Got this email today. Better buy fast everyone who is entitled

At this time, we would like to advise that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) will be enforced on the car tax exemption accorded to all successful applicants under the Returning Expert Programme (REP). Beginning 1 April 2015, 6% GST will be applied to all invoices issued relating to the purchase of one locally manufactured Complete Knock Down (CKD) or the importation of one Complete Built Up (CBU) (reaching the port on or after 1 April 2015). This tax is separate from the RM150,000 taxes and duties exempted under the REP incentive package.

So in the end you pay less for the car no?

For REP or mm2h purchase.
Base on my understand on the letter of from MOF,
Ur car price will be increase by implement of GST.

Example:
Before 1/April.
Vios- car price around 88k.
Less Excise duty around 15k.
Less Sales tax around 5k.
Tax exempted price : 68k.

After 1/April.
Vios - car price around 83k. (No sales tax)
Less Excise duty around 15k.
Add GST around 4000.
Tax exempted price : 72k.

GST not going to waive for REP and mm2h cust as it is different tax compare to excise duty and sales tax.

I seriously don't see how TalentCorp objective of stamping the brain drain will happen as they start to impose all these conditions. They can call it any tax they want, but ultimately it will be less and less attractive for those overseas to come back.

see it as a bonus. Malaysians do not come back due to these immaterial incentives.

Depending on the car dealer.

Once you get the approval the process should be quick provided your loan document and everything is ready.

The duration can be as short as 2 weeks depending on your sales agent

what car are you getting?

mind to share the price of the car? would be a good reference in future.

Now we have Mazda 3 and Hyundai Tucson launched as CKD this week the CKD market is getting more competitive!

Looks like no one has sold their REP car after 2 years or later... I plan to sell "mine" after the 2 years limit in July this year; need to change to a MPV.

Thats quite a lot. You can actually do the documentation yourself and everything is done online! (except getting the digital cert)

Yah, try calling Custom is pointless. Maybe if you head to a Custom HQ to inquire maybe got some progress. I see some ppl offering to provide service which will cost RM10K-RM15K, but I feel that is too much.

The Custom HQ is in Putrajaya; maybe can go to the Kelana Jaya branch to enquire. Or else go to Johor Kastam branch on a Sunday to enquire.

Anybody communicated with Daniel before? The guy offering services to sell REP cars.
