sorry, this is my first time using iphone device and i nvr tot that the 'speaker' actually mic.
*
Nope, sorry , no free pass. I don't go around buying my first DVD player and ask why there's no picture when I turn it on. I read the manual when that happens. I read the manual for which cables to plug into and which channel to turn on to. Same case here. Apple did not employ anyone here, or its Genius bar staff for that matter, questions with commonly known answers. Some things, after its fourth iteration, are common knowledge. Even if that DVD player I mentioned before, is my first one, I wouldn't dare simply turn it on and assume that everything would work based on what I "think" it should be. I read the manual. Or make sure I read and know everything there is needed to know before I bring that matter to the attention of others. Probably to avoid from making a fool of myself. wink.gif

I'm sure in your line of work, with your job "working as computer technician formatting PC and lappy", you'd be reading instructions and procedures laid out on a specific manner on some for of printed text, wouldn't you?

@DG,

I raise you "one dinner meal" for the next idiot who ask another common knowledge/common sense question. I predict that it will be, from the look of things here, that it would be in the span of one month,or if I'm lucky, less than that. If it didn't happen, I belanja you dinner. tongue.gif

@nokia2003,

Score indeed. I've reset the timer for the "next facepalming question" to be asked, care to bet when that is gonna happen? We can wager meals or Starbucks coffee if you like. We can bet on "stupid answers to stupid questions" too, I'd imagine the lines exchanged between them would be straight from the movie "Dumb and Dumber" tongue.gif

These scenario of commonly FAQ is also rampant in other windows mobile and android forums. Most mods do a verge good job putting up a good summary of product features, links to other site, FAQ, etc in the post 1 or 2. Problem is most new users never bother to even read these first posts. Forget about even asking them to refer to manual

Before I even buy any new notebook, smartphone I will always research about it in the appropriate forum. It is now so convenient. I will download the manual if available and read it first.

This is a problem and a growing one I noticed especially with the younger generation. They expect instant answers, they face a issue they jump into the forum and ask. I see same problem with some of my staffs in my work experience past 35 years.
There is lack of initiative and unwillingness to research for solutions. All they want is instant answer. Not suprising such staffs of mine rarely get the needed promotions due to lack of initiatives.

Well the iPhone 3G memory is very low where the ram I only 128mb..so using 4.0 the os need extra memory..is always recommended for 3G and 2g not to use the 4.0 OS

Nobody's "raging" "laio", just pointing out the "white elephant in the room". Checking out the instruction booklets, especially the Fingertips booklet provided, it points to :-

QUOTE
....you can learn even more about iPhone at www.apple.com/iphone

On the Learn More section inside the booklet, it again points to that link above. And it even provides the iPhone User Guide links to view or download, and guess what, it points to the relatively same info as the one in the pinned thread here. VEterans would be fine to skim through without reading because they know what components and parts are on their iPhone, but newbies like you, it doesn't make sense to get to know your iPhone before you use it? Funny how some people think that once they've held the iPhone in their hands that they think they know everything about it already.

+1 on the bolded part. It seems to be the cancerous problem with these people, they're so used to getting their answers fast, they turn to the forum and expect the same treatment here. Funny thing is, there is an equally fast way to get the same information: Google. In fact, if he even bother to Google the very same question he asked , "my iphone 4 left speaker sounds so slow than my right one..is it normal?", the answer he would get from that search result, third from the top, would have already got him his answer, and only in 0.21 seconds. Plus it avoids making himself looking like an idiot asking in public forums like here. Oh well, like you say, "kids these days". I not that old myself, and I thank God I don't fall victim to fits of laziness like this.

I think the next time another person ask that same question, we just post that picture. I gave up asking them to read up on the manual. shakehead.gif

Even 4.1 cant help you much, the lags will still bothering you. Its better to downgrade back to 3.1.3. IMO, 3.1.3 is the max stage i3g can reach. brows.gif

This issue is not resolved yet and it seems does not affect every user ; probably due to production issues in certain batches of production. Apple had acknowledge this is a problem and Steve Jobs at his last conference promised a software patch but apparently was not in the 4.01

A very good and detailed comparison. Those having issues with photo n video quality the writer explain very well the iphone4 deficiencies. Again in any comparison there is no winner ..choice will depend on which features are more important to you

Dont think so. However if you want to restore back your apps you can do it manually. Transfer apps manually over - all your apps are at folder itunes/itunes media/Mobile applications

I read from here : Article on AUG 20 - http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/10/08...enter_more.html

The forthcoming iOS 4.1 software update will pack a number of fixes for Apple's mobile devices, including a problematic issue with the iPhone 4 proximity sensor. AppleInsider offers a closer look at the latest beta available to developers.

iOS 4.1 is currently in its third beta, released earlier this month. It addresses many issues that users have experienced, including problems with Bluetooth connectivity.

The official list of fixes and enhancements does not make mention of the proximity sensor or Bluetooth functionality. However, time spent with the latest beta build shows a marked improvement with those features.

The most recent update also added new features such as a new API that allows apps to access contact thumbnail pictures.

However, the software is still not ready for public use, as major glitches remain that prevent it from release. Most notably, there are memory leaks in beta 3 that can cause serious issues.

Proximity sensor

While not documented by Apple, experience with the iOS 4.1 beta has shown that the proximity sensor on the iPhone 4 is far more reliable
. Since the device launched in June, users have reported that the handset's touchscreen will sometimes turn on in the midst of a call, resulting in accidental button presses that can end a call or place someone on hold.

At a press conference in July, Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs confirmed that his company was aware of the problem and working on a fix. But the first two minor updates to iOS 4, in the form of 4.0.1 and 4.0.2, did not address the problem.

Yeah my bad. For me if I hear any problem with IPhone 4 my heart will sink and the only thing I will think of is doing a reset/genius bar. My first Iphone by the way. Doesn't have to laugh or tease me that badly mah. Sai ng sai ah bro...? We all kawan neh...you scratch my back I scratch yours le. Yeah I shall start from the basic biggrin.gif

I don't feel ashamed to admit that this is my first Apple product and I have little knowledge or whatsoever on it. That was my sincere answer to him because that was what I would do if I was in the same situation. I am constantly trying to learn and I do admit i miss out on the basics. That's why I am trying to read this and other forums whenever I have free time out of my lab. After having some problems with my previous sets I have to say I am a littler paranoid now.

Don't lah be so harsh on us by likening us to Dumb and Dumber, bro. Newbies are sometimes called noobies. That's y we need pros to help us out. Now, before you shoot me back let me tell you honestly I am not here to start a war of words with anyone. If I have offended you or anyone else, I would like to apologize in advance.  *peace*  icon_rolleyes.gif

I have this problem with my ip4 too. Didn't realize it was happening until the loudspeaker suddenly turned on mid-call. then stand in front of a mirror only realized the proximity sensor sometimes works sometimes doesn't work.

antenna problem, proximity sensor problem, super yellow white balance, i wonder how apple's testers never detected these things.
