planning to subscribe to maxis, starting practical in Muadzam Shah.

Completely new to any kind of wireless broadband (been leeching off university line for 4 years). Anything I should know?

yes. Maxis, just like all other msian telcos, sucks. big time!
but they have the widest coverage (along with celcom) while digi and umobile have very limited coverage. so no choice la but maxis...

What I experienced is that, when I surf certain sites, e.g. blogspot, it totally does not load at all. I also experience problems with google map - couldn't load the maps at all as well.

Maxis staff adviced me to to this everytime before I connect:

Goto Tools > Options > Network

Choose Network type as WCDMA preferred - click apply

Then goto registration mode - select manual search & register - then refresh. Wait for awhile and a list of detected network appears - select MY MAXIS and click register and you're good to go.

After that, blogspot loads very fast as well as google map.
