well not really, I've got offers but I was lazy to meetup so I kinda stopped the search for this lens. Then.. I finally decided to get the lens after knowing the fact that I simply can't afford the 35L alone, yet. lol.
btw it's a used lens, it looks very new so I didn't mind. Besides it's much cheaper than buying a new one.


Just took it out for some birthday shots for my sis, but will wait till I get a decent ones.
Meanwhile, this lens is pretty sharp wide open

50D way better? not really.

it depends on what you want. definitely 550D has advantage of noise control, LCD, megapixel, video mode, light weight.

so you win some you lose some.

if you prefer bigger body, subjectively more solid feel, faster burst mode and don't mine lesser megapixel, noise control and no video mode. 50D for you. furthermore Canon has promotion for 50D now.



not necessarily. their buttons are differently placed to begin with.

the 550D ergonomics are good but i won't say the 50D being better, of course the dial is a convenient part of all Canon higher grade bodies.

MINE IS 400D with 18-55mm std kit and last weeek bought nissin 622 thinking it would help, recently bought a pana tz10 compact to back normal day use. At first i was considering 500d, then came 550d (what;s the best price for the 18-555mm kit?).....as quite decided that i need to upgrade from my 400d, but then last week photofair at mv, salesmen psycho me to consider 50d bcos it will be difff category "proper upgrade" and now got 70-300mm lens for extra RM800.. 500d/550d still regarded as beginner entry level dslr. Feeling 50d in my hand my reservations are size (bcos i dun like lugging ard big cameras) and no video (not sure if this will come in handy) and digic processor (will this give me better picture compared to 550d). When will 60d be coming and should i wait?

Budget max is 4k but of course will stick to 500d ard 3k if its better value for money. Just really need to know if worth paying extra for 50d.

Main intention is to take kids pictures and travelling pics. btw, anyone can advise best price for 50d (18-55)?

1. 400D to 500D / 550D is a huge upgrade! specs wise 500D is like a mini 50D with video, 550D is has a lot of features over 50D. whether you jump 1 class above or stay same class (entry level) it is still and upgrade.

2. 50D now has the 75-300 offer. yes. and what do you mean for extra RM 800? Canon's offer is that you buy the 50D they give you 75-300 FREE! don't pay extra for it.

3. if size is an issue - go for 550D. it's superb. I'm using it and I like it a lot and would go for 550D over 50D unless i want burst mode......... but 50D is totally out of my intended purchase list because it has no video, something which i use a lot.

550D with 18-55 IS is about RM 2799 - 2899 range.

i don't know how old are your kids but 50D with Tamron 17-50 f2.8 would certainly have advantage over 550D with 18-55 IS lens when it comes to snapping fast motion of kids.

550D with Tamron 17-50 f2.8 would be good too, just lesser frame per second for shooting children. not exactly a critical matter to me.

either bodies are fine for travelling. in the end it's up to your hands - my hands prefer the smaller bodies, and i like them being light, comes with video and best of all the sweet 18MP in case i need to crop.

maybe my definition of sharpness is different
