QUOTE(Eiraku @ Jul 25 2010, 04:32 AM) Considering that Maemo's the only real desktop grade OS on a phone, I don't think I'm really going anywhere. So look like this phone is good to purchase eh ? Because there only 1 thing I worried about this phone that is the OS since from the previous thread I saw alot of post mentioning that Nokia been abandon this which make me kinda worry about like no updates so which mean if Meego is better you might switch to the OS with the N900 hm ? Because I readed shaolin tiger blog about the N900 and he said that we could transform to another OS or switch whatever that is fully with the N900 Also, my new Shiichi-Tan (the 71) fills up much of the N900's failings as a phone, so no worries there. Unless of course, Meego turns out to be better. Maemo has been in the state of semi-abandonment ever since the 770 NIT days to begin with, and the community did fine nonetheless. |

Do you think nokia will just abandon it? That action will cause alot of ppl think twice about getting nokia in future and it will effect their sales badly. So definately they will come out updates until the OS stable. The question is when?

QUOTE(tabletennis @ Jul 25 2010, 11:39 AM) Optimize your Nokia N900 its a script to restart all the running processes in the background, it *might* reset your widget arrangement on the desktop. so if you have done precision work on your desktop design, i suggest you look into the script to maybe disable some hildon related sections. STEPS : 1。place and extract the file to /home/user/MyDocs/ 2。then just run x-term. type root (or sudo gainroot) 3。type "cd /home/user/MyDocs/" in x terminal 4。and finally type "sh OptimizeN900" otherwise this script is very good if you are the type of person who doesn't restart your n900 everyday. those who restart once or twice a day don't have to run this unless you really multitask the hell out of your n900... its better to make it a habit to restart in every time you hook it up to a charger. this way your n900 is always fresh with no swap usage. And then there's the issue of data corruption and subsequent dying of the eMMC due to rebooting at the wrong time (while stuff is BEING swapped or vice versa), though in my case it could have been made worse by voltage being set too low. otherwise this script is very good if you are the type of person who doesn't restart your n900 everyday. those who restart once or twice a day don't have to run this unless you really multitask the hell out of your n900... its better to make it a habit to restart in every time you hook it up to a charger. this way your n900 is always fresh with no swap usage. But there was no real warning of impending doom too, which was very disconcerting... *sigh*. Now bringing my Nanai-Tan up to speed for the long 2 week long wait for her sister, there's a lot to install before she can become a fully fledged backup unit. And as a bonus, I get my beloved Garmin back! Thankfully, while she can never be a real replacement for what I consider as the best internet consumption device on the planet (our N900s), the seven one is a great smart"phone" that performs exceptionally well even after all these years. A shame nobody thought of giving her a touch screen, it would have been a fine Treo killer. And the qwerty prediction is phenomenal, to say the least (something even the N900 could learn from). Battery life's crazy long too. No wonder she's one of Nokia's best selling phones. I was too caught up in the touchscreen wars to even give her any consideration back then, but she's a fine workhorse companion to her high performance sister that's for sure. |

U cant mark the pictures unlike N97. |

QUOTE(jalanbesi @ Jul 25 2010, 08:24 PM) ic, so basicaly it would play normal/dvdrip movie smoothly or will it lag? If not mistaken is FreOffice~i'm planning to use n900 to replace my notebook when i'm on the go/at ship, so no need to bring heavy notebook anymore. btw, i was asking about 720p coz most movie i had is in 720p. and can tell me what the free app name to edit doc/xls file? also, how does n900 perform compare to n97? in term of usage, battery life. thx Basically those 700mb movie, 350mb english series could be watched without any problem, but I cant fast forward the movie though. But so far I've been watching them through wifi where they are shared in my desktop and I just watch directly from my phone through wifi and certain video can fast forward certain cant. Codec limitation i guess. Usage wise, I love the 50-60fps of kinetic scrolling in Music player and photo gallery in N97 compared to N900 because N900 scrolling rate is low. I am sure this can be fixed through firmware update, its up to nokia to do this or not. Because 5800 and N97 having identical hardware and N97 photo gallery scrolling is way smoother than 5800. Battery life wise, N97 battery life is good if not best. So far it could last me a few days for normal use. Which include calls, sms, wifi (minor usage). Standby could last 4-5 days if not using at all. N900 I am charging it once or twice per day. Battery capacity is lesser than N97. The bad thing is the battery life and standby could last me around 1-2 days I guess. Just got the phone for 1 week. Performance, I would say I am getting very very bored with Symbian. Compared to 6 years back when most of the phone out there are normal phone without any OS and having symbian is great, powerful, can multitask, go on msn through GPRS, installing software etc. But symbian/nokia is too comfortable with their lead in the industry and minor changes has been made in their OS. Not only that, windows OS is the same too after defeating PALM OS years back. Iphone and android is catching up and winmo/symbian doesn't seem to bother especially after the success of N95. Now iphone and android is dominating and nokia's revenue has dropped 30% recently if not mistaken. Now microsoft working on winmo7 and symbian with their ^3 and I am pretty sure they are going to have some hard time catching up. Now having N900 is like having a smartphone 5-6 years back. Same feeling of the powerfulnessssss lol. Simply just pwn the other smartphone out there. Besides most of the smartphone is a phone with smart OS features. While N900 is tablet with phone features. Mostly is internet tablet oriented, thats why u dont see MMS and other basic phone features This post has been edited by chicaman: Jul 25 2010, 08:54 PM |
