if u want 70-300, juz keep with ur 18-55 kit lens. missing 55-70mm not much problem. for ~RM2700 i think better get Tamron 17-50 VC and SB600 flash. but then u'll end up with two lens... i thought u said u only want 1 lens?

ur 80-200 can only manual focus, and maximum aperture is f4. 70-200 can autofocus on D3000, and maximum aperture is F2.8 n got VR summore. big big difference

what body u using? if D40-D5000 then cheapest 50mm is the 50mm AF-S f1.4, RM1800

He doesn't joking with you... since D5000 dont have build-in motor.. you would have to manual focus with 50mm f1.8 ( Rm3xx ).

The 50mm AF-S f1.4 which is rm1800 then can auto-focus with your d5000 body...

just get AFS 35mm f/1.8 , will behave like 50mm on our crop sensor body. (1.5 x 35mm = 52.5mm)

I reporter doesn't need that much of a sharp image if they're job r like stalking etc etc. What if you're doing pro modelling or wedding or event specialization? U can't exact a soft image to be used for large prints to begin with no?

I didn't recommend the 1760 vc because 1750vc is a little short to begin with. That's the darn sad part

agree, specific tasks requires specific gears to cater the needs. users needs to understand their shooting style before giving in to their purchasing impulse.

lol i wasnt joking. u got five options:

1) 50mm f1.8D, ~RM300-400. cheap, but u need to manual focus.
2) 35mm f1.8G, ~RM750-850. reasonable price, can autofocus, easier to use in small rooms
3) 50mm f1.4D, ~RM1000 i guess. better performance than (1), but still need to manual focus
4) 35mm f2D, ~ ~RM1100. sharper than (2), still can use with FX nikons, but need to manual focus
5) 50mm f1.4G, ~RM1800. holy grail

i mean d40-d5000 as in the thread's cameras we shud have a name for no-motor bodies!

yeah it's short. but if he wants the 70-300, i think better pair with 18-55 or 17-50. single lens solution, ofcoz 18-200, but must decide that he wont buy 70-300 later. if he did, huge duplicate range

just sell all ur lens lah since u are not going to change the lens after u buy the 18-200mm...

there is no cheap 50mm for D5000...xcept u upgrade ur body like D90 then the 50mm 1.8 which cost around 370 can be autofocus...

Cloudkee:the review of D60 is better than D3000 only matters to those deciding to buy between these 2
u oredi have D3000 has no logic to change to D60, jz stick with D3000

jz get 18-200 VRII if your problm is lazy to change lenses, or Sigma 18-200 OS for within your budget
but if u plan to get 70-300 VR in future, no point getting it for the extra 200-300mm

do u reli nid the range 105-200mm?
if not i suggest get 18-105 then buy other lens such as 35mm 1.8G with the remaining budget

the other choices r Sigma 30mm f/1.4(rm1.8k) n Sigma 50mm f/1.4(rm2.1k)
or the final choice is jz to upgrade to a body with built-in AF motor then get the cheap 50mm f/1.8

50mm f1.4 is totally different from 35/50mm f1.8... itz even sharp at f1.4... i got the chance to play wit 50mm f1.4 n i m falling in love wit it...

i was able to 'own' the 50mm f1.4 for 2 days... mayb gonna say bye bye to 50mm f1.8 and hello to 50mm f1.4 and a fish...
