if u try to make a living out of DJ-ing , obviously u have to play what people want to listen ... u can't go wrong with top 40 hits , or top 100 hits
if u DJ-ing out of your own passion for music, then you mix the type of songs u want to listen ... and there will be people who listen to the same type of music will support you

we cannot tell you what to mix
only u yourself can tell yourself what u want to mix

if u ask me, .. those fengtau lala song = easy to mix .. smile.gif cuz every sound it makes , is a beat smile.gif

Congratulations on the continuation of this thread!

BTW, want to ask you turntablists something.

Are any of you doing DJ or beat production work for rock bands? Something like Slipknot or Linkin Park?

Might want to start a project along those lines...... tongue.gif

I am scratching for my band as well. Kinda like linkin park la. I have a sequencer which I control which put out some beats and stuff also. Or some samples which are good to go.

Above all, I think Dj's should know how to program songs for playing which is for the ultimate purpose of entertaining your audience. Heck I could be programming a playlist on my ipod which might get more audiences than a dj whom is creating a beat on a mpc in a club.
With all the technicalities involved in the field today, we can easily get lost by trying too hard to do the same thing, which in my opinion is akin to reinventing the wheel. Some might boast in the ability or the technicality of laying down 16 tracks on the sequencer in abelton, but at the end of the day find that he/ she has less audiences and bookings than a dj that only uses those 8 track tapes or cassette. Why might that be? I would probably think that the latter dj has got his/her priorities right.

are you saying the sl1300 is damn old or is it the sl1200? Anything since 2005 can't be considered that old right? Unless you're talking about techno music.

first of all , playing guitar and changing to turntablism is totally two different thing
in turntablism , there is no Chords or anything to follow ...you just need to "feel" around ..and get the right feel

do u know what's involved in turntablism? mixing DJ in clubs and turntablism is quite a different thing
DJ-ing in club = spinning and mixing musics
Turntablism = alot to do with spinning mixing , and technical skills for PRESENTATION ..or should i say .. to "show off" your skills

turntablism means u need turntables
u can't just use turntables to make your music ,but u will a mixer with that..
a turntable only can produce musics, beats using traditional record make out of vinyl .. which we call Vinyl Records.

summary = turntables + mixer + vinyl records

turntables = usually technics .. cost about RM1500-300 each
mixer = ranging from 1.5K to 5K depending on the functionality u need
vinyl records = RM60 to RM150 per record and it's hard to find in malaysia
DVS = Digital Vinyl System = about RM2.5K to 3K ... one off price .. after that u just need a laptop and alot of mp3 download ..smile.gif

depending on what you want to do in your setup
if your kind of style / music require the kaoss pad , then it's essential only to you
what you need does not reflect what every1 else need ... and vice versa

wow , u got a long way to turntablism .
i don't even consider this as basic knowledge
u r asking like .. what's a GUITAR and a BENJO ..
it's two different equipment but does the same thing

one is using those old black vinyl record .."piring hitam"
and the other .. using CD ....

i think you should do more "homework" first before trying your hands at turntablism ..

before u jump into buying gears, u must ask yourself
do u really have the knowledge to even start it off?
do u want to use vinyl? or cd?

don't just jump into something that you yourself not even sure what it is all about ...

for turntablism .. the word turntable is in there
so it's up to you
most turntablist .... started on turntables.. and some move on to CDJ ...

i myself personally like the vinyl feel ...

what do u want to achieve? scratching? or mixing like those in club dj?

I started on cdjs and now I am going back to vinyl.
You could have the option of using dvs (digital simulated vinyls) so you dont have to buy vinyls.

here in Malaysia used gears also expensive :/
unlike the western counterparts...nak pakai duit ptptn beli gears? wishful thinking..

i only can afford those gears after working hard for at least 1.5 years..and that's basic 2 cdj & a vestax mixer.
slowly from there i learned them inside out & adding more devices to my rig...every bonus received comes new gear biggrin.gif

Sorry for the earlier "polluted" post , but i think there is no wrong to do a correction on other people mixes right ? here you go ,

ORIGINAL :

Own City ( Original 90 BPM )
Blah Blah ( Original 120 BPM )
TiK ToK ( Original 120BPM )

Correction By ApexiTrust :

http://soundcloud.com/blackberryx3/correction << click here
i had do a correction of the mix using the same song but different mixing style , but i still
ino idea how the video owner mix a 90BPM ( Own City ) song into 120BPM ( Blah Blah Blah ) , he really need to study more about music common sense before making a DEMONSTRATION , i believe my current post got no offense and contain tips to some beginner around . Cheers

P/s : Fireflies Owl City Whose Mix Yeah ?

It seems obvious that who's the one that's trying to pollute this topic.
Talking bout common sense, making so many accounts is not going to help, you cant hide who you are, the way to type, everyone knows.
As for the songs I used for 90bpm to 120 bpm or whatsoever, was experimental during that time.
And I still dont get what your trying to say bout the Owl City thing? If your looking for the song its Fireflies - Owl City (Encore ft Eminem,Dr Dre and 50 Cent). Read the description @@

Audio tip of the day.

When having mulitple outputs volume controls (I.e. plugging in your laptop to your PA system or computer speakers) make sure you know where you would be spending most of your time controlling the sound. (e.g. I want to be constantly adjust the volume at the laptop)

Next adjust all other volume knobs to be max or ...near max like on the speakers. Thus you will only have to adjust the volume at your windows media player with maximum given headroom.

There are of course variations to this.
See flow chart below,
Win media player > sound card driver (that speaker icon on the toolbar in win) > speaker. So now I have 3 volume knobs to play with. How should I adjust the volume?

Supposing you have this scenario as follows; You have adjusted both the speaker and the sound card vol to be max, and when you adjust the vol of the media player, it seems to be really sensitive, and each mm of movement gives you a BIG variation in sound levels.

Do this, maximize the volume at the speaker, set the volume at the win media player to 8/10th to max and then adjust the sound card volume to the loudest degree of volume you want to listen to and then leave it there. Now you should just adjust the volume on your media player. There you have your own graduated scale of volume.

Reasoning behind this

One reason to be controlling the volume at the singular source in this instance it is via the media player, is because we would want to reduce possibilities of clipping, and try to eliminate the chance of arithmetic saturation as far as possible. We have heard plenty of the case of digital amplification. Essentially in the above chain of audio, we have 1 digital or software amplification and 2 analogue amplifications. The drivers in the bottom right hand (speaker icon) is a software which controls the circuitry and the op-amps in the sound card, so that counts as analogue. This is also the case with the amplifier circuits in the speakers, where the signal input is controlled before the transistors.

Okay, what is digital amplification?
Consider a 16bit sampled at 44.1kHz (CD quality) audio source. What this means is simply a particular amplitude of sound has been chopped into 65,536 (2^16) parts (samples). And with that we have a range between 0 to 65,536 that which the volume (amplitude) of music/ sound can be expressed in. Assume we have a signal of 300 parts. How the software/ digital amplification would amplify the sound is via adding a part into each 300 parts. But the dangerous part about digital amplification is that once it has reached its threshold of 65,536 parts, the signal would square off creating a clipped signal which brings forth distortion as the amplifier is overdriven and attempts to deliver an output voltage or current beyond its maximum power capability.

Therefore, we would see into effect that effectively by only making the software amplification a variable, we can essentially reduce possibilities of clipping, as we would only drive the other amps in contingent to the amplifications made in the software and we also have the extra headroom to vary the sound given by the 2 other amps.

Would the cheapest solution to start DJing be 2x turntables, mixer, laptop & serato? CDJs are just so expensive!

i reckon the cheapest alternative would be laptop + midi controller(Numark Omni Control)..
most midi controllers like omni control comes together with Traktor.

Do note that this method also works on pro pa systems, where the amps after the crossover do go full. The gain knob acts as a sensitivity knob for the faders.

might i add the bcd3000 has an inbuilt soundcard which has 1 xlr in, 1 phono in, 1 rca in (line lvl), one headphone out and one master rca out. The soundcard itself is quite impressive and worth its price. The omni control doesn't have an inbuit soundcard. And you'll probably have to get an extra soundcard. NI audio 2 itself retails for?

You can do mixing & scratching with just turntables and with DVS you won't have to buy vinyl anymore. Just pay to download. I'm just talking about the most basic way to do things.

The soundcard itself is quite impressive and worth its price. The omni control doesn't have an inbuit soundcard. And you'll probably have to get an extra soundcard. NI audio 2 itself retails for?
*
hi mate..
i thought that the omni control comes with the built in soundcard?
and the stealth control was the one without the soundcard..
last time i checked, the omni control is about 2K or so..

I guess you can use the bcd3000 like a serato scratch live box as well. You can plug in 2 turntables with time-coded vinyls and use it like a dvs system.

definitely worth every cent. wouldnt have sold mine if i wasnt buying cdjs.
great to chuck into your bag for gigs n stuff. you know it wont fall apart when you get there.
has a really weighty feel to it. mostly metal cept for the knobs, faders & jogwheels.
buttons have nice feel to them too and yeah it does come with an inbuilt soundcard. you can use it straight out of the box with the included traktor le.

fairly idiot-proof too. just plug n play. biggrin.gif

can definitely be mapped to traktor pro. but you gotta do all the mappings yourself. or you could just get one of those custom .tsi files for premapped controls on the NI forums.

hi guys i just got something on my mind about this kinda hairwire cheap dvs setup....any idea?

this is my " hmm.gif 2 cent oppinion" only...

pros:
-8 deck simultaniosly (4 left/4right if using traktor)
-backup plan if lappy suddenly get hang
-i'm assume thats no lagging
-cheap s/card setup

cons:
-need alot of power supply (2 lappy,1 mixer,2 deck)

err..anyone had tried or tested this theory? can share some oppinion..

1 good lappie makes more sense than 2 average lappies.. as long as ur laptop is good, dont worry about crashing it.. i had sessions with tsp that lasted for 5-6 straight hours without a glitch.. plus with 2 laptops u have to have ur track collection in 2 separate hd, like u said, too much mess with not much advantage..

Assuming you're doing this in an external mixing mode,
Unless you use each output of the ufo202 as a mono, then you can have 4 decks max. Unless you get 4 ufo202 then you can probably can have 8 decks.
You'll probably have some hassle syncing the midi clocks of both laptops. latency issues and drifts as well as cache issues. You'll need another midi wire for this.

Unless you'll be doing an internal mixing mode, you'll need some controllers for both sides as well.

Its quite a hassle to setup in clubs where time space constrains are rather a big issue.

What are you gonna load in 8 decks?
In terms of producers making a song out of many tracks, you'll have to make sure any instruments dont clash too much in the freq spectrum or you'll have some issues of stuff sounding really jarring, superpositioning. Thats why we send busses to compress them using parametric specific compressors. Since this is using traktor pro, I dont think we'll be using samples of instruments, unless of course you're doing something minimalistic, but since you're doing that you should really use abelton instead. plus this is where traktor really comes short. djing is really abt using pre-recorded stuff. and those producer/ dj stuff like deadmau5 have the flexibility of routing stuff through compression which is rather important when mixing more than 4 decks. Then again the issue of a turntable timecodes controlling 4 decks. focus switching is gonna be quite complicated.

Backup? use the club's cdj.

thanks for sharing opinion.
now assuming no midi for this setup,no auto sync..just like those old school mixing.
but i'm thinking about hdisk sync (sharing file within 2 lappy) izzit possible?
backup? if using just only 2xcdj(with timecode)because i'm no more burning audio cds..

then I really dont see the relevance in using 2 laptops. seriously.

hdd sync? not possible. unless you use 1 pc as a server and open an ad-hoc network with your other pc with a cat5e cross-over cable or via wireless lan.

CD's wont cost you much, especially if you live in KL area, its even cheaper. 2 lappys are really..troublesome and it consumes lots of space. So it would be best to use just 1 good lappy, if possible without one, it saves space =D

how often have you spun 20,000 tracks during your gigs? this is where preparation comes in. listen, learn and have a feel for all your tracks. then burn what you know you'll definitely play.

no point burning so many tracks if you're not gonna use them anyway

yeap...but peoples in club is not the same person everyday...sometimes alot of request & too many genre to keep inside cd bag..my issue on burning into 1 cd takes time to remastering, normalizing n equeing.also those day having a bad experience lost my 4 cd bag + hdphone someone break my car window..

i dont see the point in having 8 decks unless you're layering techno beats on top of one another like hawtin or dubfire does. thats where the two laptop setup comes in.

but if you're just mixing commercial crap then i think its just not worth the effort

in that case , just ignore song request , i bet a night in club the routine is same , just whack idiot gaga , timbaland , akon , pitbull , homo bieber and those upstream club song , i believe u know the routine after several visit to clubs . And yeah after u work in this industry i believe u will sick of carrying loads of things . Like me , my bag inside contain m15x , ttm57sl , hd25mk2 , ortofon stylus , and some back up of cd's in case serato breakdown ( so far not even once ) . Usually i arrive club earlier for sound check and lepak there . For normal dj set , i will see how the club goes , usually use CD . For DVJ set i must use ttm57sl . however turntable still have the best feeling , midi is just a toy for me . For beginners i suggest start from TT > CDJ > MIDI . no point straight start from midi .

thats not entirely true. with the sort of technology out there, you dont really need turntables anymore. a pair of X1s hooked up to traktor connected to a proper mixer and you're all set.

with controllers, the only limit is your imagination.

having said that, if you plan on becoming a turntablist or sumthn then yeah i guess you do need some basic knowledge. otherwise dont bother.

beatmatching is a skill. not an artform. just cos you can beatmatch doesnt mean you're gonna have a great set.

it just means you can get 2 records spinning together at the same speed. hooray

check out dubfire's timewarp 2010 set. might keep you laughing for bout an hour or so.

whether he knows how to use tts or not is immaterial. its the fact that he ditched the "traditional setup" in favour of his current setup.
so you're saying once you've made it big you can get away with auto-sync
but if you're just starting out then its frowned upon? what kinda logic is that.

a dj's job is to entertain a crowd. nobody gives a shit if you can beatmatch the hell out of 2 records. cool.gif

Yeah, its like..the most affordable kit after cdj800. Since cdj2k is so exp =D
*
if talking about the original cdj1000 1st gen, for sure they're lot cheaper than new 800mk2.
but the 1000mk3, although dropping in price since the release of 2000 so very hard to get...it's almost legendary!
same like technics 1210mk2 with original cover & headshell.

still struggling to get another TT though...

another question, is it advisable buying TT from nearby country like Philippines & Singapore, then ship them to M'sia?
shipping costs may be cheaper than buying from US...

all im tryina say is that with the wealth of options available to us right now, beatmatching isnt really that necessary. you can let the software handle that part while you get creative with your mix. sheesh shocking.gif

you could have a maschine hooked up to ableton or a faderfox to traktor or apc40 controlling loops, etc....

you dont necessarily have to go the TT>CDJ>controller path anymore. you can jump straight to wtv you feel suits your style the best.

if talking about the original cdj1000 1st gen, for sure they're lot cheaper than new 800mk2.
but the 1000mk3, although dropping in price since the release of 2000 so very hard to get...it's almost legendary!
same like technics 1210mk2 with original cover & headshell.

still struggling to get another TT though...
another question, is it advisable buying TT from nearby country like Philippines & Singapore, then ship them to M'sia?
shipping costs may be cheaper than buying from US...
*
So its hard to get a cdj1k? How bout cdj900?

Yeah most softwares have the sync button now. But beatmatchin is still necessary for people that don't prefer lappys

I agree with firtthegreat on this one. In my opinion, beatmatching is just a means to achieve something. Which I view as a skillset which might be no longer relavant depending on what you use.

i think u guys totally not understanding the term of 'beat matching" and "bar counting" and the whole process about it

the sync button can only help u to match two songs to the same BPM , but they cannot help you to match your bars ...u still need to identify the bars in song.
if u just mix BPM , u won't have a smooth transition from one song to another if u can't beat match to the bars.

the sync button..
genius function for djs or the start of downfall of djs..
with the sync function intact, anyone and everyone can simply beatmatch a song with a touch of a button..
the once "most important" factor is no longer relevant anymore.

I do sell other brands la. Like stagg, samson, sonor and brand new pioneer cdjs. 2nd hand market for dj gears in malaysia is quite rare, you'll only find them in this marketplace at the garage place there.

perhaps to find the proper cue to the song at the first beat or whatever preference of the deejay itself..
to beatmatch without using the sync button and bar counting and going into the next song at perfect timing..
missing it at the perfect point of enter the song would make things harder for the dj to wait for the next few bars to enter..which i personally feel is the challenging part..which makes not using the sync button a very important factor to be a dj..

Added on June 2, 2010, 2:48 pmbtw..i'm not saying using the sync button is wrong or unethical for a fact..i'm just saying that beatmatching without the use of the sync would make things more challenging..makes deejaying one bit more fun..
crowd might not know half the things you do behind the decks..but other djs might..even so...most importantly is the personal pleasure playing a perfect set knowing that one did not use the sync button..

just my 2 cents...

i thought the most important thing would be to entertain the crowd. make sure they have a good time and shit.

if you're using the sync feature to get 2 records spinning together then its pointless. but if you can utilise the sync feature to enhance your set some how then why not embrace it. i.e connecting ableton to traktor, etc..

i dont know why its still considered taboo. kinda reminds me of the vinyls vs cds debate not too long ago. blush.gif

i got both ..
m447 - turntablist needle .. not really suitable for club mixing .. but for scratching and all the other rough stuff is good

ortofon has alot of range ...personally i have the scratch needle .. *pink color* .. same .. mainly for scratching ...

both good needles but ortofon cost a bomb ...

shure more commonly available ...compare to ortofon * i think *

if i not mistaken last time i sms burger at excessive record .. it cost like RM800 or something like that ..

its the same argument as why learn long division if we have calculators now, we still get the answer.. or why we need to take driving license test using manual car if we only plan to use auto cars..

yes, together with DJM-350 which will be going to be released soon.
usb record feature in DJM 350 sounds interesting

So its only compatible with DJM350? What I'd like to know is, whether the CDJ can be played even without lappys. Have any idea about that speed? Please tell me

Behringer products are alright, but its really much more cheaper den CDJ's. You CAN get Behringer stuff, but I'll still consider. If I'm you I'd go with CDJ's.

QUOTE(apexitrust @ Jun 5 2010, 04:35 PM)
dont waste money on that , save ur ass up for Pioneer ( CDJ , DJM ) , Technics ( Turntables ) , Rane / Traktor ( DVS ) , buy that and no more upgrade needed . Looking for 2nd hand shure-m44-7 anyone have that ?

Agreed.

pretty decent 4 channel mixer if you're on a budget. has tons of effects, though most of em are pretty pointless anyway.
layout is pretty similar to a djm600 so you wont have any familiarity issues with it.

I'm not a DJ per say but am producing and tracking tunes for a Canadian Progressive Trance record company and also producing tunes for our local DJ's as well.

Recently purchased an Access Virus Ti Desktop TI. A highly sort after equipment i have been looking into.

For EDM producers, the sound is amazing and this is one beauty to behold.

From Gareth Emery, PVD, Armin Van Buuren, Above & Beyond etc..these top EDM producers uses Access Virus exclusively.

Sorry for the blur picture.

Well, i recently purchased it like 2 days ago hence i have not dive into those OSC yet. I reckon the Hypersaw in the OSC is good but still need loads of time to learn and make full use of those filters. OSC etc. Btw.

Waldorf Largo is very useful for EDM too.

It's more for music production purpose for Movie soundtracks, Dance music etc. The turntable units will help you to develop your DJ skills but many are going into music production as they can produce their own EDM and spin their tunes in clubs.

Wow..that's a long time ago. Current bass is G&L 2500L. Great bass tone.

I'm using Logic Pro 8 & 9. Was using Logic (which was called Emagic) since version 2.0 back in those early days. Will be getting Albeton soon if my cash flow permits.

Hope to see catch up with you mate. Do PM me your number and we can hangout at mamak after the event if we're not to tired.

A DJ is a DJ but if he or she decides to pick up music arrangement or music production, then he's more knowledgable in what the audience wants to hear and he can then decide to make his/her own tunes to chater to the audience.

I'm a music arranger/producer but ain't no DJ. But i'm learning what famous DJ producers produces in thier studio hence i can make tunes for our local/overseas DJ to play in their set.

I reckon current new DJ's did not go thru the things most hardworking DJ's goes thru back in the early days. It was tough to be a DJ in our local clubs unless you have the upper hand skills.

Anyway, whoever thinks they are good or a pro but with a lousy attitude, they will never go far. I know Jungle Jerry personally and man, he has such good attitude, humble and even tho he's well known as an MOS DJ, he does not brag about his Djing skills. He even show me a thing or 2.

LanEVOchris, maybe you need to help educate them new blood well and yes, new DJ's bad mouthing others is not welcome and should not do that. Why bad mouth others when you can place your attention to improving your DJing skills right?

davidgary73 point proved. Im a living evidence for that guy who talked bad about me to see and regret. And thank god i had friends to show me whats what and hows how to deal turntables n cdjs rather than talking bad about me. Apexitrust and procontavia has definitely helped, but someone else here got jealous...

And yea i know tasha and sam personally. Same genre kaki...

we should learn from each other not b****ing each other to improve. Basically even a pro been through their noob days so why judge and talk bad about other's skill? Even I using Virtual DJ only, there are soooo many things you guys mentioned and I dont know what is that, example EDM? and some code program.. totally no idea..

PEACE OUT!!

The only way i mix is with the simple automix button, mind sharing how u do your mix vincez? I see some of them can make the dot dot always same so no lari beat, but the automix there simple one button just click and let it mix..

*
no matter how u release it , u still have to adjust a little .. and usually to get the rhythm right , then you just have to scratch to the beat you are trying to mix in
and when the time comes, u let it go ...

that's why you see hiphop dj , sometimes they do those scratches over the current song ...not only showmanship but that's to get the rhythm and the beat right ...
then u just let it spin ....

i mean using vinyl turntables not VCI-300 , vci-300 is just for me to pratice my scratch and portable set up cause my classmate parents has a boat that cost a million AUD , we always have party at there but everytime have to rent turntables , each time cost 600AUD =\ . Anyway i still dont dare do like some hiphop dj do , when they release the vinyl they straight put the crossfader in the middle , and it is on beat without adjust

Good to finally meet up with you and hope to meet up again soon on the next upcoming event. Met up with Fono as well.

Anyway, Above & Beyond was great but the sound system was unsatisfactory. There's one point where the speakers were cracking badly and overall sound did not do justice to A&B even tho they did an awesome work on stage. The highs were overpowering and piercing and the mids were missing. Well, still a good event but could be better in sound wise.

Cheers

Not to mean lousy speakers but improperly set up more like it.
Probably some one was clipping the inputs causing distortion, or it wasn't room eqed properly. The sound rental guys should have given more headroom for above n beyond to play with. Then add a limiter to it just in case.

Happened once when I was with DJ EVO at a richard durand and shawn tyas gig. The dj's saturated the output of the djm800 causing distortion as the soundguys apparently didn't give enough headroom for them dj's to play with.

Chris, who was the sound people doing at this gig again?

I luv hardstyle~~but I cant go to JB have classes

Right anyway..look at this

http://www.stantondj.com/v2/prod_m207.asp

The M.207 is an innovative, affordable and reliably rugged 2-channel mixer with loads of features making it perfect for the DJ looking to enhance their performance abilities.
The M.207 continues Stanton’s dedication to the DJ mixer market, with an abundance of innovative features onboard. The M.207’s unique user interface for controlling effects, the FXGlide™, is a continuous strip touch controller utilizing the same innovative touch-slider technology that is used in Stanton's award-winning SCS.3d MIDI controller. In addition to providing real-time performance capabilities, the FX control can also be automated in real-time. This allows the DJ to create a custom modulation of the FX parameter, and then have that play back instead of the normal sweeping FX.
A new class of frequency dependent effects are also available on the M.207. With this feature, the FX can be applied to any of three specific frequency bands, without affecting the other frequencies. The M.207 also features an integrated phrase/loop sampler, making the M.207 more than just a durable, high-quality mixer. The layout, created by professional DJs, is clean and oriented towards live performance and scratch mixing.
The M.207 is not only innovative in its feature-set, but also dependably rugged in its construction and contemporary in its look and feel. Made of heavy gauge steel with a sleek black and silver color scheme, the M.207 has the look and feel that reinforces this mixer’s high-quality, high-reliability design.

This piece of mixer is from Stanton from the UK's. Has anyone personally used it? What do you guys think about this mixer? I find it interesting.

Apexitrust, I think your notions are preconceived in regards to the brand quality. When it was the time of qbert and mix master mike, stanton was one of the top producers for dj gears. Even the needles were defacto among the djing circle and were widely used along side the m44-7. Ask any old timer dj and you'll probably find out. Also their mixers were built like a tank and can suffer gigging abuse.

But then again I would always judge a product from the product itself not by the brand. As even top producers like pioneer and rane has a few hits and misses. Therefore I would look forward to reading reviews on the product and collecting a good sample data, before buying. In short I wont diss a mixer/gear just because it doesn't have a brand as prestigious as another.

I'm from PJ and very true that we don't have much pro equipments in our local music store. Mostly common instruments like roland, korg, yamaha etc. I guess pro equipments are not in demand as many are turned off due to it's high pricing.

Anyway, i manage to get the Virus TI from one of the local Access distributors and happen to know the boss. So i got it pretty quick within 3 days instead of having to import from Germany which will take 2 weeks.

QUOTE(apexitrust @ Jun 25 2010, 01:35 AM)
Theory is dead , human is alive , i dont believe theory and review , because different people have different feelings , i just try them out my self  I dont mean that stanton is not good i have one of their turntable's too and it works as great as technics , but for mixer wise there are no point for me to get Stanton and other brand , i dont think other mixer brand will sastified me at all because its too " TOY " for me . If i own these mixers i will upgrade it when i have cash and end up waste money , i rather like what i do now invest on a industry standard mixer ( DJM series , Vestax PMC , Rane TTM's ) . This brands mixer at least can sastified me for 5-10 years without upgrading . For me i judge by industry standard , much more familiar cuz i always play on it .

Oh ya different mixers have different HEADPHONE CUE , like rane there are a fader for headphones balance u can move left for deck 1 right for deck 2 , for DJM series it is usually 6 cue buttons ( chn.1-chn.4 , FX , master ) and a knob ( CUE , Master ) for headphones channel balancing . Behringer DDM series also have but is the most retarded i ever use , cant even balance the sound , i pity that club ( dragonfly club ) using that .
*
What I meant is to be completely objective when evauating whatever purchases. Tried and tested methods of statistics which involes random sampling of reviews out of a population set data, would give you an indication of how a product performs given the weighted performance indicators on how reliable a product is given your prefered choice of risk (standard deviation or confidence interval). Just like any scientific experiemnt, I would need to approach the subject matter holisticly and objectively. Thus I stand by my opnion on grading the product for the specific product itself and not by the weight of the brand. Unless the brand desiaribility is a weighted variable in my calculations.

Perhaps you feel via your experience that Behringer and/ or Stanton is bad, then I understand your point of view but I do not share the same sentiment as you. I also understand your reasoning about the money issue and the upgrading factor, as that I feel is only true to the extend if the product itself is inferior.

Regarding the Behinger DDM4000, I feel that thats the best mixer I have ever used as I have tried others as well including allen and heath and other various pioneer djm mixers. So i guess its just a difference in opinion. The cue balancing is fine in my opinion.

They have a local Access distributors named "Daxco Digital" in Damansara Intan but they don't have the hardwares. Their main HQ is in S'pore where most of the hardwares are stored.

I don't have myspace but we do have a page on facebook. Search for TRIMIX. We have some tracks up and also we had 3 of our tracks signed under a Canadian record company called Omerta records.

was trying to confuse you guys with the luxurious word "rig"... hahaha. the most expensive stuff i bought is the krk rp6 g2's.

Going all VST is good as the current vsti's are sounding very very good. Just that, current vsti's are CPU hungry and some are not. I bought Waldorf Largo via Waldorf online site and it's one hungry CPU cruncher even on a MacPro.

lol nothing much to meet up with him eh. People residing in Perth now...

@Gunbomb90
you dont have to be interested in turntablism to buy turntables. btw how is the BCD3000 treating you? you should be able to churn out great mixsets now since you've mastered it right? When will you be schooling DJ Thad in Behringer stuff? tongue.gif

Tried already. No luck.
How much approximately to fix power supply or fuse?
Another thing, this mixer is bought from US so I need to use a stepdown adapter.
Is there a way to change a part so that it'll work with our voltage without a stepdown?

If you're not really that good in the BCD3000 then why sell it?

master it well before you sell it to make most profit out of it because experience with a set of decks is the hardest to get especially with budgeting problems.

DJ thaddeus till today will still use the basic DJing tools - Turntables and normal CMX and cheap behringer mixers because it does his job and he loves the experience of exploring the full capabilities of the decks. While i'll still stick to my virtual DJ till i fully master it and got money to change and learn new decks.

since u havent sell now i give u a tips on using DVS nor midi controller , load 2 different track into the deck and close ur laptop screen , each time beatmatched , randomly whack the pitch and beatmatching again repeat and repeat , remember to use headphones and if posible only turn on CUE on the deck that not playing . constantly pratice this will make your pitch goes perfect .

seriously u have to refine your knowledge bout music , i believe u cant even do the difference of , mix , edit , remix , mixset . Adding airhorn to anime trance is consider edit .
*
Mix = Continue another song after one, Edit as you said, remix is change the genre of the song, sth like dat, but no idea what is mixset

mix doesnt means continue another song after one , thats call mixset / mixtape / mixcd . every producer all remixer know , a song is mix by alot of sampler , kicks , snare , usually after a producer produce a song they will name it blablabla ( Original Mix ) , remix is not only change the genre of songs , edit the songs withs different kicks and acapella consider remix as well but not airhorn only
*
Oh..okok thanks for the info. xD

Hm..have you heard of the new CDJ350 and DJM350? They have quite some function, its suitable for beginners and mobile DJ's. The CDJ's cost RM2.5k each, which totals up to RM5k and another RM1k ++ for the mixer. I'm not really sure but the price are around that range, and they are only released in Msia next month so...if you can wait. If you choose midi controller it would be much cheaper but you'll need a lappy to have it to function.

Uhm there are slight differences in both of them so, one has a better feature compared to the other so, its equal. It depends on how people use it, you cant judge a player is better than another player. xD

The Yamaha HS80M was pretty cheap at the time when i bought it but the Virus was one of my dream machine since 10 years ago. Was a hard decision to even buy the Virus TI because loads of VSTi are sounding pretty awesome.

Machine = Hardware Instruments.

The Access Virus. It's the holygrail music machine for EDM producers back then till today.

Heaps of music producers are using Access Virus instruments like:

Armin Van Buuren
Sean Tyres
Scooter
Giuseppe Ottaviani
Paul Van Dyk
Gareth Emery
Ferry Corsten
Prodigy
BT
Above & Beyond
Chemical Brothers
Deadmau5
ATB
Tiësto and lot's more.

Plus, there's more chioce music instruments in the market now which produces great sounds as well like Mopho, Tetra, Prophet 8, Evolver, Andromeda, Moog, Solaris etc.

It can be used for many genres of music and not only EDM. Hiphop, pop rock, pop celebrities/producers are using them and check out the list of Acess Virus users:

http://www.virusti.com/page/render/lang/en...ll_Of_Fame.html

And yes, it's mainly for producing purposes.

Heaps of music producers are using Access Virus instruments like:

Armin Van Buuren
Sean Tyres
Scooter
Giuseppe Ottaviani
Paul Van Dyk
Gareth Emery
Ferry Corsten
Prodigy
BT
Above & Beyond
Chemical Brothers
Deadmau5
ATB
Tiësto and lot's more.

Plus, there's more chioce music instruments in the market now which produces great sounds as well like Mopho, Tetra, Prophet 8, Evolver, Andromeda, Moog, Solaris etc.

Ya i am still very new to the Trance scene like 1 1/2 months ago and have heaps of stuff to learn.

Was just fooling around the Virus in the afternoon and as per your request, i just came up with the little demo. All bantai only and not really sequncing it as a song.

Your stuff is really cool dude. Very progressive. Love the bass and groove but i reckon you may need a melody hookline to run with the groove.

Also, you may need to work on your sound and getting them fat and solid.

These are just my opinion and hope you don't mind me commenting mate.

Anyway, i'm going offline for some online PS3 gaming. Will chat soon mate.

Cheers

just got my numark stealth controller..
the thing works like a charm..and it definitely beats carrying CDJs all around..

WeSC bagpipes are nice too..lacking a lil on the bass..then again..why need so much bass on headphones..i reckon it only makes mixing a lil harder if headphones producing too much bass..
clarity wise...simply awesome..

Feels a lil plastic but paddings are awesome...ears dont get warm and painful after 3 hours of nonstop practice..

overall..very nice headphones..fits me well..only lacking in the plastic feel to it..

Do you mean by? Uhm, for example a beat hits on the cdj A, and you immediately play the song that will hit the next beat right away at the cdj B.

Question :- How to check lens in CDJ ( cdj 800 ) want to know if it still good to go ???

Edit : Anyway, does anyone know where can I get Stanton products in Malaysia? If none is there any store available in Singapore?

It should be a traktor pro update. But it could also be a whole new traktor by itself coz it also has a controller that goes with it. Probably like serato scratch and serato itch.

Which set up is for intermediate? I don't want to keep upgrading...also, what software should I lookout for?
