razuryza, my sentiments exactly..

by all means, i am no sifu unlike many others here are... but here is my humble opinion

you can't say that someone who have just used a camera, or a DSLR for that matter for 2 days only to not be able to shoot good photos. heck, even if he's good, using a PnS would still pwn a slr user of multiple years if the slr user know nuts about what he is using.

its not fair for me to compare without your friend's winning photo as a base. but from what i see, your shot lacks composition - namely, too much dark skies, bottom right distraction, spots on the centre right, bridge is incomplete (cut halfway)...

yes i can see you used a slow shutter to freeze the moving thing, i assume its a boat? but where's the boat? i only see lines, where did the lines come from? where did it disappear to?

what are u trying to achieve? is there a theme? are u aiming for color contrast or color harmony? i do not feel anything from the shot (sorry), 1st impression.. snapshot. put it this way, can your shot be taken by anyone using a point and shoot who is simply walking down the street? ask yourself after taking/or before taking the shot, what makes this shot special? will it give a WAHHHHH impression on anyone who sees the picture?

edit: jz noticed its Pesta Sungai Melaka. if that's the case, i think your image doesn't depict the 'nice-ness' of the sungai, if i were to make a wild guess without knowing the theme, i'd say your main subject is the BBB aka bright blue bridge.

i'll wait for your friend's pic before i give further comments. please, do upload..

Hehehe dats what I say.if ur pictures got no story, or it represents just some light (u focus on the light trail,sampai lupa abour compo & WB) then even if u're 20 year in photography u can be beaten by pic captured with Nokia 6220 (5mp zeiss lens) if that pic tells a story..

But then again.. I don't know the whole story so can't really say much more..
If the theme is night scenery, or light trail, or colorful fiesta..then yes, u might have a chance there

some opinion from newbie, maybe I'm wrong as I just use my feel to judge ur photo.

What I felt from ur photo is:
u are too focus on the lightings... is it relate with the objective?

For me, I will focus on sungai to get great lighting deflection from sungai ( Clean and shine ).

Btw, pls upload top 3 photos for us to lean more.. Thx.

hi all, baru balik dari shooting sunset at Gold coast again. sadly today raining all my way to sepang but luckily stop. But too many clouds so not much to expect.

anyways, looked after the shots i took i notice got white dots if zoom 100%. first i thought was debris when flash shot. but this is from a long exposure shots. later i upload abit.

i only know that kingston is really slow on a200, a300 and a350... avoid kingston CF at all cost if you using the above mentioned models...
