WHY? Even Symbian will get it.

but i got want problem~ after i install the Extra IM plugins~ i cant open my Conversation anymore~ it goes "Internal error. Application Conversation closed." Any idea? any other standalone apps for IM that dont need intergration into Conversations and Contacts? blush.gif
*
Which plugin you install?

For third party, I think there is Fring, Pidgin, etc. Not really sure how many are there since I didn't use those 3rd party ones. Previously there is few members using 3rd party app, but have since switch to integrated ones.

This is because of Taiwanese law.

YouTube and Facebook will eat up your memory. If you open websites, it will consume memory especially those with Flash content.

Go YouTube watch those people demo multi-tasking stress test...

It says flash player needed.. Then it prompted me to go Flash Player 10.. But which 1 to choose?

N900 doesn't have Flash 10... so you can't play games/videos which requires Flash 10.

Did you check your virtual/swap memory usage when the problem happens? Try to open Conky or HTOP and see the "Swap Usage", check also the CPU and RAM usage. Try to monitor and report here the status.
From Conky, you can see at the bottom the Process name with CPU and MEM usage.
If you're using HTOP, you can see more and you can order by the highest usage for each column by touching it.

Did you read my previous reply? Try to check the swap usage, which usually will cause these lagging problem.

As for why happen on night, probably there's some app or process that triggered to run at this time. Did you install any time-activated profile or something?
Try to monitor in htop which process is running with high memory/cpu usage.

Care to explain why?

Doing that, if your TV volume is set above certain level, you will hear distortion? or dub sound.

So, I usually turn off the TV first or lower volume on the TV first.

Yup. Your swap usage is a lot lower than mine, LoL!
My average swap usage is about 10% more than yours. When it gets higher, it will start to have lag problems.
My ram usage usually around 150MB or slightly higher.

Guess need to check what process is running which is shown at the bottom of Conky.
