Hi Pcphobic & All bro,

What is the advantages of Ginger vs Froyo 2.2?

Been using Froyo 2.2 & feel quite ok & lazy to upgrade to ginger, afraid our Milestone will be sluggish after installing this ginger, any comment/feedback?

thanks!

It is Android 2.3.4 now with Cronos Ginger ver.1.4

You can install Talk ver.1.3 that enables u to make voice and video calls to friends on PC who are using Gmail chat (via Gmail) or friends who have an Android phone with front facing camera running on Android 2.3.3 and above.

I have been making voice calls using Talk to friends overseas. Saved me on expensive IDD charges.

You also get better battery life on Gingerbread.

No random reboots so far since I flashed Cronos ver.1.4 on 30th of May.
( The official website is at http://www.cronosproject.org/forum/ )

Cronos Ginger ver.1.4 - Overnight Battery Drain Test

I always perform the same benchmark test with any new ROM that I flash to gauge for myself how much battery it drains on idle/standby.

Condition:

Data Connection: 2G only
Google Contacts Sync: On
Google Calendar Sync: On
Gmail Sync: On
Talk: On

Result:
It lost only 10% after 8 hours of idle.

I have also tweaked it with Autokiller Memory Optimizer with the following settings:
Hidden app: 24
Content provider: 28
Empty app: 30

did they fix the slowness, some of the know bugs ?

is there other ways to update to froyo cause i have problems update through phone and MSU...
Ahh the good times ... i had this problem too after only using for 3 mths, 1st u will see slight ghost tapping, dragging notice bar
later will get worse u will see it auto dial, auto launch program. My solution is send for repair ... most probably hardware prob n replace new phone like mine

Hey, pcphobic.

I'm a real noob here. I've bought a milestone (2nd hand), already with Cyanogenmod 7 RC3. I've read the first post and I've looked into chronosproject site, XDA and others. SBF, Nandroid, OpenRecovery and others. And I am still confused and don't know how to flash a custom rom.

Is there any tutorial, step-by-step, how to flash Chronos? What are the requirements? I really appreciate it if you could help me here as my milestone is random lag, FC and even reboots. Sakit hati woo...

ps: It was easier to flash when using Galaxy 5. Using only Odin.

What is the highest capacity and class memory card our MS can take? I think classes 8-10 must be overkill, right?

Does choice matter if not rooted?

higher classes mean faster access to the stuff is SD card. so no matter root or not still will get the faster speed benefits.

So the MS can access all 16GB? Any noticeable speed difference running 8 or 16 GB? Big cards in cameras usually cause annoying transfer lag.

Havin a great time with FroyoMOD v2.8.0. In my personal experience this is the fastest Froyo ROM out there for Milestone thumbup.gif

For Eclair fans, get Telus 5.2, fastest Eclair ROM for Milestone thumbup.gif

Both can run Samurai Vengence above without any issues (I feel the Eclair is faster.. hm but that's just me).

First of all go do your research (google is your friend) on the following terms (it took me a few days to learn):

- Recovery mode
- Recovery menu
- Open Recovery menu aka Custom Open Recovery menu
- Androidiani Open Recovery
- Bootloader mode
- Bootloader menu
- Nandroid backup

Then u need to use the G.O.T method to "break free" or trick the phone to accept unsigned Open Recovery menu.

Please refer to this posting for further details on using the G.O.T method - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=811221

I am seldom here. All the experts are in XDA forum and Cronosproject.org

DROID is for USA only. So may not work outside of USA.

Milestone is the European or Global version of the DROID which works all over the world except USA and some parts of North and South America.

I don't have 99complete file in my init.d folder. So unsurprisingly after I paste your file into the folder and restart, the read_ahead_kb in 179:0 folder it still at 128 value. Maybe it only works with CM and Cronos ROM. I'm using stock ROM.

I'm now using SD-Booster to set the value and auto apply on boot. I set it at 768 value, although it give lower result on the benchmark, but it feel much faster, with 2048 I still can see short time of pictures in gallery haven't load but now can't see it. Guess this value is better for file size 2-5MB.
