Just received my 13" this morning. Ecstatic! Pictured here next to my housemate's 15" i7 Anti-glare screen. ![]() Both screen looks fine but my glossy display does reflect backlight (duh). Color is very, very nice and lively though. As some have commented, it does look slightly better than the anti-glare display. This being my first mac, I'm still getting used to Mac OS. I'm wondering if I should partition the hd as boot camp doesn't seem to work with a partitioned primary hd. Will be posting unboxing pix if I have the time. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

After using my new 13" mbp for one week, I must say that I have no regrets at all switching from Windows. This is one of the best IT purchases I've ever gotten. I'm still being surprised by what I can do with this machine. Customising the multitouch trackpad is a must.
However my battery life is only around 5 hours if I'm reading Google Reader on Chrome with iTunes with 50% brightness - far from the 10 hours battery life claim. I know that some are saying that it's due to flash. But how is browsing nowadays possible flash-free right? (Apple based their 10 hours on "light web browsing at 50% brightness") I wonder if my battery life is "normal".. I know it's a little late to show an unboxing shot but.... ![]() Video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGO0Qk24ZaA This post has been edited by lancefire: May 7 2010, 08:32 AM |

QUOTE(Ojimaru @ May 6 2010, 10:38 AM) Get Flash Block and AdBlock for Chrome. Thanks for the info. I guess mine's pretty normal then. I've been using Chrome exclusively for months now and can't really get used to safari and firefox. It is much speedier IMHO but battery life drops significantly when I'm using it as compared to firefox. I think installing the extensions you've suggested is a good idea..To date, the only computer device I've known to meet battery life claims (without need to bend over backwards) is the iPad (Wifi only). Multitasking (e.g. iTunes), using WiFi, viewing Flash, etc will reduce your battery life significantly. 5 hours is pretty normal and is what most reviewers have reported, where 8-9 hours is when you REALLY bend over. |

QUOTE(esssymanex @ May 7 2010, 11:16 AM) Then u should go to Windows Laptop since on Mac has limited games and not so very powerful graphic if compared spec per price. Yup you're right. Besides the obvious hardware difference, at the present there is no role for gaming on the Mac unless you're just playing all the big publishers who sometimes publish on Mac.Hope this help. |

QUOTE(ron4 @ May 20 2010, 01:54 PM) Yeah me also same situation with u, bought MBP 13' last 2 weeks. Now MBW is reducing its price to RM3299 with alsmost same spec with my MBP except RAM. But i dont regret, i love my MBP so much hehe. But eventhough the spec are almost the same, but MBP got a few advantages compare to MBW, like backlit keyboard, aluminium unibody, firewire, much better LED screen, glass trackpad, mini display port, SD card slot and more thinner I have a 13" MBP too. Logically, whatever upgrades that the MBP offers has no effect on the average user who just wants to surf the net and watch videos. However, if given a choice to buy a MBW or MBP, I would still go for MBP because the aluminium body is nicer and I would pay rm500 just for that. In fact the main reason I bought a mac is because the unibody design is great. Don't really give two hoots about firewire (who uses them nowadays anyway) or potential ram upgrades (which I probably wouldn't take advantage of). |

QUOTE(keepme88 @ May 20 2010, 05:24 PM) I tried using magic mouse on windows 7 and it worked out of the box (It was detected as a Bluetooth Mouse). But I wouldn't recommend it if you're using it on a PC as it just feels "out". There is some lag and multitouch is not supported. However, if you're thinking of using it for a second OS on a Mac I guess it's fine.I honestly think that the design is too slim for good ergonomics. There is an imminent fear of "clicking" when all you want to do is multitouch or move the mouse around. If you're thinking of gaming using a magic mouse, I think you're better off putting your money on better mice. |

QUOTE(tarvalslain87 @ May 20 2010, 11:07 PM) You tried it with your bootcamp Windows 7? Cause previously there is a forumer did complain it cant function well in his bootcamped Windows 7 so I suggested him to download some drivers which can be googled... Not sure about Parallel/VMWare... I tried mine using Parallels Desktop. Maybe he can try updating his Windows 7. It might help. |

QUOTE(tarvalslain87 @ May 27 2010, 07:39 PM) Rofl its the fact of life "You get for what you pay" =) So higher priced products should have better service/products.. Cant compare Dell and Apple... Its comparing between Proton and maybe a Honda(give face abit)... haha Actually Dell's on-site service is really good. You don't even have to be in the Klang valley to get service. My friend's laptop had problems 2 months after purchase (bought in Low Yat) and after I made a call, a technician came the next to Seremban to change the motherboard on the spot. My other friend who had another problem with her Dell also got her parts changed on the spot for free - although her warranty had already expired by 1 month. I can't say the same for Apple, Toshiba and the others though.Added on May 28, 2010, 1:25 am QUOTE(tarvalslain87 @ May 27 2010, 07:39 PM) Rofl its the fact of life "You get for what you pay" =) So higher priced products should have better service/products.. I didn't need any other softwares and had no problems at all..PROBLEM ONE: when i create a partition for bootcamp, the partition cannot be formatted, i got an error saying that "the disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved" SOLUTION: 1) Install Onyx and do SMART scan.. then Onyx said that my disk dunno got wat (forget d) and i need to put in the Mac OS X disc to repair 2) Put in the Mac OS X CD and restart Mac, hold C when booting up 3) press next and DONT REINSTALL MAC, on top of the toolbar, choose disk utility, then verify disk, then repair disk 4) restart Mac and go into the OS, then make partition again, this time ok d.. some other solutions found on the net: (i didn't try) a) install iDefrag (not free) b) backup your OS, reformat the whole OS, restore and run Boot Camp Assistant again c) put in Mac OS X CD, hold C while booting, then go to disk utility to make new partition, then delete the partition PROBLEM TWO when I want to start the installation, there is a problem saying that the drivers not found and no matter u press rescan or browse anywhere.. still not found SOLUTION: 1) if u are in Virtual Windows, u can eject the CD and put it back, but in Boot Camp, u cant do it before u install windows and install the mac driver for windows. 2) restart the Mac and run the Windows 7 installation until the drivers not found didn't pop out, if lucky, maybe 2 or 3 times.. but maybe... (maybe because my CD is... u know) PROBLEM THREE After the installation, at the final step, "COMPLETING INSTALLATION", it looks like the installation is hang already, because need to wait until 20 minutes also nothing happen.. SOLUTION 1) just wait, i just wait for about 40 min - 1 hour.. then the Mac will show white screen for several minutes, then only successfully boot into Windows OS 2) I tried to force restart, but end up the windows crash and i need to install again and face problem two.. good luck to u guys... 2) This post has been edited by lancefire: May 28 2010, 01:29 AM |

QUOTE(nimrod323 @ Jun 10 2010, 09:49 PM) the battery you guys need to see your usage frst, the 10-9 hours have to be gauged from these settings: Actually Apple based theirs on 50% brightness. Which is what I did also. And I meant just firefox and finder open. And also flash is disabled unless I wanna view Youtube.- screen brightness at 20% - just surfing - word documents only |

QUOTE(nimrod323 @ Jun 10 2010, 09:56 PM) from my experience the apple recommendation cant be trusted, plus if you notice the battery time fluctuates at time, just my observation it also depends on your room ventilation and air flow, never put your mac on a bed while doing testing, restricts air flow. yeah I agree with you about that.. |

QUOTE(lexcorp @ Jun 15 2010, 09:51 PM) Hey Thankz for the awesome comparison. Now i understand completely. I played MW2 and splinter cell using boot camp on 13" 2.4 gHz. graphics best at mid range to avoid lag. but its really not bad at all.I'm planning to use it for some movies , music and also some games( COD , modern warfare 2 , star crafts , assassins creed 2 , splinter cells etc etc.) I'm not sure what is the graphics consumptions of those games. |
