MechaHerc: You can buy tungsten-balanced film; most common is daylight-balanced film.

However if you want to use tungsten-balanced film in daylight, you need to put an orange warming filter so daylight becomes tungsten.

If you want to use daylight-balanced film in tungsten, you need to put a blue cooling filter so tungsten becomes daylight.

There is also a FL (Flourescent) filter which is magenta-colored to use daylight-balanced film in flourescent light.

Red filters are used with black-and-white film to darken skies and increase contrast. Green filters allow more green light allowing for brighter trees.

but with digital, its all done with the WB button.. taking away all the guesswork.. essentially, making photographers now less technical minded compared to back in the olden days...

Added on June 25, 2010, 4:36 pmbut ppl STILL manage to get WBs wrong.. doh.gif too much RAW-reliant...

That said, the sensor only has one native ISO and WB - the other WB settings are just adjustments on the color curves.

This is why a 2500K M9 shot can appear much noisier - it's trying to pull non-existent blue light out. You'll get a cleaner shot (but slower shutter) using a blue filter.

@mastering89: I'm a poor guy with only screw driven lens. If my 1870 go kaput maybe will try la, since not worth fixing it and no market value anyway ma tongue.gif

Its been ages since I've handle some film camera. What I remember is buy ISO400 film and keep your hand as steady as possible laugh.gif

guys, maybe it's not a right place for me to rant here...
but, hope u guys can give me a piece of advice...

I joined the Pesta Sungai Melaka 2010 Forografi Competition ( students category)
got 11 participants only, 6 prizes (1st, 2nd , 3rd and 3 sagu hati)

I already expected myself to win the 1st prize, or if not one of the first three placing.
I dunno wat went wrong, I got sagu hati..

And worst of all, the person that got first is my friend that just got his SLR 2 days ago!
I feeling so disappoint man !

Here's my pic.. I ll upload his pic later for u guys to compare.
I doubt my shot is so bad,..the judges must be blind !

@lwliam: Maybe I should rephrase that what I mean is that's the only stuff I know bout photography. Only when I started this hobby for 1+ years only I learn more on shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and so on whistling.gif

Back then, a day trip would only need about 3 rolls of film? Now in the digital era, normal trip can take easily exceed 100 photos laugh.gif

Maybe judges don't like long shutter pics..
Or is it too colorful?
or simply because they expect pics that they can understand..
The light trail is nice.color is very vibrant..

But then again.maybe the winner got pics with story behind
