How would you describe the sound signature when pairing with the HDVD800? Last I've heard it sounded cold and sterile and for the price I agree with you as other better options exists like decware amps

Indeed it sounds cold and sterile to my ears.
The sibilance is still pronounce, maybe coz lack of burn-in for the amp.

At that price, I was expecting the amp to wow me on my first listen.
Maybe I set my expectation too high

Saw some review from Taiwan forum, the reviewer said that if WA22 is 80%, then HDV600 just score 10%. haha

I did own the over-ear Momentum for a few months but sold it later as the cup is a bit on the small side and I also need the money to fund for my Fostex TH600.
I had the chance to audition the on-ear a few times but I do find them a bit bassy compared to the over-ear version.
Maybe it is tune that way as they are meant to be portable and used outside. More bass tends to drown out outside noise so I do understand their thinking.
However, the on-ear headband is a bit on the small side and on my larger than normal head  blush.gif , the cups have to go almost all the way down, and it's not that comfortable for me.
So if you really like the on-ear, do wear them for 1-2 hours straight when you audition them and see if the comfort is OK with you or not.

On a different matter, I had the chance to audition the HDVD800 with HD800 at Stereo ION, SG yesterday.

Honestly speaking, I'm not going to shell S$2.7k for this amp to partner it with my HD800.
They don't have balance cable for HD800 so can only audition them single-ended.
At this configuration, I think I got better pleasure running my HD800 from my WA7 amp, at half the price of HDVD800.

For the price of 2.7k SGD i think Sennheiser is abit too much.

I think basically they outsource their Amp, and stamp their logo.

Had heard good things bout the momentum, just had the chance to audition a pair of on ear momentum at Jaben and my oh my why have I not discovered the momentum sooner? I was really amazed at the sound, very fun with great bass, felt that the bass was better controlled compared to my HFI-580 and without the sibilance i find annoying with the Ultrasone, really good for EDM.

Never thought an on ear could sound so impressive, the performance does justify the price tag. Guess i got stung by the Momentum poison haha, gonna get myself a pair soon, but are there any sonic differences between the on ear and over ear version? Thanks

I know it might be too late to say this but it is better to get the amperior instead of the momentum on ear (moe). Amperior now costs less than the rrp of moe. I own both and both is fun to listen with but the mid in moe is really too recessed for my taste.

The cups on the amperior feels too small for me, sounds fairly balanced compared to moe. MOE is a really fun sounding headphone, comfortable as well, but i feel that I'll get bored with the sound eventually haha, so that's y I'm saving for the HD600 atm, after spending so much on many cheap gears might as well save up and get one "high-end" phone and be done with it haha biggrin.gif

Just bought a Momentum (the full sized ones, not the on ear one) and quite disappointed with sound quality. I feel like it's similar standard to my Bose qc20i. sad.gif

Hi Imsilly, you can always loan me the Momentum LOL. I'm more than happy to warm my ears with that can.

No, actually I'm looking fwd to spend some $ and replace my good ol' PX 100-II with something shiny. I'm looking at

1. HD 25-1 II, or
2. Momentum.

Them prices are almost similar, and never audition neither of the two. Around KL, where can I audition them?

I'm going to use the 25 or Momentum just like I use the 100; Movies & TV series, on the road music, and classy sex videos.

Any suggestions, pro & cons what have you?

I would be more than happy to let you audition mine out, however, I am currently studying in the States right now so I think letting you have a go at it would be out of the question.

I never had any "real" earphones/headphones before, previously I was using just a Klipsch s4i and purchased the Bose QC20i last year and only about a month ago I bought this Momentums.
I commute daily to school using the subways in NYC so I tend to alternative my Bose with my new Momentums. Of course the Momentums will produce a higher quality sound than the Bose, probably at most 30% better.
Although the Momentums can't block the sounds of the subways and the bustling sounds of the crowds and the traffic of the city, I must say for your use of movies and tv series, on the road music, you shouldn't have a problem with that. As for classy sex videos, (I'm guessing that is porn) unless you are a premium member where you get full HD videos and shit like that, any earphones will do the trick for you. Too good earphones for free porn videos will only amplify the poor quality of the porn audio.

Please take my advice strictly with a pinch of salt- I'm no audiophile.
Hope that helps.

Tried 332 + HD600 and it sounds wonderful rclxms.gif
Btw, what DAC you're using?

I'm kind of between liking Sennheiser's and Audio Technica's sound signature. sweat.gif

nuforce, not the best around but my friend lend me lol.

i find that the 339 gives some pros and cons, the soundstage is amazing and the clarity is better. in response tho, it makes bad records SOUND like bad records and digitial music terrible. i cant describe it but somehow my senn sudd picks up shit that i previously didnt hear on ym darkvoice 336. i think the 332 will be almost the same in that aspect

i never tried AT's stuff but im not soo big and audio geek

Jesus the price of senheiser's nowadays sometimes u just to ask urself whether the money goes to the brand or the quality of the item itself, always liked them but nowadays with china popping out with cheaper brands and high quality equipments rather torn with getting any audio supply from one or the other.

brand and quality,

top end senns are not made in china hence why its more expensive, in the upper range senn is prb the most reasonably priced headphone out there.

china competitors can and may offer something to rival senn, but ive yet to see one a lot of them have bad workmanship

^ i agree with ya, with china made its kinda a gamble whether it would sink or swim, and its always a good way when ur about to splurge, it's always a solid choice to go to the upper echelons of brands to just feel safe and trust they would last longer, but with more and more sites reviewing the newer comer you could sometimes get lucky and get a high end equipments for lower price.

site reviews are kinda meh to be honest, im not sayhing you are wrong but in genearl a site review cannot determine the durability of a product. interestingly ive not seen a bad site review for anything. laugh.gif

that being said, you can get lucky when going china which i agree, my amp is china made and my previous one too and they are great stuff. but for senns i think its hard to compare, ive yet to hear anyone copy a senn or any of these high end stuff, if u like the china stuff well no harm for it

nah its not like i prefer china stuff over senn , if u lemme pick i'd go senn any day of the week over any china brands, its branding reliability like denon, bose , akg grado, shure etc ensures that big money u spent is worth every penny ofc, and i do agree the audio equipment like many other things in life u have to test it on your own and see the compatibility of the stuff with your current setup, it being congruent with your ergonomics etc. The thing is i'm not complaining bout senn being unreliable and neither did i ever state that china branding would be a better choice for everyone,

i'm just saying that with a little bit of research and knowledge you could tell that whatever technology they use in any audio equipment is at the end of the day can be replicated at high precision if not perfectly could still reproduce the sounds at high fidelity, and it's not just china , it could be reproduced in europe, japan, or even malaysia, i'm just taking china for example as they are giants in industrial works and would provide cheaper product via cheaper labour and cheaper raw supplies. (when u research the hardware devices in certain audio modules u can generally tell the layout and components are sometimes the same;and yet the prices differ by alot, like 3:1 ratio despite having almost similar product at hand , amps especially)

And again if i'd ever splurge and want something more substantial and last long i'd always go for the safer well known brand, currently using Bose and Denon headsets myself, was just poking around sennheiser's stuff now and then to look around the iem market, it's a matter of price vs actuality of what u really get, a clear example is when u buy let's say below 300rm iem for urself, if u wanna enjoy music on the go would u go for low end sen or high end no name brand ( let's say you tested both and the difference is rather heaven and earth and the quality is almost the same) , it just begs the question sometimes that ur just buying the brand just like cars and many other things in life. Again if the budget is 1500 or so i'd go to senn any day, and again i'm not supporting any particular brands, cause u seem to assume i like china stuff in your quote, i'm just laying out a legitimate question.
