then y bother labelling it affordable? what's affordable to a billionaire is not for a peon

that makes the whole definition of affordable moot.

i think a general idea of the price range of affordable should be established
*
hey thats the English definition. not happy complain to the ENTIRE ENGLISH COMMUNITY.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/affordable

if U wanna talk about under RM200 sure go ahead no one stopping U, wanna b**** here is not the place.
U think, he thought, who confirm? Go read 1st few pages again, the motive is clear.

I think what he meant is that the title could survive just being The Watches Part 2 instead of The Watches Part 2(affordable watches) in which the latter part in bracket can be omitted since it will imply that there appears to be another thread which discusses about non-affordable watch or etc.

hi guys i'm a newbie to watches. Recently wanna search for a decent watch (for my level la, i'm 18 years old). Max budget is 1.2k. Initially i'm interested in Seiko watches but heard of a friend of mine said that it's not worth buying seiko watches because it's overpriced since seiko is spending much more in advertising thus causing overpriced. Is it real?
anyway i'm interested in watches that's non-digital, battery-exchange-free (auto, moon phase, solar drive, whatever)...
Any suggestion would be appreciated... =)

well 1.2k of a seiko kinetic isn't over priced.

seem like you enjoy grand complication. with that Auto or mechanical is a definite no go.

try those Seiko Premier
http://www.seikowatches.com/products/premier/index.html

if U are seeking 1 complication.
try UHR.info the auto chrono is close to your budget, it is German with a swiss heart

not seeking complication alot of brands to choose from esp swiss made and auto.

lol thanks for the suggestion, nice watches~ but are u sure it's under 1.2k? for me i just browse thongsia.com.my for stated reference price in ringgit. By the way i don't really care about the origin or the brand of the watch. i just concern about the quality of the watch that's tough enough to last for a long time. that's why sapphire glass is a plus for me. I really can't stand those scratches on my watch's glass even it's still work perfectly. shakehead.gif
And yeah, the reason for choosing non-battery-exchange-required-watch is because i heard that it's not good to open the cover behind the watch frequently or else it may affect the stuff inside and shorten the lifespan of the watch. is it right? blink.gif

U don't ever open the back of the watches, leave it for the professional.
with mechanical dust may get it and cause issue; water damage easy to fix just send it in to get oil and clean.
with quartz/kinetic not really an issue but if U don't put it back right water can get in and cause issue which may result in replacing the entire circuit.

if it those Seiko Kinetic the capacitor/battery last for ~10yrs b4 U need to change.
for those pure automatic U need get it oil and clean every 5yrs.

they are all Sapphire.

Seiko SNA481 Sportura Men Chronograph ~ 1k
SEIKO PREMIER MULTIFUNCTION SAPPHIRE RETROGRADE SRL021 ~900.
Seiko Premier Chrono Alarm Perpetual SPC051 ~1.2k
SEIKO SPC007P1 VELATURA ALARM CHRONOGRAPH ~1.3k
http://www.uhr.info/products/en/Chronograp...HR/UHR-284.html Oops that I am wrong! it is ~1.6k
http://www.watchseller.com/volovwinmidf.html ~1.2K
http://www.watchseller.com/eposwatches.html cheapest starts at 900 (big sale now else cheapest is 2.7k)

swiss quartz
http://www.christopherward.co.uk/sale/prev...en/nnc4skk.html ~700

Jap - Orient
http://www.orientwatchusa.com/watches.html many within your budget.

1 question...are watches from UHR swiss made? the chrono is using valjuox 7750 but there's not "swiss made" branding on the dial...does that mean the watch doesn't fulfill certain critetias to have the swiss made branding..?

thanks for the useful info~ thumbup.gif Personally i like SRL021 and SPC051. However i have one question here. What's the main difference between metal strap and leather strap? i konw one is made of metal, and one is made of leather biggrin.gif Other differences? for example the durability? lifespan? can't wear leather strap watch during bath or what? because from my experience the holes on the leather strap easily worn off after several years (or even months!). Don't know about the around-1k-grade-watches. Sorry and please don't bother to these noob questions as i'm knowing so little about watches and just started to learn about it... sad.gif

Seiko overpriced? Try look at Tag and other Swiss brand!
Seiko done everything in-house, even down to their own movement oi!
Even Tag (Caliber 1887) is based on Seiko's movement!

hmm so does it mean Swiss brand is generally cheaper? or more worth the price?
And any obvious difference between Swiss watches and Japanese watches? of course la, normally the more bucks u spend the better quality watch u get... For me owning a Swiss watch gives Wow factor to others but besides that? any other reason? hmm.gif

Swiss are generally more expensive...but more expensive doesn't mean better quality...
sometimes japanese quality is far better than swiss..swiss brands has the "wow" factor like you mentioned..
