Dear all,

Would like your guidance on this issue...

Well, i was a fresh grad before i got hired for a full time job. Anyway, during then, i used a functional resume as i do not have much work experience during then and had used a lot of transferable skills as a point of sale in my resume (like how most functional resumes would look like, i guess?)

Anyway, after around a year of working with my company, my question is that, is it better if i used a functional resume, chrono , or a chrono-functional resume? I tried to build a chrono resume and it does look pretty impossible as 1 year is like...meh, lol...

As for chrono functional...i still am finding quite some difficulty here and there as my role in the company is pretty limited at this point of time...if u get what i mean...(it's just around a year, so...yea...and if i get too detailed in my job description, it's not appropriate isn't it?...probably the employer would ask during the interview itself would be more relevant, isn't it?)

Well, i did try and take a look at my (draft version) chrono-functional resume and it looks pretty weird as i have my college and work experience inter-tangled with each other, which makes it pretty confusing, but if i omit the college stuff which was in my previous resume, my resume looks....pretty empty, lol

So, another issue is that, is it better to keep stuff from my college as a point of reference of just put my current work employment stuffs on there and just try and dig every corner to fill up the resume? Logically, everything from the current work history is better, right? but what happens if there isn't much? Still a good idea to omit the college history then? Divide between work and college history?

Any tips for my situation is really appreciated, thanks...=)

Need advice here:

Let say I've changed from within same company for around 4 months, and I'm looking for job now, should I state in my resume as 2 separate job experiences or group both into as 1 job experience?

Thanks.

Do you guys think its necessary to put the events you partake in your resume?

Like taking part in charity event, helping out in old folks home bla bla bla.
Is those information important or I can just skip the whole thing out?

For me its not a must, but no harm adding it as some interviewer would like to see this.

How many page should a cover letter be?

Yes, should be short and simple. If too long the interviewer might not be interested to read further...

is there a standard font, size, and margins. or can we explore our creativity by using different fonts and (readable) font sizes? without being too creative, obviously.
I managed to cramp my resume into a single page by adjusting the margins (narrow) and font size. I think it looks great and most importantly, readable.

Please advice.

From what I know, it's best to be conservative when it comes to fonts and layouts.

Generally times new roman and arial for fonts (could be other equivalents), sizes 10-12. Not sure about margins, though I certainly don't see anything wrong with using narrow margins.

if its a recommendation letter that you think would contribute to your application (for example from a previous employer/senior colleague or lecturer) then I think you should attach it with your resume.

Generally, no. But depending on the application, you might want to use a brief presentation in the email body and attach your cover letter (with all addresses and formalities) and resume as separate documents.

The cover letter is basically a brief presentation of yourself, and it gives you a chance to present yourself and to explain why you are applying for a particular position. You generally add information that is not available in your resume, or give additional details about the points you included in your resume.
