Nah, this season had been a great performance for us imho.
This year's start had been really awesome. In terms of team, we lost 2 out of our 3 holy trinities, Ronaldo, our 30+ goal scorer moved on and our last goal messiah, Tevez had gone to our rivals. By the start, we had already a lot of people writing us off. Being able to challenge and push the wire all the way to the last game of the season has been exceptional.
Throughout the season, our defense has been tattered and torned apart. Flecther played at RB and Carrick played at CD at times, yet our defense boasted being one of the best records in the season.
We got our best start of the season, we got our Godlike Rooney back, we got our 2nd Portugese Wizard Nani finally revealing his real self and we've got our best scottish player back to his best maurauding self. I'm damn hell happy with the team this season, and I remain proud of my team for this season.
As for Chelsea winning the title, let's just say that they performed better than us. The best team probably won this season and we can only blame us for dropping points when we really needed to. A 100% record against the big 4 really isn't easy and under Carlo they've really look formidable at times, with the best coming out of Drogba, Anelka, Malouda and even Kalou (who would have seen that hattrick coming?).
Worthy champions? Hell yea. Let's just be good sportspersons and congrat the winners. We'll be back again next season. As the same fight for every season every time.
The team always had the ability to perform even without Ronaldo and Tevez. Most people believed it was those two that brought so much to the side forgetting the rock solid defence, the dependable and solid midfield and of course Rooney and the other striking options. Evra said it best that the star at United is the team.
Injuries haven't been kind for us this season. But to be fair to Chelsea and the others, they have their own problems with the same issues too.
In the CL, on another night, it could have been Bommel that got a 2nd yellow instead of Rafael and seeing us in the final instead of Bayern. And what if the linesman didn't pocket some money in the OT game against Chelsea?

It's a fine line between success and failure. We just got on the wrong side on those two occasions. But that doesn't hide the fact that we perform poorly throughout the season. The away game against Bayern, and that performance against Chelsea at home.. never expected us to play that badly. Ultimately that was our downfall on both occasions. Not to mention the other games we've lost and dropped points in the league. We definitely could and should have been played better.
The future is still bright. Keep the same core, and hopefully see some improvements in the likes of Rafael, Evans, Anderson, Gibson, Macheda, Welbeck and the others, we'll be just as strong if not better. Anderson especially need to step up big time. Scholes won't last too much longer. And Gibson really should offer more than just his shooting boots.

What is a playmaker? With the way we play most of the time, not sure we have room for one anyways.
