But in your earlier post, you stated 3.0cc for both N52 and N54 engine?

That was an example of the HP differences between the n52 and n54

I replied to your question biggrin.gif

the 525i at one point had a 3000cc engine with the n53. Just once.

The rest are 2500cc

I already stated that in my first reply.

525i changed three engines during it's lifetime. At first it used the old M54B25 which was replaced by N52B25 in 2005. Last three years of production the 525i used newest N53B30 engine which produced same power at lower revs and more torque.

Depends on you.

Save Fuel go for m54, want power? go for the newer magnesiums.

I don't get it, you plan to buy a 3.0l engine and you want to save fuel? Unfortunately 3.0l engine with big heavy BMWs will mean expensive fuel bills no matter what biggrin.gif

Also don't forget that the M54 is an older engine so again you're automatically looking at higher maintenance (although not necessarily higher cost).

Technically the n52 claims it has better fuel efficiency but in malaysia apparently the n52 has a bad fuel efficiency compared to the m54 according to people. I suggest you do more research on that to be sure

And if the next question your gonna ask is "which has better performance"

here's your answer the n52 smile.gif

He's talking about e60 525i which only ONCE came with a n53b30, the rest of the time the 525i came with a 2500cc that is m54 and n52.

Chances of him getting the one with n53b30 are pretty slim.

BTW i'm not sure about this but if im not mistaken the newer magnesiums engines have to be oil serviced more regularly then the m54's

rclxms.gif lol exactly what i was going to post. it is pointless to compare FC if you are looking at a 3l BMW. If you travel like average ppl, your fuel bill will most likely top 400-500 a month

my FC is like clockwork... 110km per quarter tank for my N54

Are you sure the N53B30 was fitted on the local 525i sold here?

Firstly i didn't claim the local 525i here had the n53b30, i just said it might have the n53b30.

And it is possible for a 525i in Malaysia to have a n53b30, maybe the owner is like me and had his car imported from the UK.

But locally assembled 525i with n53b30, i don't think so.

Besides the guy might as well get the 530i instead if he wants a 3litre engine.

Because the n53b30 engine has the same output as the normal 2500cc engine but it has better torque at lower RPM, not much of a performance increase if you ask me. If the owner wants the feeling of power he should get a 530i laugh.gif

The N53 has issues with our high sulphur fuel. That's why we have been getting the N52 for our BMWs for the longest time.

That and the fact that the n53b30 is a 3000cc engine, when the 525i is suppose to be a 2500cc engined car

Although i've seen the n53b30 the 278hp version in several 530i's most of the time their imported cars.

Not to be overly picky, but its 272hp for the 3 ltr smile.gif.

Here is a good article about the BMW N52/N53 by Paul Tan.
