Yes. I think prudent and frugal are also ok. But I like cheapskate. Lol
Er he is not wrong you know. I optimise my cost as best as possible. Why do you think I am not a priority banking or have minimum with banks as much possible.

And yes I don't bring my money back. Never had. Next time is figure how to use the money without it needing to come back.

Thing is,... I recalled he said earlier,... he will remain single, and will never have kids. But I guessed people changed as time passes-by.

I have been going out and meeting girls. But what to do? Girls don't like guys who don't spend money, no yearly overseas trip, no makan out.

Also hard to find a girl with the above characteristics.l and value delayed gratification.

Need to find a girl who have that who don't spend money, no yearly overseas trip, no makan out.

laugh.gif What have you done to this thread Ramjade laugh.gif

Suddenly open SG bank account topic become single, no gf, kids suck $$$

laugh.gif

But yea, bro Ram, cheapstake girls are hard to come by. Girls these days expect guys to pay for everything, buy endless present, gifts.

It never ends bro. If you don't make them realize the beauty of economic rice in Malaysia and Singapore, we the "4k a month in Klang Valley fresh grad" men will go bankrupt sooner rather than later with endless personal loans and credit card debts.

I broke up recently over money issues, and feel for you as well. smile.gif

As for kiasu schools, best milk powders. I graduated from a not-so-popular primary school very near my house. Aced through UPSR with 7As. entered the top secondary school in Penang. My neighbour went to top primary school a little further from my house, still entered the same secondary school as mine, with slightly poorer results.

The best milk powder and top-tier schooling system can only help that much. Having seen and dated with girls with terrible attitudes, one must conclude that parent's nurturing and education matters the most in the end.

Enough off-topic stuffs, let's continue with opening bank accounts in SG. smile.gif

I have a question. I have read a little bit about DuitNow oversea transfer and it said it will follow the bank foreign exchange rate. May I know why there is a difference here between duitnow and other methods even though it is the same bank?

Sorry, need to get it down right away, main purpose is to deposit into IBKR.
I'm already using Maybank, so would be directly easier for me to open Maybank SG right? Or cimb sg account still has some advantage? (Besides the min sgd200 balance for Maybank sgd)

Once open Maybank sgd, use sunway money to transfer myr, and then use IBKR deposit sgd function?

The advantage of CIMB SG is its superior SGD-MYR exchange rate when you decided to bring those money back home

trying to apply for MBB SG https://www.maybank2u.com.sg/en/personal/cr...casa/index.page , but i was rerouted to MBB MY, and then log in, it says it doesn't exist.

anyways to confirm if process below to fund IBKR
a) open mbb
b) then duitnow MBB MY-> MBB SG
c) then use MBB SG to fund IBKR

for rewithdrawal comparison MBB and WISE, can i say there's not much difference? as IBKR offers 1time free withdrawal for any options?

so basically i'm just saving when funding to IBKR only using MBB SG (comparing to wise)

Use Cimb SG over Maybank sg. Reasons
1. Cimb SG got very good rates if and when you want to bring the money back to Malaysia
2. No minimum amount required to be forever lock up in the account mine only have SGD0.10

DuitNow daily limit RM3k. between RM3,000 to RM50,000 can use Sunway Money. after that can use Maybank Overseas transfer up to RM100k

monthly 1st withdrawal free for all kinds. below is the fee u need to pay if need to make 2nd withdrawal in 1 month

user posted image

this doesn't include forex fees. e.g., if want to convert USD to SGD in IBKR, have to pay USD2. so if u just want to withdraw RM500, you'll find that Wise will be cheaper

Hey there, interesting thread here.

I was looking in to opening a bank account in SG for work purposes. It seems the consensus here is that the best option is opening CIMB MY and CIMB SG.

- CIMB SG has the best rate to transfer money back to Malaysia to CIMB MY.
- Transferring from Malaysia to CIMB SG however should use MoneyMatch/Sunway Money for better rates to SG.

I am also interested in IBKR for investment purposes which of course can be deposited through CIMB SG.

CIMB SG could be my salary deposit account, the downside is that they don't seem to have much ATMs at all if I need cash withdrawals.

Does this make sense for someone working in SG? Or was it mostly for someone working in MY wanting to use SG accounts with IBKR Investments?

SwarmTroll because you'll be working in singapore soon, it might be better for you to open a proper singapore bank acct before creating a CIMB sg acct to remit money back to MY. many sinkies open CIMB sg acct bcos of good interest rates anyway https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/...176026/page-314

alternatively, you can open a MBB sg bank acct right now for your banking/salary needs, and also use it to open CIMB sg acct. it'll also give you access to atm5 network in SG https://www.maybank2u.com.sg/iwov-resources...atm-network.pdf. but MBB sg is not a full fledged bank compared to home grown banks like DBS
