Looks interesting but I really hope the official trailer's mission isnt in the actual game, please stop killing my rookies like the tutorial mission.

I remember reading that the developers made the tutorial with that many deaths to get the 1st time players to get used to the concept of their soldiers dying.

I know but i really dislike seeing my people die due to scripted events.

I prefer them dying under my carelessness and stupidity.

Haha yeah. And the fact that it ties to your overall score.

There is a score? I never knew that as I always think XCOM is more about the journey than the destination. And also because the final mission sucked.

Jake Solomon, can we go Cynodia in the next expansion? And give me a bigger ship and more troop carriers. And maybe base defence?

I rather multiple base attack and defense anytime, increased troop count to 12, more random weaponry, more terror sites and boost chrysallids to make them scary again.

Cydonia doesn't add anything new other than a desert location and a large base.

That i agree, but maybe increase to 8 will be sufficient. 12 is a bit overkill as a lot of maps arent that big to accommodate that many soldiers. To be devil's advocate, if they are selling map packs to supplement the game, i think i'll buy them too. 140 maps isnt enough though.

I think I just want another more suicide base like final mission than the exhibition-like current finale.

Dunno is it just me or what, but the new GEN Mods feels a bit cookie cutter like the original class ability trees.

Enemy Within looks sweet!

Since this is an expansion, we will most likely have to own Enemy Unknown to install this. I wonder how it actually works with the console port.

HOLY SHIT I WASN'T EXPECTING THIS!!!

MONEY WILL BE THROWN!!!

But really, this is a nice surprise to have us battle other humans and some opposing covert force against the XCOM. It is only natural when the other countries pull out and form their own force. As far as I know, this feature was never hinted or even asked by journalist.

Okay, this expansion looks awesome.

I am ready to get my arse kicked and felt emo over another generic game character.

Confirmed got base attack already.

Checked the wiki on the achievements. There is an achievement for getting 4 kills with a XCOM base security personnel.

I think the XCOM base assault is probably a one off mission like the alien base one. I doubt its a reoccurring mission like Abduction or Escort.

If the aliens or Exalt will assault my base from time to time, color me even more excited but so far, previews arent saying anything about it.

Yeah I have the same feeling its more like a one off event to signal the presence of the EXALT.

Still a consolation but fingers crossed.

In the original game, base invasions was also pretty rare. But when it happens, it struck the comfort zone of the players that they weren't prepared for just as they thought that they have figured the game out.

One of the things I like about original Xcom. You get a hang of securing down UFOs like knowing which door to open etc, they throw a terror site at you with civilians and a sense of urgency to get it done quick. You get use to that as well and they throw a freaking base invasion at you in a completely new environment where you are unfamiliar with and have no experience defending. And also all your equipment that has no spare at base where it all is in the skyranger. You are literally fighting them with whatever you can scrap by.

UFO encounters from the lowly scout vessels you shoot down to full size battleship landings are scaled incredibly well. Terror sites though was only challenging in the first few but got quite manageable later.

But base invasion was the shit that hit the fan for me. I don't even know what to do. All my troops are all over the base, there is no starting point. Weapons are un-equally distributed, sometimes not enough weapons and ammo for all not to mention most troops don't have a spare armor in the base. Enemies are coming down the elevators and hangars and if you planned your base poorly because you did not expect this, then aliens are pretty much on all sides with multiple flanking positions.

It was chaos with multiple fatalities, some of my troops died without a weapon in their hand, the survivors pick up killed enemy weapons to use against them. It was such a relief when it was over.

Thinking about it made me feel the first time the game literally made me sweat during the alien turn and all those blaster sounds, door opening and screams of death.

Good times! thumbup.gif

Yeah, at least its a consolation but i think the rogue human faction will be a nice change of pace too. Remember that this isnt a straight up remake of the old X-COM so things are bound to change. At the same time, the rogue human faction, Exalt, is less ethical on the whole transhumanism side where they sound like they might get even more powerful gen mods that XCOM can obtain, i guess this will make them even more different.

All I am hoping now is, base defence will not be a one off scripted mission, even if they just allow it to happen like a handful of times through the whole playthrough.

I think XCOM is one of those games that manage to get the whole emergent story telling right and its one of those games that allow you to fail then rethink your strategy.

R.I.P Big Korean Balls.
