totally disabling the tracker from running improved my battery life by at least 10% -15% or more. my n900 does not index / watch any of the directories now...

one downside is that media player does not see any of the new files. have to use 3rd party player to manuall open it.

or you can enable the tracker > reboot > let it reindex everything > disable > reboot

this way you can be sure its not leaving some orphan process in the background...

after a fresh boot, the processor spikes only for nearly a minute then calms down to 250Mhz and about 2% - 3% usage

you dont have to format unnecessarily. it will not suddenly ask you to format every couple of months. in fact you dont have to format it at all.

it all depends on how you use it, lets say on your computer you installs some *pirated* software and end up screwing up your system with some trojan or virus.

then you have to format, right. so if you go and tinker with your n900 you will probably never have to format.

but then whats the point in buying a n900 and just use it with default settings and system config. its not an iphone for gods sake...

its like buying a spanking new tuneable ECU for your sports car, but never touch it and just use as stock.

when you press the buttons irreco, use another phone's camera see the infrared light emitted from the IR transceiver of the n900.

most cmos sensor based cameras would be able to see infrared wavelength...

Make sure the WiFi has Internet access. If confirm have, make sure your N900 is connected successfully to the Wifi and able to obtain IP address. If able to obtain IP Address, need to make sure the DNS server is obtain successfully.

To put it simple, after you confirm you have connected to the WiFi, try to go to google website, if not able to load, means there is no internet access or fail to obtain access.

You want to upload picture to facebook? If you're using latest firmware PR1.2, it's built in.
Firstly, you need to add the account in the Settings-->Sharing accounts.
When viewing the picture, there is a SHARE service, click on it and you can share via Email, Bluetooth, and Service. From the Service, you can select the accounts which you have set.
By doing this way, you can even upload videos, etc.

If depends on the user and how you use.
I for one, hates format, so I hardly format my PC, I think already many years I never format. The most also I do restore or reinstall, never format as I hate to do backup of all the files in the hard drive, etc.

If there is problem, it depends whether you know how to fix, e.g. cleaning spywares, virus, etc. The easy way of course is format. I opt for manual cleaning.

In short, it depends on the user, how you use it, what you install, etc.
I didn't format my N900, only update the firmware.

When there is lag, usually you just need to restart your PC or device so that the memory is released. When the virtual/swap memory is used, it will cause lag/performance issue. Most of the time, it is due to this and a restart will do the job for you.

the difference between n97 and n900 is n97 need an app to access facebook to use its application when n900 u can direct access www.facebook.com . If u want to use the full facebook website u need download userhideagent from app manager. Then use firefox string and facebook website will detect your n900 as a browser
