AS the world's biggest and richest club, Manchester United reach a global fanbase.

Part of the attraction for fans around the world has been the football luminaries, such as George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton, who have graced the Old Trafford turf in a Manchester United shirt over the years.

Recently, Manchester United have continued to attract or develop some of the game's biggest names, with England stalwarts such as Paul Scholes and David Beckham having been regular fixtures in the Reds line-up.

The Manchester United team, past and present, reads like a who's who of world football.

It is only fitting that a great team should grace a great stadium. And with Old Trafford's recent development and the closure of Wembley, the ground is easily the largest in English football, holding in excess of 60,000 fans.

Despite this capacity, the demand to see United in action is so great that tickets are hard to come by.

But it isn't only Manchester United fans who flock to Old Trafford. The standard of the ground is such that it regularly hosts high-profile games, most notably, the Champions League Final and Great Britain rugby league games.

Rock fans have also made use of the Reds's facilities, watching a number of high-profile acts at the ground.

But it's football that will forever be synonymous with the Reds famous ground - and with good reason.

The last decade has seen Manchester United under the shrewd leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson maintain a virtual stranglehold on the Premiership crown.

Manchester United has won the league no fewer than 17 times in their history - 10 times in the last 11 seasons. They are also Cup Kings too, winning the FA cup 11 times, the league cup twice, as well as winning the European Super Cup, European Cup Winner's Cup, and 3 times being crowned European Cup champions.

Manchester United has long become a name associated with success both on and off the pitch.

As club profits continue to grow, Manchester United have become one of the richest sports clubs on the planet.

With supporters club branches on every continent, it's hard to go any where in the world and not see somebody wearing the famous red shirt of Manchester United.

QUOTE(zenix @ Nov 24 2009, 09:18 PM)
Hope Alien will sticky this info later.
Though written in 2006 so no Roy Keane yet.

Ex-United players that have moved on to become managers.

Written by Simon Stone (MARCH 22, 2006)

STEVE BRUCE (1987-1996): Took his first steps in management with Sheffield United in 1998, then swiftly moved on to Huddersfield, Wigan and Crystal Palace. Left Selhurst Park in acrimonious fashion after Birmingham targeted him as the replacement for Trevor Francis in 1991. Took Blues into the Premier League but after a heavy FA Cup defeat is struggling to keep his job.

MARTIN POWELL (1971-1983): Stylish and well-respected Scotland centre-half whose authoritative nature appeared to make him a natural for the management game. Lasted four months at Burnley.

SIR BOBBY CHARLTON (1956-1973): Arguably the finest English player of all time proved to be an unmitigated disaster as a manager. Claimed he was not given the resources to make a decent job of it at Preston but was never lured back into management following his departure after a single season.

STEVE COPPELL (1975-1983): After a knee injury cut his playing career short at just 28, Coppell turned his attention to management. Steered Crystal Palace into the FA Cup final and then third place in the old First Division - the Eagles' highest ever - the following season. It was the first of four stints in charge at Selhurst Park in a career which has seen him move to Manchester City (for only six games), Brentford and Brighton. Now at Reading and about to steer the Royals into the top flight for the first time.

PADDY CRERAND (1962-1971): A key figure in United's 1968 European Cup triumph, Crerand lasted five months at Northampton before getting the bullet and, like Charlton, never managed again.

MARK HUGHES (1983-86, 1988-95): Hughes was never tipped as a manager by Ferguson but has taken to the game with ease. Took Wales into the Euro 2004 play-offs. Took over at Blackburn shortly afterwards, steering Rovers away from danger in his first season. Currently in contention for a Champions League spot.

BRIAN KIDD (1967-1974): Another European Cup winner who proved to be a poor manager. Got itchy feet in 1998 after spending seven years as Sir Alex Ferguson's highly-rated assistant. Took command at Blackburn but dismissed six months later.

BRYAN ROBSON (1981-94): United's inspirational leader under Ron Atkinson and Ferguson. There are two schools of thought on his stint at Middlesbrough - he either spent lots and achieved little (relegation and two losing finals) or he laid the platform for the Teessiders to become an established Premiership outfit. Kept West Brom up in extraordinary fashion last year but back in trouble again this season.

GORDON STRACHAN (1984-89): Scotland international who won the FA Cup with United and the title of the pre-Premiership era with Leeds. Sacked after five years at when the Sky Blues lost top-flight status, then enjoyed success at Southampton - reaching the 2003 Cup final - before resigning to spend more time with his family. Now at Celtic, has recovered from a humiliating Champions League exit to Artmedia Bratislava, and, after winning his first trophy on Sunday in the CIS Insurance Cup, is set to clinch the Scottish Premier League.

NOBBY STILES (1960-71): Along with Charlton, one of only two Englishmen to have won the World Cup and European Cup, he replaced his former England and United team-mate at Preston, with limited success. After a brief stint in Vancouver, returned to England to take over as manager of West Brom. Sacked after five months, having gained just three wins.

Hi alien, I uploaded the Scholes Centurion video (a compilation of all 100 goals he scored throughout his career in Man United).

If it's allowed, I thought why not share with other forummers by posting the link in the first few posts. The link is : http://rapidshare.com/files/367460321/PS_Cntrn1x0.rar =)

well its not our "factor" any more now isnt it.even tho we do need to win but we also need that deciding factor.so no matter who steps up in our colours, they will be playing minor part imo.the major role depends on the other 11 from north west tongue.gif

Let's get the last job done, win against Stoke...

Added on May 6, 2010, 4:08 amThe "only" incentive for Wigan to get a result against Chelsea is GBP750k from the Premier League for finishing the league at 14th place vs. their current 15th.

Valencia star David Silva open to Manchester United move

QUOTE
Valencia star David Silva has revealed he would be interested in joining Manchester United this summer.

David Silva says he would relish a move to the Premier League

Silva, 24, has long been linked with a move away from the Mestalla due to the club's financial problems, and United are rumoured to be interested.

The Spain star insists he would be happy to stay at Valencia but, should they cash in during the summer, he would welcome a move to Old Trafford.

"When you hear a club like Manchester United is interested in you it is an honour," he said in the Daily Express. "I am very aware of the Premier League, and in recent years it has been the stand-out league in the world.

"If it came calling, especially if it was a club like Manchester United, it would be very hard to resist. I am happy at Valencia but every player has his price and if they get an offer they think is good business anything is possible."

Champions League finalists Bayern Munich target Manchester United's £7m Ji-Sung Park

QUOTE
Bayern Munich want Manchester United winger Ji Sung Park and are ready to bid £7million.

The South Korean is a popular figure at Old Trafford but ambitious Bayern recognise United are approaching a transitional stage and want to tempt them to sell and help fund their rebuilding.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says he needs two players but privately there are concerns he will need at least four top level performers with question marks over Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Carrick, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja

Vidic, plus Owen Hargreaves still to prove his long term fitness.

Park, 29, has been a key figure in United's big games, scoring against Arsenal, Liverpool and AC Milan, but has endured fitness concerns himself following international matches involving long haul travel.

He is contracted until 2012 and only this week said he wanted to stay at Old Trafford for the rest of his career.

However, Bayern want to offer United a 90 per cent profit on the £4m they paid PSV Eindhoven for him in 2005 and that could trigger his departure.

United have their own targets in mind including Everton's Steven Pienaar, Valencia's David Silva and Sotiris Ninis of Panathinaikos but are still to determine their budget.

yes i think that's true. i guess he realised that he has to change the style of his play to suit MU and not the other way around.
i find that it's almost pathetic watching him play at times, and now i feel sorry for him.
you can actually see that his teammates (rooney+giggs) keep trying to pass the ball to him.

Michael Owen on target but striker's team are still not firing on all cylinders

QUOTE
For Michael Owen, the opening day of Chester’s May meeting was a bit like the final of the Carling Cup — a mixture of success and frustration.

At Wembley, Owen scored as Manchester United beat Aston Villa but limped off with a hamstring injury that ended his season. On Wednesday, he celebrated one for his team as Julius Geezer, trained by Tom Dascombe at his Manor House Stables in Cheshire, made all to win the Lily Agnes Stakes.

But his own Chester Cup hope Nemo Spirit ran as if he had four strained hamstrings, tailing off as Richard Hughes won by a head on David Pipe’s 7-1 favourite Mamlook. The day also reflected the ups and downs of Dascombe’s first full season as Owen’s resident trainer.

user posted image
All smiles: Michael Owen (left) and his trainer Tom Dascombe on the gallops

He had told anyone who asked that 12-1 shot Julius Geezer held out little hope compared to stablemate Coconut Ice, the eventual fifth. Like many of his string, Julius Geezer had been afflicted by a bacterial infection.

Dascombe, uncharacteristically slow to hit form and saddling his first juvenile winner of the season, said: ‘It is a bacterial infection that we are struggling to shift. We have 60 two-year-olds. They are not right and that wipes out 70 per cent of the string.’

Racing and football share similar rumour mills. Dascombe had already picked up murmurs that he was facing the same battles that bedevilled his predecessor Nicky Vaughan at Manor House, gossip fuelled no doubt by the jealous wish to see Owen burn his money.

Surveying the scene: Owen has begun buying fillies with potential to make broodmares

But the striker, who watched Wednesday’s action alongside his manager Sir Alex Ferguson, insists that now with the vital assistance of partner Andrew Black, the co-founder of Betfair, a Premier League racing outfit will emerge at the 160-acre former farm.

New gallops have been installed and a swimming pool, veterinary centre and additional stables will follow.

Owen said: ‘I’d invested a lot of money and it was going to be difficult to keep on going. Racing is certainly a money pit and that is before you start buying horses.

‘We want to make this place the best we can. We don’t want to be second-rate. You need the best horses, the best facilities and the best trainer.

user posted image
Hot tip: Manchester United's John O'Shea (above right) and Nani (above left) struck gold at Chester, while Owen Hargreaves (below right) and Sir Alex Ferguson (below centre) also enjoyed their day at the races

user posted image

‘We are not in a position to compete with the top stables yet, but we are confident we will be in time. We will provide Tom with the best facilities. You just need healthy horses and a bit of luck.’

Sacking Vaughan last summer may have been seen as ruthless, but Owen believes the stable was simply evolving.

He said: ‘It’s like building a football team. You can’t just go and get Sir Alex Ferguson as manager if you own Chester City. You have to start and build from somewhere.

‘I used to have horses trained with John Gosden when he was at Manton and always said that I’d like to create a mini-Manton when I got old. It started off as a joke but that is what I want to do.’

Owen’s ambition is also to breed winners and he has begun buying fillies with potential to make broodmares.

An unnamed Cadeaux Genereux filly is a start this season. She is in training alongside three juveniles — Cuban Spirit, Cuban Quality and Cuban Piece — who race for eight United team-mates, including Paul Scholes and Gary Neville.

Ultimately, Owen wants to produce Classic candidates such as Gosden’s Gertrude Bell, 25-1 for the Oaks after her win in the Cheshire version on Wednesday.

Chester Cup winner Mamlook, meanwhile, might have his sights set further afield after jockey Richard Hughes confirmed he is a perfect contender for the Melbourne Cup.

It was the Irishman who recommended running him in in Wednesday’s race after the pair finished second in last year’s Cesarewitch.

England captain Rio Ferdinand leads star-studded turn out for Tony Carr testimonial at West Ham

Look who's back: Rio Ferdinand gives Manchester United a timely boost on his return to West Ham

user posted image

Rio Ferdinand gave Manchester United and England a major boost after he continued his comeback from back and groin injuries to play in Tony Carr's star-studded testimonial.

Ferdinand, who has started only 11 Barclays Premier League games this season, was granted permission by Sir Alex Ferguson to travel to London and pay respect to the West Ham academy director responsible for so much of his early development at Upton Park.

Ferdinand partnered his brother Anton in West Ham's clash with the Academy All Stars and looked untroubled as he came through the opening 28 minutes before being substituted.

Carr said: 'Rio has been struggling with his back for a couple of weeks but I give Sir Alex credit.

'I got a call from Rio and he said he was getting on a train with permission to play by Fergie.'

It was a night to remember for Carr, who has given 37 years of service to the club and brought through seven current England players.

Although they were not allowed to play, Frank Lampard (left), John Terry (inset with Lampard) and Joe Cole were all back in a claret and blue shirt but were given mixed receptions when they were introduced to the 13,000 crowd at the start of the game.

Michael Carrick was unable to attend due to his wife giving birth to their second child last weekend, while Glen Johnson had a club function and Jermain Defoe was in action for Tottenham against Manchester City.

Gianfranco Zola's side won the game 5-1, with former Hammers hero Paolo Di Canio voted man of the match with the fans in awe of the Italian on his return to Upton Park.

MATCH FACTS

Academy All-Stars: Stech (John 84), Newton (Purches 46), A Ferdinand (Forbes 49), R Ferdinand (Ward 28, Edwards 71), Ridgewell (Richardson 46, Hall 77), Slater (Hodges 34, Williamson 64), McCann (Stokes 46), Holland, Britton (Reid 46),

rio's return is good news for us for the final match.
but looking at our squad, brown and evans are enough replacement for him.

what we need now is our strikers to fire on all cylinders.
rooney is around 80% fit from what i can see in the last game. maybe he can regain another 10% by the final game.

berbatov doh.gif well let's just hope he gets more luck.

Then it was Chelsea that he posted a picture of didier drogba with FA Cup. Then it was here where he posted a barclay's premier league trophy and added 2 "goodbye" emoticon. i can think of at least 3 clubs that is interested with park ji sung

AC milan,Barcelona,and now bayern munich

with enormous stamina and speed(usually he is the only one accompanying rooney in counter-attack),good observation on the ball and sheer hardwork and dicipline, no wonder people all like him and want him as their player

he also has triggered the korean frenzy among football clubs to find great footballer at cheap price

heh??wut offer meh they where got come wif offer...all just paper talk..some thing like other star players usually linked wth us.if you remember back then giggsy was chased by juve also and on top of that during that time he wasnt playing well, got in to a small fight wif the gaffer and the press had a field day for the whole period and they were 100% sure he will leave but in the end patched up wif fergie, he signed and stayed on.

so if they no comment doesnt mean its the end oso.if they give out a comment it will just fuel the press and make the fans unrest, might as well stay quiet and enjoy what you care most then what other ppl write about you.

Manchester United Ready to Offer £50m Former Tottenham Pair In Exchange for In Form Duo Modric and Bale

QUOTE
Manchester United is set to make an improved offer to try to tempt Tottenham playmaker Luka Modric and wide man Gareth Bale to Old Trafford. Sir Alex Ferguson has shown a very keen interest in the two in form White Hart Lane men and it appears that the Old Trafford boss is hoping that the offer of a player swap may more appeal to Harry Redknapp than cold hard cash.

Both Modric and Bale have been outstanding this season with the Welsh international especially impressive over the past two months and its no surprise that interest has grown in both players but whether Redknapp would sanction any such deal is debatable.

Ferguson is reportedly ready to offer the likes of Michael Carrick, Anderson and even former Spurs man Dimitar Berbatov in exchange for two of Redknapp’s prized assets. Manchester United are of course in severe financial dire straits at present but the Glazers have stated that funds will be available to Sir Alex to invest in his playing squad.

Manchester United shelled out over £50m for Carrick and Berbatov but it seems that Ferguson has in some respect lost faith in both and could offer Redknapp the former Tottenham pair in an attempt to seal the deal.

Given that the north London side have just secured a first Champions League spot it could prove very hard to snap up either of these talented players but one can never underestimate the allure associated with a move to arguably the biggest football club in the world.

Man Utd and Real Madrid close to major agreement

QUOTE
Man Utd and Real Madrid are very close to coming to an agreement over striker Karim Benzema according to reports out of Spain. Sir Alex Ferguson has long been an admirer of Benzema and wanted to bring the Frenchman to Old Trafford last season but was thwarted in his attempts after Real Madrid snatched the 22 year old from under their noses.

Benzema himself only two days ago stated that he never wants to leave Real Madrid and is wanted to stay at the Bernabeau forever but that now looks like nothing more than a last desperate attempt by the player to convince the money men at Real Madrid to stick with him, that appeal however looks like it has fallen on death ears and Man Utd are closer now than they have ever been to securing their man.

Ferguson is looking for a new striker no matter what comments come out of Old Trafford, they want to get rid of flop Dimitar Berbatov and Benzema has always been their preferred target and with the Frenchman not getting much playing time at Real Madrid Ferguson is hopeful that Benzema will be a Man Utd player next season.

No fee has been mentioned and to be honest it is still not clear if this will be a loan deal or permanent move but the Spanish media are convinced that a deal is very close to being agreed.

So, Carrick's bad form on second part of this season is clearly showing he's not suitable with United?

And where were you when he was majestically playing alongside Scholesy when we first won PL in 2006/2007?

Or am I just imagining things when Roma was smitten 7 times at OT and Carrick scored 2 in that match plus instrumentally important in orchestrating the gameplay?

Sometimes, our fans gets me go shakehead.gif

i dont know about berba, but Carrick is ok for me.i mean come on la every one has up and down days.this season he might be having a low pt but who knows maybe its from an injury or lack of confidence etc etc but he has proved his worth many times la so i still think he is core to our squad.

United announce summer tour

Manchester United will go west to prepare for the 2010/11 season, with new matches announced today for Toronto, Philadelphia, Kansas City and Houston.

The squad, headed by Ryan Giggs and including stars such as Paul Scholes, Edwin van der Sar, Darren Fletcher, Antonio Valencia, John O’Shea, Michael Owen and Dimitar Berbatov, will be bolstered by a number of the promising young players, such as Federico Macheda and the da Silva twins.

First stop is a training camp in Chicago, home of new shirt sponsors Aon. This will be followed by a visit to the Rogers Center in Toronto for a match against Celtic on 16 July, then a return to the Lincoln Financial Field, where United played in 2003 and 2004, against Philadelphia Union on 21 July. Four days later, the Kansas City Wizards provide the opposition at the Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City. The US matches are completed in Houston on 28 July with a game against the MLS All-Stars in the Reliant Stadium.

Two days later, as already announced, the squad will play the Club’s first ever match in Mexico to open Chivas’ new 45,000 seat stadium in Guadalajara.

Sir Alex Ferguson said: “It’s great to be going back to North America. I enjoyed the last two tours there in 2003 and 2004 immensely. The quality of the facilities is outstanding and there is a real enthusiasm in the crowds. It’s especially pleasing to be going in a World Cup year, when the interest in football will be at its height.”

well either way you see it we have only 3 regular wingers.park, nani, valencia.

giggs has maybe another season left in him so its best to find a replacement soon.bale would fit in the mould nicely and give nani, park, valencia some competition to be always on top.plus he can play left back wch gives evra the much needed cover as of now we are a bit thin on that side.

as for obertan i dont see him entering the frey for at least another 2 seasons.

bale + modric + silva = injury prone = not for BPL.
as much talented as they are, pls.....i don't want another hargo in our team. soli. no.

as for the news of benz. i dun think he wants to leave either. and i oso doubt the likelihood of the the players swapping with spurs. even moreso it's from caughtoffside lar...nothing official from anywhere at all. offer carrick + ando + berba for modric + bale?? i'd rather keep those 3. wat kinda gossip is that!? utter rubbish tbh. hmm.gif

bos said he might get in "1 or 2" players in. i dun expect any big names. but then again, even if there is, the deal may be sealed before WC starts to avoid the price inflation in case those targeted players shine in WC. nod.gif

United stay shocks Van der Sar

QUOTE
Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has admitted he never expected his stay at the club to last as long as it has.

The Dutchman arrived at Old Trafford in 2005 from Fulham and has enjoyed glittering success under Sir Alex Ferguson's stewardship.

Van der Sar has three Premier League titles and a Champions League gong to his name - although he never anticipated spending nearly six years at one of the most successful teams in the world.

And after extending his stay at United for another year, the 39-year-old has his eyes on rounding off his career with the honour of a testimonial match in tribute to his service for the club.

Van der Sar told Inside United: "I still believed I was doing enough to play for a bigger team but you need someone to take a gamble, which Sir Alex Ferguson did. At the time I was 34 so I didn't expect to be here six years.

Testimonial

"I thought that I would be at United for two years and then maybe go and do something else. Instead I am steadily trying to reach my testimonial."

The former Ajax and Juventus man could have found his stay at the Red Devils cut short earlier in the season as it emerged his wife had been suffering from a serious illness.

But after holding talks with Annemarie, Van der Sar agreed to continue plying his trade, even though many at his age would be hanging up the gloves.

He joins the likes of Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs enjoying finer moments well into the later stages of their careers', however the Dutchman has no explanations as to why he continues to defy the ravages of time.

He went on: "It was important my wife felt okay with it. If she had said she would rather go back to Holland then we would have done that.

"But I had made up my mind in December that I would keep playing and join the other old boys, who keep on going.

Very strange

"My position is not as demanding as Paul and Ryan, who have had to run and tackle a lot. But the main thing is we are all still enjoying it."

Van der Sar's task in the meantime is to try help United claim an unprecedented fourth successive title, which would mean beating Stoke on the final day and hoping Chelsea slip up against Wigan.

After usually finding his team in the driving seat, relying on other results is a situation unfamiliar position for the keeper, however he remains hopeful more silverware will be coming his way.

He added: "It is very strange. In the last three years we have been in command. Now we have to wait. It is going to be difficult.

"We have lost a lot of games this year but we are still in there at the end. Hopefully Wigan will have a go for it on Sunday and we will hear some positive news."

Tosic may leave United

QUOTE
Zoran Tosic has admitted that he wants to see more first-team action at Manchester United next season, or he will look to leave Old Trafford.

The Serbian winger is currently on loan at Bundesliga side Cologne, where he has netted five times in 12 games since joining in January.

Despite being hailed as a great prospect after signing for United from Partizan for £8million in January 2009, Tosic made just two appearances in the first team before his move to Germany.

The 23-year-old has however maintained his desire to stay at Old Trafford, but only if more appearances in the starting XI were possible.

"If United want me back I will be very happy to return but I don't want to go back there and be in the same situation as last year, I want a more important role in the set-up," he told Serbian TV channel b92's website.

"I feel great here but it remains to be seen what Manchester United will say because it's up to them, I have a contract with the club and it's their decision.

"If that's not what United want, then I will have a look at alternative options.

"I've spoken to Cologne's officials and they told me they would like to see me wear the team's shirt next season too."

World Cup confidence

With Tosic expected to be a part of Serbia coach Radomir Antic's plans for the World Cup in South Africa in June, the former Partizan midfielder, who has scored four goals in his last four games for his country, was confident his side could perform well in the tournament.

"We have a strong team and want to carry on where we left off in the qualifiers, I am sure we can get through although we are missing some injured players," Tosic added.

"We have able replacements and my main concern at the moment is to stay fit so I can be in coach Radomir Antic's frame as soon as the build-up starts."

Poor tosic, no chance for him to shine at man utd sad.gif
Eventhou he stay still hard to break the current form of nani, valencia, park, giggsy
Hope he do well on other club
Btw, ribbery does not appeal on final ecl..

About the last day title decider,
Remember the final day on 07/08?
We met wigan, and chelsea met bolton
No one expected chelsea could draw against bolton.
Let's hope wigan could do a 'small' favour to us.
But if man utd not a champ this year, I proud of my team.
7 loses and 28 away goal in 2nd spot? Not many team have done this.
We loses rio coz of his injury, vidic coz not in form, midfielder not creative enough
And rooney because his marvellous season.
Proud to be mancunian :smile.gif:

say no to wingers! we have tosic valencia giggs park nani obertan. Even hargreaves can play on the right.

And i bet fabio and rafael can play as a winger as well, as long as we have backups for fullback.

The only thing lacking for me is an attacking midfield. Someone like iniesta or kaka

Fans can register for email updates regarding ticket sales at www.manutd.com/tour2010.

Sigh....why doesnt the club wanna visit Australia? the last time is in 1999, even Malaysia already got visited twice between that period.

besides he still an important part of the squad would be pointless to sell him.imo he will shine for us after wc.a more matured player i see him in the future.

Rooney - Best season yet

QUOTE
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney hopes the best season of his career so far can be capped with a Premier League winner's medal.

The United marksman has been in scintillating form this term and currently tops the league's scoring chart alongside Didier Drogba with 26 goals so far.

Ten of those goals have come with his head and the England ace went on an amazing hot streak which saw him hit 19 goals in 15 games before picking up an ankle injury against Bayern Munich in March.

Rooney admits the departures of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid and Carlos Tevez to Manchester City have given him the chance to play more centrally, but knows his good form will count for little if the Red Devils do not pip Chelsea to the post.

"This has been my best season. I have scored a lot of goals and my overall play has been good," he said in the Daily Express.

"It has definitely been my most prolific season and I'm pleased with the way things have gone.

"But it would complete it all if we could clinch the title. We are still in with a chance. We have to win our match against Stoke and then if Wigan can do us a favour that would be great.

"We can't do anything else than win our game and hope. Let's see what happens on Sunday.

"Losing Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez took a lot of goals away from the team. I knew I'd have to score more.

Difference

"It has also meant that I have played up front all season and that has made a big difference to my game.

"It was a big loss but we still have good players here. We just knew that we had to work hard and find a new way of playing.

"We have managed to do that. There have been ups and downs along the way, but we've done well."

United need Wigan to stop Chelsea winning at Stamford Bridge if they are going to stand a chance of reaching the summit on the final day of the season.

But Rooney has issued a formidable warning that whatever happens he will improve next year and come back an even stronger player.

"I want to improve on all aspects of my game - scoring and creating goals," he added in the club's official magazine.

"That's why I stay behind every day to practise."

you must be kidding me, Aussie's soccer reputation is one of the most high rising in recent years , with the sports being played here as common as the Aussie rule Football, and you can see the Australian soccer team is getting stronger as year goes by. Honestly, the potential here is very big. I would like to think if Man Utd wanna go global, why it's always an alternate of Asia-US-Asia-US most of the time? They've even to African countries, because they wanna start promoting, so if u say Australia no market, why not start promoting as well? They can do an Oceania tour if they want, with countries like Australia and NZ being part of it. Not to mention it is a cold climate here during pre-season in June, get away from the summer heat. Lots of reasons i can think of actually.

I already got the chance to meet up with the team in Doha, but have yet to watch them play together in a real match, even in a non competitive match. Missed out on the Malaysia tour last year coz studying here cry.gif

Evans another 4 years

QUOTE
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed defender Jonny Evans  has signed a new four-year contract with the club.

Jonny Evans has become an integral part of Manchester United's first-team squad

Evans, 22, has firmly established himself as first-choice back-up to Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic since making his first-team breakthrough at United in 2007.

Ferguson demonstrated his belief in the Northern Ireland international's ability when he allowed Gerard Pique to leave for Barcelona in 2008,
and Evans has repaid his manager's faith by performing consistently when called upon to replace Ferdinand or Vidic.

Read the faq.
http://www.manutd.com/default.sps?pagegid=...F-FD2BB35441FD}

Can I watch live games on MUTV?
MUTV shows full coverage of every United game across all competitions – Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carling Cup. Plus there's the Reserve and Academy game. We also broadcast all United’s pre-season games live and exclusively on MUTV.

Unfortunately, because of how television rights work we cannot show live first team games during the season. But you can watch the full 90 minutes of most first team fixtures within 24 hours of the final whistle.

No live games..

Evans wants to progress

QUOTE
Jonny Evans admits he needs to continue improving after signing a new long-term contract.

The 22-year-old stopper has penned a four-year deal at Old Trafford, after becoming an integral part of the Red Devils first-team squad.

Evans, though, is not taking anything for granted and insists he needs to keep performing.

"The contract is there but you still have to perform for the manager," said Evans.

"If your performance levels dropped you could be sold in January."

Evans was linked with a move abroad with Barcelona and Real Madrid both said to be showing an interest.

But the Northern Ireland international confirmed there was no doubt about his future.

"Negotiations started a couple of months ago and went pretty smoothly," he said.

"It is a natural process. People think you go into a room, talk and it is done the next day.

"But these things take time and you just have to be patient.

"Now it is done and I am really glad to have signed."

UNITED HAVE AN EYE ON ANELKA

QUOTE
MANCHESTER UNITED are ready to nick Nicolas Anelka if his contract negotiations at Chelsea collapse.
The striker, 31, has only one year left on his Blues deal.

Talks are close to completion on a new two-year offer but United are ready to pounce if anything goes wrong.

Old Trafford boss Alex Ferguson is a long-time admirer of the well-travelled hitman.

He first looked at signing Anelka when he went on loan to Liverpool in 2002 and almost swooped again before he left Bolton for Chelsea in an £18million deal in January 2008.

The United gaffer landed Dimitar Berbatov from Spurs but the £30.75m signing has been a flop.

Fergie wants Anelka to replace the Bulgarian and he could get his man for a bargain £8m fee.

United want someone to support Wayne Rooney up front. Roo has 34 goals this season but United's next best is Berbatov on 12.

Anelka was the Premiership's top scorer last season with 19 and has 13 goals so far this campaign.

Same Again For Pulis

QUOTE
Posted on: Fri 07 May 2010

TONY PULIS has confirmed he will keep faith with the same starting eleven which picked up a superb 1-0 victory at Fulham for this Sunday's final game of the season against Premier League Championship hopefuls Manchester United.

Speaking at this morning's pre-match press conference the City boss said it would be unfair to make any changes to a side which has shown great character in bouncing back from the heavy defeat at Chelsea two weeks ago.

"It will be the same team and I think that is only fair on the lads who have done so well for us against Everton and Fulham," he told stokecityfc.com. "The only change may be Abdoulaye Faye coming back in on to the bench after overcoming his recent injury.

"To go out there after that hugely disappointing day at Chelsea and show so much character and spirit and pick up two great results tells you everything about our players. The lads who have done so well in the last two games deserve to go out there on Sunday and hopefully put in one last big effort, but we know how difficult the game is going to be.

He adds: "Hopefully we will have learned our lessons from Chelsea, but it is still difficult if the likes of Wayne Rooney are right on top of their games. The big sides can turn teams over if they aren't at 100% so we have got to go there be strong and keep doing what we have done over the last couple of games."

Sir Alex Ferguson's side know nothing less than a victory and a slip up by Chelsea at home to Wigan would be suffice for them to retain their Championship crown, and whilst Pulis admits the odds are against the Red Devils, he is convinced the Scotsman will eventually lead them to a record 19th league title.

"I think it's inevitable that he will do it," he says. "Whether that is this season or next season or another season remains to be seen. For me he is the greatest manager this country has ever seen. To keep them at the top and competing year in year out in both the Premier League and in Europe is remarkable.

"He has had to keep moving forward with the times and I think he has had to rebuild his squad four or five times and that really takes some doing. He is a great man and a great manager; someone I have a huge amount of respect for. That doesn't mean I don't want to go there and beat them on Sunday though."

Wow, if indeed we get Anelka he'll prob be the first player to play for all the big fours, that is if u still consider Liverpool as a big four. He's a bloody proper talent, and if stories of Aguero moving to Ski is true he might consider joining us. An Anelka Rooney partnership has the potential to be so awesome. But question marks... What will happen to Berba?

Shit, its The Sun... Forget what I said.

Here is something my friend told me. He said that after a match sure there's a team straight away celebrating with their trophy. IF the trophy is at old trafford and chelsea won the league title, then they must transport the trophy to there and its gonna take some time to deliver it there. My point is IF the trophy is at old trafford than manchester united will win the league title. I donno la this is a possibility only. Don't flame me.

I don't think so unless some players or the manager or their fan 'don't brush their teeth'. Stinky mouth, i guess you know what i mean.

We (United fan) don't have any problem with Arsenal before this season.

you must be kidding me, Aussie's soccer reputation is one of the most high rising in recent years , with the sports being played here as common as the Aussie rule Football, and you can see the Australian soccer team is getting stronger as year goes by.

Dimitar Berbatov is staying at Manchester United, declares Sir Alex Ferguson biggrin.gif

Sir Alex Ferguson will not dump his £30million striker Dimitar Berbatov despite another disappointing season.

The 29-year-old, the all-time leading scorer for Bulgaria, has divided opinion among United fans.

His critics question his attitude and insist he has not justified the United manager’s outlay that brought him from Tottenham two years ago.

He managed only 12 goals this season in 32 games and has scored only 21 times in total in the Premier League during his United career.

But his fans, including Ferguson, insist there are few better touch players around the area.

‘He is a very talented player and has a future at Manchester United,’ said Ferguson

Ya ya ... finish 1st would be a coup .. finished 2nd also ok since MU is labelled not so highly for selling CR7 and losing Tevez.

As for certain probable contender, still ranked lower than 4th this year.

I still believe in Berba. He's really good when we play 4-4-2 with Rooney partnering him. I know he hasnt had a good scoring season,or even a good season for that matter, but i still hope he stays and plays in the first team and proves us wrong next season.

With that being said,i was pulling my hair out watching him play like a 45 year old,hung-over old man against Sunderland tongue.gif

Rooney wants new striker

QUOTE
Wayne Rooney has called on Manchester United to open the cheque book and buy a big-name striker for next season.

The England star has enjoyed his most prolific campaign to date, being hailed PFA Player of the Year in the process, but that has not stopped him asking for support up front.

United head into the final day of the Premier League season having scored 82 goals this term, which is 14 more than last year but 13 less than rivals Chelsea.

The defending champions look likely to lose their crown to Chelsea later on Sunday and Rooney feels they need to bolster their front tine if they are to reclaim the title.

"If we can bring in two big-name players in it would give us a good chance of getting the league back if Chelsea do win it," he told The People.

"If you look at the team in 1999 that won the treble we had four forwards, all capable of scoring goals.

"Now there is me, (Dimitar) Berbatov and Michael Owen. There is Federico Macheda too, but if we can get one more top forward in it would give us the right balance."

Content

Speculation is rife that a number of clubs are planning audacious attempts to prise Rooney away from Old Trafford - although United are highly unlikely to sell him at any price. And the 24-year-old is happy to remain in Manchester.

He added: "I have two years left on my current contract so talks haven't started yet on a new one. But I am sure after the World Cup we will sit down and speak about a new deal."

Rooney, who is recovering from ankle and groin injuries, has had a fantastic season which has seen him notch 34 goals in all competitions.

His stunning form means United have barely registered the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo, who left to Real Madrid last summer, and Rooney is expecting more of the same next year.

He added: "I've been disappointed with the last month of the season with injuries but overall I am more than happy with the number of goals I have scored this season.

"The manager told me he would be playing me more up front and I knew that with Ronaldo and (Carlos) Tevez leaving I would have to score more goals.

"To score so many this time was fantastic - but it's still not my best season. I once scored 76 in a season when I was 11.

"But it's my best as a professional and I know the expectation will be there for me to do it again next season."

United still have faint hopes of retaining their Premier League crown and will do so if they beat Stoke and Wigan can get a result at Chelsea.

Success

However, Rooney believes their season should not be regarded as a failure if they end the campaign with only the Carling Cup.

He said: "Considering some of the problems we have had this season, like losing Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez from the squad, we have done well still to be fighting for the title.

"We have battled on and to still have a chance to win the League after the defeats we have had and the injuries to Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic is some achievement.

"I look back to the times when we have done well, especially in some important games like at AC Milan in the Champions League, in the derby games against Manchester City, and away games at Arsenal and Tottenham. I know we have performed at a high level."

Ya ya ... finish 1st would be a coup .. finished 2nd also ok since MU is labelled not so highly for selling CR7 and losing Tevez.

As for certain probable contender, still ranked lower than 4th this year.

Im proud that our season finished when the league ends. Not like a certain team which season ends in December every year except a fluke season last year.

true true, agree wth you guys said.if he is saying we need 2 that clearly indicates his partner(for the moment berba) is not doing some thing right.

owen is more of backup mean while macheda/diouf/javier/wellback is for the future.they will need a few more season imo.

Yeah. If I not mistaken, Campbell no longer Man Utd player. He is part of the deal that bring Berbatov to Old Trafford.

Edin Dzeko anyone? He will do well playing behind a striker IMO.. Nais 1st touch, got strength.. His partnership with Grafite is thumbup.gif
but one thing about him is he sometimes a bit lazy to track back..
Wolfsburg arent qualified for UCL/Europa League next season right? This is the best time to get him..
but our record with ex bundesliga player isnt good.. hargo sweat.gif berba sweat.gif

well this is the season where they got many favourable calls. Soccernet update also say the same thing, but it is probably those that can go either way, all depends on linesman.

Harapkan pagar, pagar pulak bangang. Wigan will be considered lucky if they were not thrashed tonight.

Anyway, Ski never drop a 2 goals lead, time to move on.

There are rumours (might be baseless ones) that say Tosic wants to leave, due to lack of 1st team chances and I think Obertan hasn't gotten his work permit yet; always tricky, those.

But rather than congratulating Chelsea, I rather congratulate our team. With high profile exits, we were written off at the start of the season. To come so close to winning it is something we should be proud of.

Obertan is French lah. No need work permit. Tosic wants assurance of being a squad player at least. Can't blame him since he doesn't even get a look in for most of his time here. Not sure if he can get it. But if he's patient for another season or two, with Giggs getting older, a spot will open up. He's a handly little player. As a left winger he won't cut it, but play him centrally in an advanced role or on the right cutting in, he might do some damage.

kononnya "Oh we will not go down without a fight!"

BAH. Pathetic. looks like 7-1. Happy 100 goal for Chelsea.

Congrats Berbatov. Abang Own Goal outscores you.

Congrats Man Utd. 3-0 win stylo mylo, but a win is a win, 1 point behind is an achievement.

We lost 2 key players, but we are 1 point behind.

They needed a new person in charge to win a title.

We, on the other hand, are loyal to our one and only Sir Alex Ferguson.

Anyway, good season, if we take what happen before this season start.

Congratulations all of you guys who still in good mood to support United, I bet that some "fans" are now planning a raid to Adidas to swap their United Red to Chelsea Blue biggrin.gif

Keep the faith, and never fear!

they are signing their hearts out! Unlike other teams who talks so much about who to buy, who to sack, we actually give ourselves a pat at the back even when not winning. I love that attitude biggrin.gif

Chelsea = Drogba, lampard, anelka, malouda, even ashley cole got 4 league goals..

Gratz to them, 7-0 x 3, 8-0 x 1. we shall be back stronger (after offloading Berba)

I still happy with the 2nd place finish considering we lost 2 superstars and unable to get good replacements. Chelsea really deserved to win this yr's league.

There Will Always Be One United - Manchester United - There will be winners and there will be losers, but after losing 2 key players, such and injury crisis back in December and being able to put up such a big battle for the title, I'm very proud to say, Well Done Manchester United, Well Done Sir Alex Ferguson.

last but not least, for Berbatov haters, take a good look at that man for the past few games. It's not that he doesnt want to perform, he's a just a striker without luck. Stick with him lads, he will perform for us.

Nah, this season had been a great performance for us imho.

This year's start had been really awesome. In terms of team, we lost 2 out of our 3 holy trinities, Ronaldo, our 30+ goal scorer moved on and our last goal messiah, Tevez had gone to our rivals. By the start, we had already a lot of people writing us off. Being able to challenge and push the wire all the way to the last game of the season has been exceptional.

Throughout the season, our defense has been tattered and torned apart. Flecther played at RB and Carrick played at CD at times, yet our defense boasted being one of the best records in the season.

We got our best start of the season, we got our Godlike Rooney back, we got our 2nd Portugese Wizard Nani finally revealing his real self and we've got our best scottish player back to his best maurauding self. I'm damn hell happy with the team this season, and I remain proud of my team for this season.

As for Chelsea winning the title, let's just say that they performed better than us. The best team probably won this season and we can only blame us for dropping points when we really needed to. A 100% record against the big 4 really isn't easy and under Carlo they've really look formidable at times, with the best coming out of Drogba, Anelka, Malouda and even Kalou (who would have seen that hattrick coming?).

Worthy champions? Hell yea. Let's just be good sportspersons and congrat the winners. We'll be back again next season. As the same fight for every season every time.

Actually there's a lot of positives this season. First, the coming of Valencia, who gave us good attacking berth on the right flank. Secondly, Nani FINALLY maturing into the player SAF wanted him to be. Thirdly, Fletcher and Evra's amazing consistency whenever they played.

Keep the core, probably offload some of the REALLY poor performers, and with 1-2 good additions we'll come back stronger in August.

its a transition season, we did quite good with the injuries, bad decisions and lost of quality players..
the hardest thing to do is to retain the title, we did it 3 times and that impressive..

we will bounce back. Form is temporary, Class is permanent. United!
