Finally,
Bite the bullet on a Momentum, but in black.
Also bought JVC HA-FXT90 and Comply tips for wifey to replace the spoilt UE Supe.Fi 5vi.
Persuaded her to get Shure SE215 but she prefers the sound of the JVC.
As long as she's happy and not Beats Audio.... lol!

Tried SE535 Ltd, UE 900, W4r.... but still cannot find one that can really make me smile... maybe I should just bite the bullet and get a custom?

My portable rigs...
Just love the Momentum.... but the AK100 is underpowered to fully drive the Senn.
Sometimes need to crank the volume to the max at 75.
If not, have to bring in the JDS Labs C5 amp to power the Senn

Woaw, i thought AK100 shouldnt have problem with low impedance headphone @.@.

Currently i'm using it with IEM.

If I'm listening in quiet environment, easily at 60-65 level.
If I'm taking public transport, easily 70 to max to mask the surrounding noise.

using the momentum in non-aircond room, anyone tried that? ears boleh tahan kah?

anyone using it without amp or dac?

Which Momentum?
I have been using the over-ear version since Feb this year.
In non-aircond room, 1 hour usage can still tahan before the ears start to sweat.

They are very easy to drive.
I can plug direct to my AK120 headphone out, with volume level at 60/75 or about 80% vol on iP5.
At home, sometimes I plug it to Audioengine D1 USB DAC out of MBP, or iFi iCAN connected to AK120.

I'm now aiming for the Senn HD800 or Fostex TH900 drool.gif

My love affair with Sennheiser.

1. IE8 - my first 4 figures IEM. Lost it on a bus ride... dang!
2. Momentum over-ear - sold it to fund for Fostex TH600
3. HD800 - traded my AK120 for this beast

Planning to pair the HD800 with HDVA 600, but the local distributor seems not in a hurry to bring it in....
Ended up join the massdrop for WA7.

Had heard good things bout the momentum, just had the chance to audition a pair of on ear momentum at Jaben and my oh my why have I not discovered the momentum sooner? I was really amazed at the sound, very fun with great bass, felt that the bass was better controlled compared to my HFI-580 and without the sibilance i find annoying with the Ultrasone, really good for EDM.

Never thought an on ear could sound so impressive, the performance does justify the price tag. Guess i got stung by the Momentum poison haha, gonna get myself a pair soon, but are there any sonic differences between the on ear and over ear version? Thanks
*
I did own the over-ear Momentum for a few months but sold it later as the cup is a bit on the small side and I also need the money to fund for my Fostex TH600.
I had the chance to audition the on-ear a few times but I do find them a bit bassy compared to the over-ear version.
Maybe it is tune that way as they are meant to be portable and used outside. More bass tends to drown out outside noise so I do understand their thinking.
However, the on-ear headband is a bit on the small side and on my larger than normal head blush.gif , the cups have to go almost all the way down, and it's not that comfortable for me.
So if you really like the on-ear, do wear them for 1-2 hours straight when you audition them and see if the comfort is OK with you or not.

On a different matter, I had the chance to audition the HDVD800 with HD800 at Stereo ION, SG yesterday.

Honestly speaking, I'm not going to shell S$2.7k for this amp to partner it with my HD800.
They don't have balance cable for HD800 so can only audition them single-ended.
At this configuration, I think I got better pleasure running my HD800 from my WA7 amp, at half the price of HDVD800.

How would you describe the sound signature when pairing with the HDVD800? Last I've heard it sounded cold and sterile and for the price I agree with you as other better options exists like decware amps
*
Indeed it sounds cold and sterile to my ears.
The sibilance is still pronounce, maybe coz lack of burn-in for the amp.

At that price, I was expecting the amp to wow me on my first listen.
Maybe I set my expectation too high

thanks so much!!

is the momentum that cheap in malaysia? when i googled its like 1k AUD ++ !

Got few variations of Momentum.
Version 1 have both the on-ear and over-ear.

Version 2 have over-ear wired, over-ear wireless with noise cancelling, on-ear.

I believed the priced of Version 1 have dropped a lot after the launched of V2
