Yes and Yes.
There's nothing to fix there as it was intended that way. If you want to use Sandy Bridge graphics and maintain overclocking ability(via multiplier, BCLK is out of question), wait for the Z68 Chipset.

All sandy bridge products includes desktop, notebook and servers affected. Even Mac Pros will have to wait longer.

Intel losing a lot of money here, not to mention all the OEMs/Manufacturers that are pissed by this fiasco, not yet including the end-users of course. biggrin.gif

Kind of reminds me of the TLP processor bug on AMD a few years back.

No lar, you can still continue using it but just using the sata 6mbps port that is not affected. From the info i gather, the intel sataII problem will not affect your HDD, just that there will potentially be some data corruption or the performance will suffer. On the safe side, just using the sata 6 mbps port.

It is not like it will damage all the parts in your cpu. Just wait for an annoucement from the mobo manufacturer on what will they do to replace the mobo(if they decided to).

a recall is the best case.
they just need to remove the P67 chip and replace a new revise version, run some test and they are good to go. smile.gif

but the rework of removing the P67 chip from the mobo will actually affect the reliability of the board as it will need to pass through reflow another 2 times, 1 to remove the chip, 1 to attach a new chip.

LOL..it's not that easy as plug and play yo. Many boards die after that.

If the motherboard die, I think Gigabyte has the better ideas how to make use of phailed motherboards...

Actually, here's a question..

HOW many of you guys here ACTUALLY uses a SSD as a boot drive?
I belief the majority are still on mechanical HDDs, which can't even saturate a 3Gbps port to begin with.

So.. really, JUST use the 3gbps ports?

No, the 3gbps ports are having problems, that is why many of us here are recommended to switch our to the 6gbps ports to avoid any data loss or corruption that may arise.

i bet that most of you after reading this kind of news will run some test, either using atto, sisoft or whatsoever, and find out that their "performance" read/write of hdd will "drop". of course, and most of you will get "placebo effect syndrom". right now i don't see any problem of my sata ports, because:

1. using 1 hard disk and one dvd-rw, both connected to sata0 & 1 which is sata3.0
2. based on my records, i use so-called latest technology, which the existing system will stands for a year (previous board, processor sold after 1 years usage, the previous before this previous used only 4 months biggrin.gif)

since they said "within 3 years", i don't care. the only thing i care is i registered my product(motherboard) with asus and they should track me down if replacement is available.

in the future, i hope that intel will design their southbridge that can be plugged in/out like a processor, ram and others. or just move the southbridge into processor die like northbridge.

This is seriously getting me worried, as I plan to use this rig for 7yrs or 10yrs. vmad.gif Hopfully they can do direct 1 to 1 exchange for new mobo. Not regular RMA with refurbished parts/mobo. My AthlonXP lasted me 8yrs b4 its mobo fail.

The problem only affects SATA port 2 to 5. SATA 0 and 1 is not affected. If you don't use a lot of hard disks, u are fine. Go read this again.
