Mine is the N53 engine version which runs on direct injection. However I'm not sure if the output is 258hp or 272hp (it may vary according to region) unless I do a dyno which I haven't For those who wants E60 LCI versions 525's with 2500cc, get local CKD or Japan specs. They come with N52's.

QUOTE(clawhammer @ Jul 12 2011, 05:33 PM) Mine is the N53 engine version which runs on direct injection. However I'm not sure if the output is 258hp or 272hp (it may vary according to region) unless I do a dyno which I haven't For those who wants E60 LCI versions 525's with 2500cc, get local CKD or Japan specs. However in Malaysia, your car does not need to go through strict emissions test yearly. Bad news is that the BMW engine compensates for non sulphur free fuel by getting out of lean burn mode, which will give out more hydrocarbons but lowering NOx emissions. The main impact for the engine compensating for the sulphur fuel is higher fuel consumption on the car. What kind of FC are you getting on your N53 here in Malaysia? "With maximum output of 200 kW/272 hp and peak torque of 315 Newton-metres or 232 lb-ft, this is also the most powerful version so far of BMW’s 3.0-litre six-cylinder normal-aspiration engine. And on the road, this means two advantages in one: a further increase in engine dynamics and a new dimension in all-round economy. Clean and intelligent: NOx storage catalysts.
BMW’s new straight-six power unit with High Precision Fuel Injection is being launched initially in the European markets. Then, with sulphur-free fuel becoming increasingly available also elsewhere as the prerequisite for the NOx storage catalyst technology featured in the engine, the new power unit will make its entry step-by-step into other markets.
Yet a further advantage is that European customers will also be able to use their car in countries where sulphur-free fuel is not yet available everywhere. While in such cases the engine will not be able to offer its particular fuel economy in full, since in that case the storage catalyst will require regeneration more often than when running on fuel free of sulphur, there are no objections to running the engine also on fuel containing sulphur, when a European customer travels abroad."

Thanks for the great article/information Actually I've done my research and apparently high sulphur fuel means the injectors would be clogged up over time and a replacement would be necessary. The N53 high pressure fuel pump also has some design faults which could potentially fail over time. Other than that, the car is fine. Fuel consumption is nothing great, I get about 480-500KM on a full tank of urban city driving.

Silly question. If I plan to bring back my E90 as a track car (purely for track use), what kind of duties/taxes do I have to pay?
I'm thinking it's a waste for me to sell it off when I get back to Malaysia, as it would be nice to have a track car or for bringing people around a circuit for demo purposes.

Apply for a student AP and upon arrival of your car, pay the full tax amount in cash then you're free to drive around Malaysia You cannot transfer ownership within 2 years if I'm not mistaken.

If you have a racing license and the car is purely for track use you technically don't have to pay for taxes. However I believe this applies only for teams and not individuals and I strongly suggest you contact MAM for more info http://www.mam.org.my/dutytax.php Added on July 13, 2011, 10:16 amQUOTE(DaBestOne @ Jul 13 2011, 07:10 AM) why would u want it to be track use car bro? I suggest you go lurk in the BMW forums, there's a good possibility you'll hear about the next track day although my guess is the next one will be sometime later in 2011.

QUOTE(DaBestOne @ Jul 13 2011, 01:03 PM) and for that i need to pay few k for the experience? haha Nope, all free, part of the BMW marketing experience. You don't have to be a BMW owner either. All you have to do is keep an eye open for the events and sign up. I didn't have to pay a single sen to drive the car several laps around Sepang. I think in the past 12 months alone there were the BMW Innovation Days, Driving Dynamics Weekend, the BMW ConnectedDrive event, some ZF technical sessions and several track days. Most are in Klang Valley although some are in other parts of the country. A 2-hour drive to Melaka to blast around Batu Berendam Melaka airport in a BMW? Why not This post has been edited by tishaban: Jul 13 2011, 01:44 PM

Are you sure this is what you want?

Are you sure this is what you want? I am thinking of it as pure track use, yeah. I think it's not required to have it only at track compound but I need to have a trailer to transport it. They rent garages at Sepang but I'm not sure with that. The car will be quite old by the time I plan to go back Malaysia, so I thought of making it a track car only so I can tinker around at the circuit (no need to pay road tax and insurance) and have another (cheaper!) car for every day use. Malaysian roads are not ideal for fast cars anyway. I'll check out the procedures when the time comes. Also, it's great to see BMW is quite active at the marketing even in Malaysia. I do get track days from BMW and Nissan before in Germany too. Also got to visit their factory. Later in the year will be going to Neckarsulm or Ingolstadt for Audi. I'm planning Audi R8 experience at Spa or Nürburgring next spring. Getting kaki now. P.S. Found this http://www.mam.org.my/dutytax.phpThis post has been edited by kelvinlym: Jul 13 2011, 05:25 PM
