QUOTE(perfect10 @ Aug 19 2014, 12:08 PM) i own a 2012 sony Vaio S (VPCSB16FG) I am wondering if I can swap out the HDD and replace it with SSD and will it improve the performance by alot? e.g opening programs / multi tasking between programs? Ps: Its and i5 and already on 8gb ram for sure faster boot up... fast opening of programs... and 8GB is sufficient enough to multi-task but ofcourse depends on what programs are you doing multi-tasking with hope this helps

if you can still open and run windows just make a recovery dvd... otherwise download all necessary stuff from sony support site and re-install everything manually.

QUOTE(altecphoto @ Aug 8 2014, 07:59 AM) Hi guys, owner of a Sony vaio pro 13 i5(SVP132A1CW) here. Does anyone know if its possible to upgrade the 4gb ram or the 128gb ssd? Cannot be upgraded since the SSD and RAM is soldered on the mother board .... however, if the SSD is using the M.2 SATA ... perhaps still got chance ... but how will you open up the notebook to access the SSD ?

I don't think it is necessary to change again, if you think you have applied it properly. Possibly it is coming from inside the fan, specifically the fan motor at the centre which drives the fan. You checked that out already also?

What noise? Just loud or sound like broken bearing?

QUOTE(anoris wen @ Aug 11 2015, 07:28 PM) Hi, my Sony vaio laptop makes noise when pressing On button even after cleaning the fan and thermal repaste. Also, the thermal paste is 1 year old after opening it and is it possible that the thermal paste is not effective or should I buy a new thermal paste to repaste again on my laptop ? fan noise, as in max fan speed noise? continuous? open up a monitoring software and check temp.

Ofcourse its not the thermal paste my guess is you did not slot the heatsink back properly so either its not secured tightly and it vibrates when the fan is on

Any specific dimension or brand or spec that I need to take note? I replaced mine with Kingston SSD Now V300 240GB sometime last year. Fits well. You can find something of a similar dimension with this model if you prefer another SSD. For the replacement guide, kindly refer to this video tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eskd33vfvTAHope this helps!
