QUOTE(niel @ May 7 2010, 07:06 PM) I used to be a Symbian fan until I got myself an iPhone (for sis actually). It does not have everything that a more technical inclined group are after, but it has everything that the bigger group, the mass consumer is after - basic functions that simply fast and easier to use. Enough of the ordeal with Nokia, phone crashed after thousands of SMS, happened since 6680 until now - their flagship N97. Not forgetting having to wait for even a Messaging apps to fully load. Hanging every now and then.. etc. n97 really disappointing Hope N8 will turns thing over, but it is too late Nokia... N97 will be the last phone I bought from you. but still got hope in this n8 |

QUOTE(zero_kbom @ May 7 2010, 02:49 AM) Woot2 again...this time... Wah. Cool. This is what I want too!![]() It's the N8 USB On the Go in action Noticed that the USB drive was detected as the G:\ drive in the file manager Credit here Imagine your camera ran out of space, you don't have a pc or external storage, plug the card to this and store the pictures in your N8 equipped with 16GB of internal storage. One good selling point! |

QUOTE(-kytz- @ May 8 2010, 01:40 AM) Heard someone stating this in a previous post . But anyway , most of the phones using Symbian OS has HD compatibility which on the other hand , others don't. (In the future , they will tho eg . EVO 4G) What i'm trying to say here is , Symbian OS supports HD without a Snapdragon and Android , WM and such probably needs one to support it as those are heavy-OS . (Just my Opinion). |

QUOTE(freakenstein @ May 8 2010, 12:17 AM) Symbian OS doesn't need a Snapdragon because it isn't a heavy-OS as the Android and WM an so on (Correct me if wrong). Symbian OS was one of the lightweight mobile OS...hence the lack of more powerful processor in it.But coupled with the small footprint, the adequate processing power and we're looking at the most energy efficient OS in the mobile world.. Need proof? Well just look at the E- Series phones and even the newer N97/ N97 Mini...Great battery life N not to mention, the UI of android OS was not being accelerated by GPU, putting more strain onto the processor and hence the need of extra oomph in terms of processing power. And this also bring together not so good batt life While in Symbian^3, the UI was being accelerated by the GPU, hence bringing together better efficiency and better battery life. The same caveat applies here, correct me if I'm wrong And yes, USB OTG was full of win |

QUOTE(-kytz- @ May 8 2010, 02:36 AM) Yeah i've to admit that the Sense UI is very pretty but it takes a lot of extra processing power to render the Sense UI tho and which means it does drain battery faster than a Symbian OS . |

But you do know that the determining factor to choose a phone has got to be the OS itself

Better if I say that Symbian^3= S60v5 on steroid But in terms of raw functionality, Symbian trumps other OS. And supposedly, Symbian^4 will bring Symbian if not better, on par with other OS in terms of UI. And lets not get started on the real multitasking on Symbian. Proof? Me right now on9 with Opera Mini while typing my essay using Quickoffice+ downloading torrent on the background using Symtorrent+ listening to music using the default music player+ keeping check with tweets using Gravity. All of these were done on my Nokia N97, an Symbian S60v5 powered device, while lying on my bed |

Choosing a phone is basically by personal preference .
If u don't mind getting to charge your phone every single day then get an Android device. For me , Symbian uses less battery consumption and therefore , has a lower specs . Symbian^3 is an entire diff platform compare to Symbian^1 well not sure about the claim of probably just a cosmestic thingy..I have been using Winmo b4 switching over to Symbian...& 1 thing for sure..Winmo really lag & complicated compare to Sykbian even running on a higher processor speed. Evfen a Omnia1 lagged compare to a 420Mhz Nokia 5800. Same goes to my even older Asus P535. The new gen Wni7 no idea. Is it out dy?? For android, I pretty like it actually having try the HTC legend for a while & switching the Home screen menu abit like ifon liao..cool.. Too bad HTC having one bad thing..Their camera & video cam really cacat. If not I already got one. rather than buying the SE Vivaz which still using Symbian^1 QUOTE(-kytz- @ May 8 2010, 01:52 AM) |
