QUOTE(Grif @ Jul 25 2013, 12:52 PM) I trust others more than RPS.RPS has been nitpicking on stupid things in lots of games while making their articles more and more difficult to read as they just keep shoving random shit between useful information. Not to forget that they said NFS MW 2012 is one of the best racing games ever. No, just no, its awful in every way. Then, you have idiotic articles like this appearing RPS: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/07/24...ks/#more-161827 http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/07/24...ed/#more-161798 As much as I dislike EA and Activision but these articles on RPS made them felt like a bunch of whiny idiots. There are times I really hate reading RPS because this sort of articles are all on the first few post. Especially those days that they are on rage against Ubisoft(even after they are done with the dreadful DRM) and EA's Sim City(EA deserved the hate). I actually miss Jim and Kieron. Those are decent journalist, compared to some of the monkeys at RPS now. Cara's articles are just utterly difficult to read because she likes to put useless sarcastic nonsense between information. I dont mind that they slam on game previews but i would like to see it more straight forward without all the nonsense in between. However, they still make some great interviews though. Agree with Cheesenium on RPS - but sometimes I wonder if it is because of their British humour, which we don't get.

I actually didn't find those 2 articles that were linked ridiculous. The subject matter of those articles were treated with the respect they deserved.
And shouldn't this thread be more focused/speculating on X-Com: Enemy Within rather than that travesty that is gears of mass effect 3rd person shooter? |

The content isnt ridiculous but it is the way some of RPS writers write annoys me as they tend to post some random garbage in the article that made it quite difficult to read. I dont see whats wrong with the Bureau, if the shooting mechanics are slightly better than whats shown. XCOM was never just a TBS game and there are FPS and space combat spinoff that are awful. I am more concern that can they make a decent game out of The Bureau. And this time, they actually distance themselves from XCOM more than before as they rather call it The Bureau than XCOM. I am excited to see the reveal of Enemies Within on 21st of August. More so than The Bureau. |

And the fact that it lends itself to the XCOM universe, ala same enemies unlike last time where they were shooting an oil spill. XCOM fans are actually not hating this as much as before, which is a good thing. |

I guess no one liked those old XCOM spin offs so they choose another and loosely tie it to XCOM.At least now, they re-named it The Bureau then followed by XCOM, I guess it's not so bad. And also, if both games uses the same brand name, some might find it misleading that the 2013 version is a shooter when the 2012 version is a TBS, considering the fact that both game does seemed like a the third person cover shooter. |

Especially when they dislike a game. I think their WITs are pretty insightful for reviews, the lack of score and the fact you actually have to digest what they write more insightful than disagreeing with an 8.7 (whatever that means). Now having said that, I do not consider this to be journalism - this is more akin to criticism and I think RPS does really well on that, based on the type of debates that arise in their comments section. I mean there's no score, whether or not you agree with what the reviewer thought I dont see whats wrong with the Bureau, if the shooting mechanics are slightly better than whats shown. XCOM was never just a TBS game and there are FPS and space combat spinoff that are awful. I am more concern that can they make a decent game out of The Bureau. More so than The Bureau. The rest of their stuff can be divided into stuff that's based on press releases and their features. Press Releases is basically what the PR company want you to read - their job at RPS is to regurgitate the release into infotainment without buying into the bullshit. I think they do quite well on this too. Their features are pretty decent when they're being serious however I've never been a big fan of pcgamer and their tabloid/yoof writing style. I very much prefer the dry articles you get in Edge or even recently on polygon.com I don't have a problem with the bureau actually, apart from the fact that it looks very generic and I'm just not excited about it. As a result, I'm not emotionally invested in it and i couldn't give 2 flying ducks on whether it is successfull or not. Now EW - that's a different beast altogether. |

I mean there's no score, whether or not you agree with what the reviewer thought There are a few WIT on games that they didnt really like such as Dragon Commander and the new The Bureau where they just go on and on criticizing on insignificant things like how bad Dragon Commander's voice acting is or how The Bureau has no bright green fedoras. Are those even essential features to criticise on? Especially Dragon Commander is made by a Belgium studio that sounds at leastThen, in between, the article is filled with jokes and nonsense that made it hard to determine whether they are praising the game or dislike the particular game. On the other hand, when it comes to XCOM, they go on and on praising it to be the greatest XCOM game ever made while I find EU to be good but I wont say that it is as amazing as they said. The rest of their stuff can be divided into stuff that's based on press releases and their features. I actually prefer how polygon or destructoid writes their article than RPS but RPS's indie coverage and interviews are very good but I dont rely them on reviews and previews as it is stuffed with rubbish in between useful information. As someone who likes cover shooter games, i think the bureau looks good, but i'll hold on first before buying it. There are some stuff that I am still quite doubtful about the game. EW, thats day 1 purchase if Jake is heading the development. QUOTE(Skidd Chung @ Aug 5 2013, 01:56 PM) Yeap, i guess they are revealing it on Gamescon. They did show a teaser on PAX East this year. Here is it: |
