it depends on 1) how qualified you are and 2) how urgent do they need to hire someone

... if you are really qualified, they will still call you up for an interview and they may give you some time to fly over to west malaysia for the interview.

Sound like some kind of a joke.
You fill in an east malaysia address and the call you for interview the next day but you cant fly over in time.

Nope. Interviews are schedule at least a week in advance, or min 3 days.

I have called East Malaysians to come interview before. No problem smile.gif Some use their home address for mailing purpose, but they are already in West Malaysia renting a place.

Once, a guy from sarawak agreed to come but then didnt turn up at the last minute. When I called, he said not interested doh.gif

Resume
a.k.a human body a.k.a Executive Summary
Curriculum Vitae a.k.a human head, abdomen, hands, legs...so on and so forth a.k.a Details, synopsis of your education, academic excellence, your curricular achievements, the list goes on...

These are basics and you ought to know that.

there's a section in my resume that states the projects and researches that i had done during my study. are these details relevant?

PROJECTS & RESEARCHES

2010 - Final Year Project (FYP): Online Musical Instruments Store
The system features a shopping cart and a database. Thorough research was conducted to determine online & offline purchasing behaviour as well as the implementation of the marketing 4 P’s.

2009 - Research Methodology: Knowledge Management & Knowledge Sharing Issues
A research paper on knowledge sharing issues in a certain institution.

*my resume is still within 2 pages. but will probably be more as I want to elaborate my interest such as my hobbies in graphic designing using photoshop. i am an electronic commerce student, so i think that my designing activities would strengthen one of my personal traits which is 'creative & innovative'

thanks in advance!

hi here's a question and appreciate to hear frm the seniors.

on the referral part on your resume do you put a specific person from your current company like your immediate supervisor/manager or you just have to put the hr address+contact no?

what's the different between these two situations?

Referral / Referee is a person whom has a direct supervision over you....well it would defeat the purpose if you were to give general referee (HR) as they would not even know you or be able to evaluate or describe your working attitude or habits which might play a role for the hiring company...

However, It's all up to you as there is always a Catch if you were to put your immediate supervisor/manager as a referee..as for instance if the potential company calls your referee, he/she might know that you have intentions of resigning which might jeopardise your work plans in a way...

My advice is, (might not apply to everybody) try to get hold of a supervisor/manager whom you are comfortable with and explain to him/her...you would have a few referee whom you can rely on if you have been with the company for some time...

By certain area definition its true.

But in real world its inter-changeably used. Hence in Msia context , both carries the same meaning.

CV, is more used in UK and Resume, is widely used in US. Msia it used to CV, but lately, many are using Resume, hence its blended, hybrid.

hi all

Wanted to ask what if I don't have any references to furnish? I mean the last time I listed my former managers (of 2 different companies) as references was 2 years ago, and I don't keep in contact with them.

And I feel it's inadequate to get in touch with them out of the blue just to ask them to be my references. So what should I do? Could I ask the interviewers to reference check with my previous HR instead?

Please advise, thanks ^^

For me, I didn't put any referees' in the first job interview. If I am to give, it would be because the potential new employer asks for it.

Listing your previous HR people might be a last option, but usually they won't be able to give detailed information about your work performance (unless you have worked closely with them), especially in a large company. It's best to list your former managers, since a good reference can really go a long way to help you get the job.

I think that you should notify the people you are listing as references beforehand. Just call them up or email them to explain briefly your work experience at the company and the duration (they won't necessarily remember everyone), especially if you haven't kept in touch with them after leaving.

Does it make a big difference on the chances of getting an interview if we apply for job online with or without picture attached?

No picture means incomplete application. What impression does that makes on you?

Before the digital age photos was expensive. Supplying a photo online cost you nothing and you still want to whine about it???

I am just asking a question. What do you mean by whining? I dont see how this is related to whining. Please be more courteous when answering to question. Thi sis what the forum is for. And you are just plain rude! mad.gif
