Hallo all FS bros!

Long time never post. Busy with this and that. First time on this new thread, thanks to Razor Fang!
It seems we just been through a very low key period. Weather very hot, most of the bros i know not playing.
Lucky got new players. Welcome to Fendi and friends, welcome to Kamal, and welcome to Jay and colleague!
Yesterday took time off and went to the usual place. Wah! Construction going on, not on the CB leaves side but on the opposite side.
Hope the fs population not badly affected.... Caught 2 ML. Went to compare with Ura's fs.
"Durian" slightly smaller than Royal, same size as Shadow. "Chendol" same size as Copper.
This sunday maybe meetup with any bros to challenge the fs. Time and place confirm saturday....

Good Luck and Good hunting to all!!!!!

Hallo there Mangrovejumper!

Wah! Wherever you travel you manage to catch a jumper!
First Hawaii, now Australia. You have the luck of a true fighting spider enthusiast.
The one from Hawaii definitely looked like a Thania subopressa.
Check out the link below for pics of jumpers that look like the one from Australia, by Jerzy Proszynski.
I got it by googling "jumping spiders".
http://www.gsd-salt.miiz.waw.pl/search_distribution.php
http://www.gsd-salt.miiz.waw.pl/search_images.php.
Your jumper looks like an Opisthoncus or Simaetha.
I wonder how the experts classify them? To me jumpers have fuzzy palps or don't, hah hah!

FS Bros! Look at these kangs from Borneo and Bali at the same website (choose "Thania" at the genus menu)

http://www.gsd-salt.miiz.waw.pl/img.php?id=16075&s_id=

You can see the Borneo jungle in the background! I would like to catch him!

http://www.gsd-salt.miiz.waw.pl/img.php?id=16077&s_id=

This is a lam (blue) pow!!! The photogrpher also show the type of vegetation in the background, thanks!

Added on July 18, 2010, 7:52 pmToday's story.

3pm.
The sky was heavy with dark clouds.
Ura and I went up to PA and met Yuda and Eugene, who had been hunting there already for a few hours.
We brought out our fs to compare size. Just at this time Ken25 and friend arrived.
Now it was confirmed. Ura's Royal and Yuda's 1st king are both L-size, maybe could compare with Termy, even Titan.
It was starting to drizzle a liitle and I was wondering whether to call it a day when Vincent arrived.
That made it a total of 7 kakis. We decided to fight the fs. Ura recorded a number of good matches.
But just as Yuda's 1st king challenged mine, Durian, it started to rain heavily.
We ran for cover....
Later, when the rain let up we went home.

End of today's story.

Next weekend: Meet at NTU to challenge Ah Kim and Peter (aka Buaya).
(Maybe only, have to confirm).

Yo bros,

Tomorrow Sunday 2pm at NT*, if u are free. Hope not raining.....

Added on July 25, 2010, 11:32 pmSunday 3pm
It was hot and sunny.
Peter (aka Buaya), Vincent, Ah Ong (Ken25's friend), Ura, the Pakcekop Clan
and Jong met at NT* to fight their fs. The matches were recorded by Ura.
From what i can see, right now the 3 biggest spiders are Ura's Royal, Ah Ong's Rocketman and Yuda's 1st King.
Fendi and Jong also talked about Rashif's Ironman (see video posted by Ura at post #12). He was a very good fighter, like TFM, Bullet and BoomBoom.
Undefeated in his prime.

Later Ura and Jong travelled in Inn's van to a spider lily area off Lim Chu Kang road where Inn caught and released a spider
about the size of Royal some time ago. We saw a number of M-size kangs. Ura kept one for sparring.
Next time we will try here again for L-size.....

Okay, that's it from Jong for now.

Good Luck to everyone!!!!!

Hallo there VIPER57
This is my current 1st king Durian. He can be considered ML (medium large).
Durian
The spiders of the kakis in this forum are all about this size. For example, Vincent81's Devil.
If you want Vortex to challenge Durian just SMS or call me at my cellphone 84063617.
Fri, Sat or Sun between 3 to 5 pm is OK. Preferably a voideck near your block.
I will bring my camcorder to video the fight.
You can ask your father, uncle or big brother to be present. No problem.

QUOTE(mindstorm @ Aug 5 2010, 02:19 AM)
at the moment i'm keeping a pair of hyllus semi.
Got them to mate 2 days ago.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_xodh0M_fg

Today was one of the most disheartening day for me. In the evening at about 6, i went looking for hyllus in a nearby park and unexpectedly found another hyllus male...large one too. i saw its head just jutting out of a dried leave attached to the underside of a green leaf, pretty close to the ground. but damn, its nest was situated in such a way that it was difficult to encircle it with a large plastic bag which i had due to the leaf branches. and the ground was filled with large leaf litter and also it was situated just beside a slope, with even deeper leaf litter below. it took me half an hour to slowly cut away the leaves blocking my view with scissors and when i tried to slowly put a large plastic bag beneath the nest, it jumped and i lost it in the leaf litter. it was 7.30pm then and i waited almost until dark and still tried to search the litter but in vain. i can attest that the hyllus Semicupreus male is the most difficult jumper i ever tried to find and catch.
All my gear and experience came to nil.

Finding itself is almost an imposibility. I found the one i'm having now by chance when i saw it walking up a lily leaf when i was going to my car at my workplace. other than that, i have only seen it only 3 other times.
1) once as a boy(while still in mps, primary school, i remember) on a tree trunk stump in my grandma's garden. i ran to the kitchen to get a bag, but came back and can't find it again.
2) caught one small one. the one that drank milk in one of my clips
3) i saw one hanging on a tread from a tree at my workplace carpark. a large one. but when it dropped to the ground, it very rapidly jumped towards a very thick hedge and dissappear into it. but because there were people walking up and down that place, sitting nearby, and i was wearing office wear, i didn't want to pursue it.

Catching it is very difficult because

1. it is highly sensitive, just a slight movement of its nest and i saw it gearing to pounch out.
There was no way i could have just cut the leave of its nest and just lift it up like wat we do for fs.
2. it is a master of eluding... going out of view or the other side of a leaf/branch rapidly whenever it sense a movement/shadow
3. its color makes it a master of camouflage among dried leaves/branches
4. it has a powerful jump and would jump consecutively till out of sight/reach(and probably jumping and quickly crawling under the leaf litter to other parts from where it landed)
5. it doesn't appear soon after it jumps into leaf litter, staying put of a long period of time probably due to its sensitive nature.

if only i have a bottle of water then, maybe it could have helped. Damn. otherwise we would be able to see a hyllus semicupreus male vs male square off.

Walao mindstorm,
your Hyllus semi looks like a tough cuctomer.
Just revisited the earliest postings. back in 2008 u and viper88 were very active.
By the way what about the story of the seremban "powfu wong"?
Is he still active? does he have any kingkong pows?

Hi there viper88,
You are right , of course.
But we welcome young people to carry on the fs sport.
There are so few players, nowadays, what with videogames etc.
Not like the old days, when i was in school.

In one of your earlier posts u mentioned seeing a very big fs in a chinese newspaper.
Can you say more about this? what's the story?

i have no idea actually. he is staying in another town from me. my hometown. besides i don't know him.
he is one of the younger ones from a murai fighting group. most of them quite senior, but every weekend without fail, sure got grouping and sure got murai fights. To them, any fight must involve $$, otherwise no point fighting, including fs. Maybe we got kaki here also got place bets but secretive ler...hehe. but its ok with me.
Anyway, i haven't been back to my hometown for quite a while now, so i have no idea of wat's happening there now. but if i have the time, i'll be happy to go check them out.

that would be interesting........

i doubt so. the female looks very female to me. besides that head pattern is quite common.
i found that head pattern alone is not a very reliable way to determine a fs because
1. it can look different at different angles
2. it can change over time
3. many fs have similar head patterns

it is only be useful if it is sufficiently different between 2 fs that we want to fight. if you would to expose a fs to a large group of other fs, i think judging from head pattern alone, it would be able difficult to pick it out. usually we would rely on other characteristics too, like abdomen size, overall size, overall lightness darkness etc
*
Yeah, guess you're right. Checked out one of your earlier postings showing subadult male that later moulted.
The pedipalp end was much thicker....No wonder the bu did'nt moult into a kang when i kept before releasing....

how do you check the age of an fs??

and what is teeth grinding? hmm.gif
*
In the wild newly moulted (younger) fs look bright and shiny, the legs tend to have many tiny "white spots".
This is because their "skin" is new.
Older ones are generally darker, having moulted some time ago, their "skin" have aged.

What do you mean "teeth grinding"? You can grind your teeth by moving your lower jaw and rubbing them against each other....
I suppose some people sharpen fighting dogs teeth by grinding them, but not for fs.....

============================================================================

Today went to NT* and met Peter (aka Buaya).
Strangely it rained on my journey but when i reached NT* it was not raining.
Recorded these matches

Warm Up matches (short)
Jong's Chendo vs Pete's (aka Buaya) Naga won

Good Luck to everyone!!!!!

btw, the new Vortex died. cry.gif  cry.gif  cry.gif

the hole fighting stage fell down and smashed him cry.gif  cry.gif

next time i must be extra careful in handling fs.

well, i need to get ANOTHER replacement for Vortex.(which will also be named Vortex tongue.gif )

yeah.

well just like what Urahinuk said, "time will heal the pain"......

now i am keeping a female, Strawberry and 2 males, Onejaw and Foxtail.

i thought of breeding them.  but how do i get them to mate??  brows.gif
*
Sorry to read about Vortex.
Don't worry. You will catch a big replacement soon. Just a matter of time.....
Hah! You are even better than me at the fs sport when i was your age.
here's a story.
i remember having a medium green fs that challenged another boy's.
this boy had a small red metal box punctured with holes where he kept all his fs.
when he opened the box i could see he had yam leaves cut to fit the box.
the top yam leaf had a square doorway cut in the middle.
from this doorway appeared a jet black fs slightly bigger than mine. it was quite slow becoz old.
we put the 2 fs on the cover of the box.
my fs advanced. his retreated -a gostan pow.
they met near the edge of the box cover and started pushing.
then 1 chop followed by a second chop. now pushing with arms outstretched.
3 chops, 4 chops.
his fs ran!
mine had won!
that was my first fs victory!
before that my fs always lost to others.
but my fs was not the school king. he lost to another bigger, blue fs after only pushing....

mindstorm,
the body shape of the unknown species looks more like a thiania fs than the hyllus semi.
in fact, except for its color and its face not being white it could be the kingkong pow!
i wonder if its genus is thiania??

i'm pretty certain it is not a bhamoensis.
the "forearms" are too short for a fs white face male....

Ah Kim, Vincent, Seng, Pete (aka Bakya), his son and Jong met at NT* at around 3pm.
Pete (aka Bakya aka Buaya) brought out the biggest fs, the L-size Zoro, bigger than Jong's Durian.
i think same size as Vincent's L-size and Ura's Royal.
We had a number of matches.
Seng, as usual, produced the top fighters. His fs won all their matches. The best was one caught at Changi....

Matches (sorry, can't remember whose is whose so just post by number) :
Match 1
Match 2
Match 3
Match 4
Match 5
Match 6
Match 7

At first i thought these bugs were caught in a spider's web, but no, they are just big mosquitoes(?)
hanging together. There must be spiders quite happy to take a bite at them, like chickens or ducks hanging at the makan stall.

Big Mosquitoes Hanging Together??

These 2 predators below sure would find them juicy :

Looks like a Female Telamonia Di in her tent of silk/mosquito netting.

This weird spider was caught by Ura when we went to Bukit Timah recently (post #141).
We used a method he learned when observing a few old timers many years ago.
A styrofoam box (white) was placed under thick bushes and these bushes were shaken.
The results were startling.
Foliage that seemed devoid of animal life suddenly rained all sorts of invertebrates.
Caterpillars, centipedes, ants, grasshoppers, aphids, beetles and many types of spiders large and small, including fs.
Thanks to your reference to HK Tang's webpage the spider is ID as a Portia Labiata....
