They add another 8 Mbps for TV Streaming if u subscribe that meaning they won't throttled you as if u watch too much HDTV your quota will be fakap

I don't think they can separate bandwidth for your IPTV and your normal surfing

Meaning if you subscribe 20Mbps u will get additional 8Mbps extra bandwidth = 28Mbps bandwidth to max out

I'm not sure wether HSSB ip is static or dynamic if static get ready to get DMCA take down notice if u run utorrent inside your PC

I think they can and they should separate the bandwidth since IPTV is on VLAN.

I believe that for IPTV there are different price structure depending on which channel customers are subscribing like Astro, thus it's not fair to cap IPTV usage.

but still, the backbone/gateway own by TM. If YTL/foreign ISP lay their own backbone, that should be break tm's monopoly

if lease to 3rd parties, no competition for tm for sure,

I don't have faith on wireless isp's. they like to boast to promote their product, and then give crappy service to customer
*
ISP's lease infrastructure all the time. I'm sure you'd love to believe that everyone has enough money to lay down their own backbone and charge low prices. Fact is, they can't. If they can use TM's infra and provide a better service than TM, then that alone is plenty of competition.

It's up to TM to ensure that the lines are working well and its in their own best interest to do so. It's not like they're gonna block the other ISPs, that's what the court is for.

TM doesn't have a monopoly, if they did they wouldn't need to lay down this line. The government may be aiding them, but they're providing a majority of the funding themselves.

There's no point in speculating what the cap is and how it's going to be managed. Wait for the announcement and take action from there.

Star signs carriage deal with TMNet

Star Greater China has signed a multi-year non-exclusive distribution deal with Malaysian IPTV platform TM Net.

Under the agreement, TM Net will distribute three of Star’s Mandarin-language channels – Star Chinese Channel, Star Chinese Movies 2 and Channel V Taiwan – on its IPTV platform effective from today (March 24).

“Star is delighted to announce our cooperation with TM Net. We believe our channels carried through IPTV will meet the various needs of Malaysian viewers,” said Daniel Cheung, CEO of STAR Taiwan.

In case I was not clear, in my example, the base package price is RM90.You have to pay that minimum.  Each additional 50Gb you want, you pay RM30 on top of the base price. So there is no RM30 package.

Reasons for doing this way could be:

1. they are serious about increasing broadband usage in the country.
2. they want fair usage for all users
3. they want to curb online piracy
4. they want to ensure less network congestion
5. they can earn more from heavier users (ie pay per usage method) and hopefully improve their network or international link capacity. As time passes, they can even consider increasing the quoatas depending on how much capacity they have
*
TM already has the packages for these users.
They are rumoured to have the following pricing.
5mb = RM150. 60 gb capped
10mb = RM199. 80gb capped
20mb = Rm249. 120gb capped.

If you subscribed to 60GB, they give you a speed of 5Mbps.
If you subscribed to 80GB, they give you a speed of 10Mbps.
If you want more, 120GB, they give you a speed of 20Mbps.

That means the more you subscribe, the higher speed you get.

I don't see anything special from your example.

HSBB - pay less with caps. pay more to get more bandwidth
streamyx - expensive with no caps.

honestly, this broadband limiting measure is nonsensical. i much rather they give us an option for unlimited usage, but pay higher. fair usage my @$$. we pay more, they increase capacity. the math is really that simple.
