at the moment i'm keeping a pair of hyllus semi.
Got them to mate 2 days ago.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_xodh0M_fg

Today was one of the most disheartening day for me. In the evening at about 6, i went looking for hyllus in a nearby park and unexpectedly found another hyllus male...large one too. i saw its head just jutting out of a dried leave attached to the underside of a green leaf, pretty close to the ground. but damn, its nest was situated in such a way that it was difficult to encircle it with a large plastic bag which i had due to the leaf branches. and the ground was filled with large leaf litter and also it was situated just beside a slope, with even deeper leaf litter below. it took me half an hour to slowly cut away the leaves blocking my view with scissors and when i tried to slowly put a large plastic bag beneath the nest, it jumped and i lost it in the leaf litter. it was 7.30pm then and i waited almost until dark and still tried to search the litter but in vain. i can attest that the hyllus Semicupreus male is the most difficult jumper i ever tried to find and catch.
All my gear and experience came to nil.

Finding itself is almost an imposibility. I found the one i'm having now by chance when i saw it walking up a lily leaf when i was going to my car at my workplace. other than that, i have only seen it only 3 other times.
1) once as a boy(while still in mps, primary school, i remember) on a tree trunk stump in my grandma's garden. i ran to the kitchen to get a bag, but came back and can't find it again.
2) caught one small one. the one that drank milk in one of my clips
3) i saw one hanging on a tread from a tree at my workplace carpark. a large one. but when it dropped to the ground, it very rapidly jumped towards a very thick hedge and dissappear into it. but because there were people walking up and down that place, sitting nearby, and i was wearing office wear, i didn't want to pursue it.

Catching it is very difficult because

1. it is highly sensitive, just a slight movement of its nest and i saw it gearing to pounch out.
There was no way i could have just cut the leave of its nest and just lift it up like wat we do for fs.
2. it is a master of eluding... going out of view or the other side of a leaf/branch rapidly whenever it sense a movement/shadow
3. its color makes it a master of camouflage among dried leaves/branches
4. it has a powerful jump and would jump consecutively till out of sight/reach(and probably jumping and quickly crawling under the leaf litter to other parts from where it landed)
5. it doesn't appear soon after it jumps into leaf litter, staying put of a long period of time probably due to its sensitive nature.

if only i have a bottle of water then, maybe it could have helped. Damn. otherwise we would be able to see a hyllus semicupreus male vs male square off.

Hallo there VIPER57
This is my current 1st king Durian. He can be considered ML (medium large).
Durian
The spiders of the kakis in this forum are all about this size. For example, Vincent81's Devil.
If you want Vortex to challenge Durian just SMS or call me at my cellphone 84063617.
Fri, Sat or Sun between 3 to 5 pm is OK. Preferably a voideck near your block.
I will bring my camcorder to video the fight.
You can ask your father, uncle or big brother to be present. No problem.

Hi there viper88,
You are right , of course.
But we welcome young people to carry on the fs sport.
There are so few players, nowadays, what with videogames etc.
Not like the old days, when i was in school.

In one of your earlier posts u mentioned seeing a very big fs in a chinese newspaper.
Can you say more about this? what's the story?

i have no idea actually. he is staying in another town from me. my hometown. besides i don't know him.
he is one of the younger ones from a murai fighting group. most of them quite senior, but every weekend without fail, sure got grouping and sure got murai fights. To them, any fight must involve $$, otherwise no point fighting, including fs. Maybe we got kaki here also got place bets but secretive ler...hehe. but its ok with me.
Anyway, i haven't been back to my hometown for quite a while now, so i have no idea of wat's happening there now. but if i have the time, i'll be happy to go check them out.

halo faiz, u have a beautiful hyllus diardi female there! where are u from and where did u manage to find her?

yeah, u can feed ur jumping spider daily or minimum once every 2 days.
i find my hyllus semi will eat flies, small crickets and they seem to love moths.

Make sure u let them drink water EVERYDAY. U can use a spray to mist its enclosure.

And most importantly, make sure ants can't get to its enclosure.
In the beginning of keeping a jumping spider, even if u have ants around, the ants seems not bothered to disturb ur spider but as time goes by when dead insects accumulate in the spider's cage, there's where the danger will come, suddenly the ants start to get attracted to the dead insects and when they start to swarm the cage to try to carry off the dead insects, that's it... ur spider will also become their food. So take heed.

Ya, school days old time alot ppl play. That time I alwys look for my classmate, Saufi to see his fs fight with others.
His FS is the strongest in my school last time. No1 manage to beat his 1st King for many weeks. He kept his 1st king FS inside a round shoe polish case with holes, alwys in the dark.
His FS kinda hyperactive /frenzy type... very alert to its surrounding and when walk, the style like excited as seeing a female or
sensing danger when theres ants around. When saw its opponent, it will quickly rush over and do short arm pushing and close range chop as tho hunting for food.
Mindstorm still remember Hope and Xinan? Both FS like very frenzied active type and sprint walking when i take them out to fight with Jack and Bro1 at Tasik Perdana.
Exactly same like Saufi FS.. like on bloodlust mode.

Most of his challenger fs either injured badly or get eaten during fight coz they continue to have rd2, rd3 fight till KO.
The good fighters can continuous fight again eventho lost the 1st round. Wont become kecut easily, tats why theres alot
long fierce fight and most of time theres fatality. Saufi also likes to challenges his opponent FS to fight inside folded leaf press seal the rear exit with his 1st king.
He will allow his challenger fs go into the fold leaf 1st.. den later he will let his fs go inside to fight. Sort of giving advantage to his challenger FS. brows.gif
When both the FS fought inside the leaf, Saufi will alwys make funny sound.. Drrr..Drrr..Drrr..Drr.. as both fs arm pushing each other till the loser FS will get chased out.
There are times the fight was so long and none of the FS come out from the leaf hole..... unsure.gif When open up, see his fs already killed its oppenent. sweat.gif

Normal FS were sold about rm0.50 tat time. Those good fighters can fetch about RM1 and top grade FS king sold for about $2 - 3 if my memory din fail me.

Abt the chinese newspaper write up on FS, tat time i was in secondary school.
I don't know read chinese but my mother told me its about the small town area chinese ppl playing fs in Malaysia. Cant remember which town.. maybe its Muar... Have few pics in the write up. Pic show 2 FS fight (like the one we play), pic with ppl watching fs fight and One of the pic tat caught my attention the most shows a large size FS with fat abdomen and very thick arms.
The FS have the same stripes but at the same time look very different compare to other FS. at 1st i think its a female FS because fat abdomen size but that FS pic have long thick arms (look like crab arm), which i never saw bfr in a normal fs arm size. Its like 3X thicker than normal FS arm size! Its arms size also much thicker and bigger than its own legs size!!

I ask my mother what the write up says about that special spider pic... she said tat spider in the picture is the champion/ KING, never lost before to other FS at that area, it is also the biggest FS and quite old already. I said to myself, sure la.. see its damn thick arms. During fight, other FS sure get flip or push far away. Its abdomen oso so fat and heavy, other fs where got chance to push it backwards.. laugh.gif Even Titan/ Yuda subspecies spider arms also not as thick as tat FS arms!

I did cut and keep the newspaper tat time but after several room cleaning and move to new house i cant remember where i keep it anymore..
Till now i still find it very odd about tat FS thick arm. Sometimes i feel maybe because the pic taken is very close-up pic make it look bigger... but how come its other legs in the pic look normal size? I really cant find a good answer except tat FS really have damn THICK ARMS and most likely its very large size tats why...

Faiz's Hyllus is not fully grown yet, IMHO. It will get bigger. Beautiful spider.

Nice video of H. Semi mating. I think some types of jumping spider females don't put up a fight like the Thianias do. Even golden spider (Ligurra latidens) females willingly let the males mate them.

So take heed.

hey guys!
yesterday i went to frim an hunt fs and i caught 4 females and 2 males!
i let go 3 females and 1 male because small size.
but guess what, the female was as big as an earphone!!
well i let go of her coz i dont like to catch females.
i named the male Samurai.
i didnt let it go.
u know why??
bcoz when i let Samurai fight my Vortex,
samurai almost won!
But no spider can deafeat Vortex's chopping skills!! rclxms.gif rclxms.gif
first they were pushing each other,
then Vortex backed off and suddenly chopped Samurai!!
well, of course Samurai ran away!
but bad news.
Samurai escaped just now.
sad.gif sad.gif
well bye Samurai i will miss you!! bye.gif

well at least i still have my Vortex and my Teleport.
i always train my fs like this:whenever my fs wins a fight, i give it an ant or a treat.

I always train Vortex like this.
btw, how do you guys train your fs??

does milk give more energy to fs??

my friend tried giving his fs Power Root to drink. is it good for fs?
bcoz when his fs, Leaf Hunter fought Vortex, his fs had more energy.
but did not win Vortex.

WOW seems like no other fs can win Vortex! ohmy.gif wacko.gif shocking.gif shocking.gif flex.gif
