the gpu in this laptop is soldered together with the motherboard, so u cant change it anymore. cpu however, u can change it provided u know what u r doing, plz read this. i'm not sure whether or not u can get the unit with free dos or not.

Dell doesn't sell it (this model/version) with Free Dos, I think. All come with Windows, whether you buy from shops or online.

My battery is standard. It's the laptop MB problem, probably.

Screen flickering, I use low brightness (not dark, but as low as I can get it without troubling the power settings too much).

Added on May 29, 2011, 9:30 amOh what I mean is I don't notice prolonged screen flickering, but I have seen it like a few times - flashing that is very infrequent.

Added on May 29, 2011, 9:31 amErm, ppl still talked about buying this? You can't do so online anymore.

XPS 15z looks good, MUCH improved over old one (slot load!) but not cheap. Anyways it uses the old GPU still.

Found this page containing the latest drivers for XPS16, just wondering should we install the AMD Mobility Catalyst since the ATI Catalyst we have are quite old. It writes support ATI should we uninstall the ATI Catalyst 1st?

Anyway you guys know what other options other than IDT audio driver?

I found out when i uninstall the IDT my blip "warm up" sound dissapear. But without the IDT i cannot configure 5.1 speakers.

Added on May 29, 2011, 7:41 pmAlso i installed the Intel® PROSetWireless WiFi v13.5.0 but after that it shows adapter not found. The wifi still works though just not in Intel My Wifi Technology.

Anyway seems many xps16 have this problem but you guys are lucky not to have it.

http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-s...t-hd-audio.html

I just uninstalled the Intel pro wireless as it seems useless on mine.

Added on May 29, 2011, 8:48 pmBTW i notice an unremovable smudge or dirt behind the LCD glass, coz i wiped & wiped but it won't go away, it's about 2 pixel big not too noticeable if not looking at white background. Did a quick check it seems it's quite common for this monitor. Not sure if local dell would give you a replacement screen I don't recommend sending it back for "cleaning". My case is not that bad so i guess i'll live with it.

If wanna know more can check out here:

http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-s...-my-screen.html

If you wanna check whole screen i suggest you output full white on the screen when checking.

Hi all,

I just got my Dell Studio XPS16 this morning after waiting for 3 weeks sad.gif but now i am happy smile.gif Just setup Windows 7, created my Data Recovery Discs, downloaded Firefox & Chrome and updated the BIOS... walau.... so much things to do before I can actually use it! I love the screen! Actually, it's one of the main reasons I got the Dell... was thinking about Acer, but they got too many specs until I was blur. Plus got no 1080 x 1920 res.

This is a great thread to read up on... hope I don't run into any major problems. K, back to messing with my XPS!

hello people,
i think all of u know that dell's warrant is next business day on-site right?

the tech support opened a case for my laptop due to battery problem on last friday

the tech support said that the engineer will come in to my place on today (wed) on last friday with full confidence, and she did told me that monday and tuesday is public holiday

but then just now the person from region HQ told me they will come in by tomorrow

he told me it's due to the 2 days state's holiday (sabah, 30 and 31 may) and they just received the case on this morning

i called the tech support just now and they told me it's SOP due to state's holiday in Sabah
then i ask them why they dont inform me at the first point

they said they received the statement on last minute and they didnt know it is state's public holiday
then how come the one who helped me opened the case know it's public holiday and telling me that the person will come in on wednesday? hmm.gif

i did called to tech support on monday around 4.30pm (peninsular malaysia doesnt have holiday) to reconfirm the case and they didnt inform me abt this vmad.gif

i assume that the statement of declaring holiday in Sabah is come in on tuesday, even it's like that, they should give me a call to inform me that the appointment will be postponed to thursday mah vmad.gif

ended up wasted my time to wait for the engineer to come in mad.gif

i see
in my case, i didnt change any contact information/address/etc
the tech support person said that monday and tuesday is holiday
so the person will come in on wednesday

but the region HQ over here told me the person will come in by tomorrow
i called tech support again and they told me they dont know it's holiday and they received the statement on last minute
but i did called them on monday, they still said that the appointment still on wednesday

then i asked them why they dont know abt the holiday?
they said it's their SOP to receive statement of state holiday in last minute
and they dont even border to call me/inform me the changes

so i wonder giving wrong infomation and didint inform changes to their customers is also part of their SOP?
