So far my N900 is being a wonderful... paperweight...
I MISS MAEMO! I never thought I'd say that, but yeah. I need my terminal fix soon or I'll go nuts. Now sliding my dead N900 open and close from time to time to ease the pain.

QUOTE(aspire2oo6 @ Jul 22 2010, 06:28 PM) Lol, I've personally unplugged the ribbon and re-plugged it back a couple of times already, and I can confidently tell you, that thing is not flimsy. The plastic backing is resilient and quite flexible, and the wiring/printed circuit on it is thick and done well. It actually looks TOUGH.Tough enough to make plugging it back it a great annoyance. It flips all over the wrong places rather than going into it's slot. A shame that the thing that probably died on my N900 (the eMMC) was the only thing I COULDN'T personally repair lol. @aspire2006: I USED a guitar pick stylus strap from my old 5800. Very convenient really.
@chicaman: That actually depends on your mce.ini settings. Well guys, it's official. When it rains, it pours. After getting the quotation for my N900 repair (motherboard and slider - RM400, two weeks), my W810i died. Now typing from my newly aquired toy, a battle hardened 2nd hand E71. |

QUOTE(Daniel89 @ Jul 25 2010, 02:20 AM) What are you guys going to do if Maemo is really totally abandon ? Change to Android OS or others OS eh ? But so far we are still waiting for a stable and better OS to change right hm ? Considering that Maemo's the only real desktop grade OS on a phone, I don't think I'm really going anywhere. Also, my new Shiichi-Tan (the 71) fills up much of the N900's failings as a phone, so no worries there. Unless of course, Meego turns out to be better. Maemo has been in the state of semi-abandonment ever since the 770 NIT days to begin with, and the community did fine nonetheless. |

QUOTE(Gouki @ Jul 25 2010, 06:08 AM) ok guys~ i'm a little noob on this~ we can actually do that? idling at low clock frequency and full speed when loading? Lol, the CPU already does this automatically (runs at whatever you set, idles at zero) - what you're setting are CPU freqs for low load and max load.Your N900 WILL die VERY QUICKLY if it runs full speed all the time, especially when OCed. |

QUOTE(jananan @ Jul 25 2010, 04:33 PM) its a script to restart all the running processes in the background, it *might* reset your widget arrangement on the desktop. so if you have done precision work on your desktop design, i suggest you look into the script to maybe disable some hildon related sections. And then there's the issue of data corruption and subsequent dying of the eMMC due to rebooting at the wrong time (while stuff is BEING swapped or vice versa), though in my case it could have been made worse by voltage being set too low. otherwise this script is very good if you are the type of person who doesn't restart your n900 everyday. those who restart once or twice a day don't have to run this unless you really multitask the hell out of your n900... its better to make it a habit to restart in every time you hook it up to a charger. this way your n900 is always fresh with no swap usage. But there was no real warning of impending doom too, which was very disconcerting... *sigh*. Now bringing my Nanai-Tan up to speed for the long 2 week long wait for her sister, there's a lot to install before she can become a fully fledged backup unit. And as a bonus, I get my beloved Garmin back! Thankfully, while she can never be a real replacement for what I consider as the best internet consumption device on the planet (our N900s), the seven one is a great smart"phone" that performs exceptionally well even after all these years. A shame nobody thought of giving her a touch screen, it would have been a fine Treo killer. And the qwerty prediction is phenomenal, to say the least (something even the N900 could learn from). Battery life's crazy long too. No wonder she's one of Nokia's best selling phones. I was too caught up in the touchscreen wars to even give her any consideration back then, but she's a fine workhorse companion to her high performance sister that's for sure. |

@Josh_M: Lock slider switch or the screen slide? If lock slider, it might be that the switch is faulty. I get that too, but it might just be the fact that it's kinda hard to slide properly with the Otterbox in place.
Sigh, I really miss my Kyureii right about now. The seven one, it's predictive text and ucweb is fine and all, but nothing beats microb and that fine full qwerty for optimal mobile web consumption. This post has been edited by Eiraku: Jul 26 2010, 11:48 AM |

QUOTE(cloud8318 @ Jul 26 2010, 01:20 PM) yes.....i know the slide switch can turn the LCD on/off when LCD slider not in use.....what i want is, can i set the LCD on/off as i request when close the LCD slider.....cos my LCD on/off by random when close the LCD slider If you slide the slider open WHEN THE PHONE IS LOCKED, the phone will unlock itself and automatically lock itself again when the slider is closed.normarly went i want to make a call when LCD slider open, i close the LCD slider to bring up the dial-pad to make a phone call....some time when i close the LCD slider, the screen turn OFF, i have to manual slide the slider switch to turn on the LCD again to make call That's normal behaviour, which I actually find quite annoying sometimes as well. Unlock your phone first. |

@chicaman: Connection failure maybe?
Anyhows, typing with my Nanai-Tan keyboard confirms one very important thing: the N900 would have benefited hugely from a four row hardware kb - AND the great error-correction present in the E71's text prediction system. It's simply sublime, really, even after all these years. And yes I miss my N900 and microB, extremely - I'm only at day one of two weeks and I already have moments where I go "microBBBBBBBBBB is whereeeeeee?" lol. @chicaman: aspire is correct, the N900 DOES NOT have a magnetometer, hence the wierd spinning around when stopped issue in Ovi Maps. Also, no REAL AR programs will work sans external orientation markers.
So, a week into my goreng goreng episode, anybody else fried their motherboards yet (or more specifically, the eMMC). Shame I trauma edi to run Starving after this, maybe just XLV 500-850 lol. @KKLOO: if you're using Titan's kernel, that's just the normal "crash recovery" settings. Another reboot and you'll be OCed again. And do you know what I strangely miss the most about the N900 guys? It's the ability to ctrl+z and undo anywhere. Very handy, trust me. QUOTE(jananan @ Jul 29 2010, 11:31 AM) You should go buzz titan about your findings, or buzz the guys up at maemo. Something seems funnay that a undervolted kernel doesn't save that much battery and DOESN'T sleep at zero. Maybe your stock kernel has SmartReflex enabled somehow? We need a proper power consumption visualization tool, ala Energy Profiler on symbian, that actually measures device power usage (rather then just the darned battery). But the N900 lacks the sensors, no? This post has been edited by Eiraku: Jul 29 2010, 01:14 PM |

The front page one isn't Titan's kernel, it's lehto's iinm. Flash back to a normal kernel and try Titan's by installing from appman if you want flexible freq control.
As for myself, I've had call and alarms issues like that for a while edi, now I'm having second thoughts about using the N900 as my PRIMARY phone when it comes back. Yes it's powerful as a internet consumption device, but as a phone it's just plain unreliable sometimes. |

@angelbratz: I use the other load applet app, the tiny one that works only on the side of your cell indicator on the main status bar. For me the statusbar popup space is a valuable commodity (as I don't like to scroll the popup).
Sigh, my N900 is still in the hospital, and I just got a new battery for my E71 to keep me sane until then. A full day under wifi, moderate usage and STILL more then 50% left? Not bad for an old phone with Symbian FP1. Anyway, anybody know how much the fees are for me to open a new 1 5 sub line for Celcom (I'm already running 3 subs at the moment)? I might need one soon for the N900. Either that or I run it as an pure 3G Tablet with a broadband sim (which is kinda a waste, considering the N900 CAN make calls, although it isn't really good at it lol). Ah, decisions decisions. @angelbratz and cloud8318: Its the load app with the tiny black and white bars for CPU and memory load besides the battery - and NO buttons at all.
And yeah, my phone is due from hospital next week. But seriously, for the love of god, someone PLEASE port the keyboard input autocompletion system from the E71 to the N900? Or at least tweak/hack Hildon Input Manager to do something similar. It's just phenomenal I tell you, and the one on the N900 is just plain bad in comparison. |

QUOTE(umang2 @ Aug 1 2010, 10:00 PM) As one of the few crazy people who actually own an Otterbox for the N900, I'd say if you have the money/patience to wait for the 2 weeks plus shipping (and also you need to live with poking a hole in it for the lanyard/strap), go get it. Nothing else compares, and IMHO, it will probably outlast the phone. It already outlasted mine lol. I still owe you guys a full review though. Haveta wait until I get my N900 from hospital first. |

I multitask heavily, which means a slight OC is needed. I'd also move swap to the NAND flash (the fast rootfs flash) and a fast memory card (both of which is far faster then the eMMC for swap) - but I'm still traumatised after the recent death of my N900, so no changes that are too crazy for the initial few months of its rebirth.
If I can stand NOT hacking my N900, that is. @lee0125: wait till you see the Galaxy S Pro. Now that's a sweet andie phone. This post has been edited by Eiraku: Aug 2 2010, 03:14 PM |
