hmmmm

My N900 still cant be detected by Pc Suite yet. :3 thought i want to update the latest firmware.

tried Unistall/Reinstall the Pc suite but still the same.
when plug in the USB. N900 prompt 1)Mass storage Mode 2)Pc suite mode.

Mass storage mode can enter the Nokia Internal Hdisk and SD card.
Pc suite mode then nothing happen. thought computer said found N900.

sigh......any brother encouted this ?
*
try manual flashing it is really fast (apart from downloading the .bin file)

Does anyone have serious or minor hardware defects with your N900? One of the major I always stumble at when I'm researching about it is that some units have faulty USB ports which only functional in charging using USB cable and not the charger itself. Some even completely unusable.

On software wise, some even experience slowdown in performance and even randomly restarting itself. Should I be worry? hmm.gif
*
AFAIK, the faulty USB port should have been fixed. It should only affect pre-production models. But it doesn't mean it won't happen tough.
In case it really happen, there're guide in YouTube and the Web to teach you how to dissemble the phone and fix this, or you can send to shop for repair.

Software side, it really depends; Most probably is the apps installed. TO double-triple confirm, try to do a fresh install and don't install any apps. See if it happens. I doubt it will happen. It's the same for Windows. Unless it's really hardware issues (e.g. ram, etc), if it's really hardware, get it claimed (if still under warranty).

Randomly restart/reboot can lead to serious issue (e.g. bricked N900; and you need to use flasher tool to save it). Install HealthCheck, there you can see the "BOOT COUNT", from what I read, never let it reach or over 32 times.
If you manually restart your phone, this counter will reset back to zero. So if you notice your BOOT COUNT increases, quickly restart your phone.
There's also "BOOT REASON", which shows what causes your phone to reboot itself; The reason usually is the watchdog process. I've encountered once in PR1.2, never in older firmwares, and it happens during the battery is low. I don't usually let my battery go low.

I thought the back button would work like windows. Load your previous page or earlier pages without loading it back.

The history on PR 1.1 is good except every page must load
*
Something many people might not notice missing, the "History" button.

To get the History, touch and hold the back "Back ARROW" key beside the "+" (bookmark) sign. It'll launch the History page.

I heard the boot brick issue has been addressed with PR1.1-1.1.1? Please verify as I restart daily through fcron to make sure the N900 performs well through the day (though it locks up occasionally anyway and requires a shut down: read below).

Anyhow, I've come to the conclusion that the Hildon apps menu does not like to be edited on the fly anymore. Used to be able to do it easily from xterm in PR1.1.1 but editing .desktop or .menu files now leads to a freeze when saving the files that requires me to longpress power to shut down.

Prolly has to do with the new menu.

Edited menus still work though, mine's back to my original configuration edi.

Same case here, thought it was down for upgrades. I DID play with useragent, but restored the customizations edi. Maybe I should remove the app.

Hopefully it's been addressed, I didn't follow the news already, just try to prevent the boot count goes high just in case, hehe. It should be addressed because there're many types of users for N900, imagine those just use as a daily phone with some basic usage, and suddenly the phone bricked for no reason, it is ridiculous. It should be a priority fix.
