Why is your 3DMark06 score so low? My M15x can get 12,075... hmm.gif
3DMark Vantage looks normal for a machine like yours though. flex.gif

no idea bro. perhaps like what mr.Docter and joker mentioned, wait for the updated driver that will unleash the true performance for this card brows.gif

wish to help you more, but unfortunately i am not using ATi Mobility before, so can't comment much.

but for a start - try to update your GPU driver and benchmark with it. make sure you using CPUID HWMonitor too to check the temp.

ATi driver gives u more disappointment than surprise...

and Catalyst 10.5 seems to screw up the idle clock... for me at least... now running on 10.4...

the 10.5 will screw your performance or stability?

or worst - both? hmm.gif

well, the default clock for my HD4650 is core/RAM 220/300 and 550/667 for idle and load respectively...

at 10.5, the clock is stuck at 450/500 no matter what i am doing... be it watching HD TV, playing games, Folding, or doing nothing...

looks like hairuLeZ need to check his version of driver.

mann, why can't ATi is as good as Nvidia in term of driver support? they almost perfect in every aspect already cry.gif

well, driver has always been the weakness of ATi cards since the days of Radeon 9000 (that's like almost 10yrs ago)... it has gotten better since Radeon HD2000, but is still not as good as NV...

the most classic recent example is Dirt 2... the game is heavily optimized for Radeon HD5000 series... but HD5870 (desktop) still gets pwn-ed pretty badly by GTX 480... it's expected that HD5870 would perform worse, but heck, the margin is juz too big...

but at least, ATi saves some graces with low power consumption and low cost... nod.gif

well, i didn't notice the problem with Catalyst 10.5 until someone using a HP dv6 with HD4650 (same clock as mine) complains that his idle temp went up after updating the driver... so i fired up GPU-Z to check mine and saw the clock and i go sweat.gif

but the interesting thing is, a BenQ S57 user (also HD4650, but default clocked at 550/700 instead) says he got no problem... hmm.gif

eh i thought GTX480 is dual GPU while 5870 is single GPU. so its not fair to compare both of them.

and DiRT2 is one of the poorly optimized game. just look the release date and the date they release driver patch to support SLi. gosh shakehead.gif

anyway, the root of the problem is that ATi adjusted the idle clock in 10.5 so that cards that support Eyefinity will ve better graphic performance during idle... and it seems that they forgot abt the mobile GPU users who prefer battery life over performance when in idle...

nah, GTX 480 is single GPU, and the best part is, it's a result of product binning... some of the SP has been disabled due to poor manufacturing of 40nm chips...

the patch is mainly cuz Dirt 2 was sponsored by AMD in order to show off DX11 when HD5000 was launched... it's super duper heavily optimized for HD5000...

ohh my fact is kinda mistaken there. thanks for the info.

yeah. its purposely bragging with Dx11 since Nvidia still not reaching Dx11 that time. the driver support was pretty biased, i would say. sleep.gif

well, i dont think GTX480M will pawn HD5870 mobility, cause GTX480M is tested by Core i7 930 which HD5870 mobility is using Core i7 720QM...
9k vs 8k benchmark, seems like wont have a big different
NV power consump a lot, hot, expensive, even is 10% different, i think i will choose ATi.....

well, after checking GPUZ my idle clock was 250 core clock/200 memory clock with Ati 10.5 driver, seems to be vry good for idle....
