Its samsung new UI, Smart LifeUI. Same like what they do to their new.. badaOS... its home screen, apps list and also the default app on the bottom screen is customizable (I already watch the badaOS hands on vid from WMC 2010 before)..

it was soo nice to see this phone, cuz i was about to get HTC Desire, (eventho i hate how it look soo much alike like Iphone)and when i did the research, the sound quality is tinner and poor. i have Omnia 2, very happy with it and gonna give to my gf instead. so ima get this one instead...hopefully no more than 2.2k

Should be interesting to see a comparison between Desire and Galaxy though.

indeed cuz from the review i heard that Desire is one of the most powerful Android Smartphone uptodate.
lightning fast. its like nexus one predessecor. except HTC isnt known for the best Multimedia such as the sounds from the speaker or the camera
like samsung. i mean buying expensive phones like this, you want a phone that wins All rounder, not just at one side right? lol

for me i prefer galaxy s, i mean SUPER AMOLED 4'' screen, 720p video recording and video play, multimedia function more attract me .... :-), but DESIRE also powerful gadget .....

thats what attracts me the most, Samsung are ALWAYS good with multimedia phones and not just business phones! but i think HTC are realesing HTC EVO with 4G.

yes same with you ... , i asked samsung mobile last week, today i received mail from them : for Samsung Wave : early of june , for Samsung Galaxy S : yet to be comfirmed, i think maybe July.... actually Wave also powerful smartphone but only 3.3 SUPER AMOLED screen, 1Ghz processor and 720p video recording, 5mgpx camera just same with Galaxy s .....

P/S : HTC EVO just CDMA phone, so i think not will available at m'sia ... lets wait for HD3 .....

Wave was the first BADA OS phone from samsung, yeah i watched it at youtube, Galaxy S is perfect for me ..... i'm not iphone supporter, so i think iphone 4G is nothing for me......

neither do i , im sick of ppl saying " get an iphone, its the best phone out there" lol but 4G isnt available in malaysia yet. iphone is boring, the OS has been beaten since Android came out anyway this is def the phone i will get as soon as it came out.

In my opinion, it is true that iphone is getting left behind slowly.... i am not an iphone fan, in fact currently i am using HTC and currently i am considering another HTC or maybe the galaxy in the future. What i wanted to say here is that even though the galaxy is far more superior than any other phone currently (in terms of hardware) i believe iphone was the trend setter for all of the phones in the market. So to me, basically many of the current phones in a way it resembles iphone. We can even see the current phones when it was first released, it will make comparison with the iphone 3gs. We have to bear in mind that 3gs was released back in june 2009 but still most people want to make comnparison with the newer phones.

Well this is my opinion since many here are comparing with iphone...

On the other hand from what i read on the net, the galaxy is brilliant and hopefully it will come to malaysia soon

yeah i even got Swype on my samsung omnia 2. i love how Galaxy S got google goggles and Social hub, also the programe called Layar where you can find location directly through your camera ...like pointing the direction and itll say on your screen when youre in the area.

please be prepared for sucky software support from Samsung... I had a bad experience with Omnia II. Hope it does not have the memory leakage problem like Omnia II which made me reboot a least a time per day.

cant agree anymore . for me , I dislike Samsung UI , it has quite bad reputation among the smart phones . The apps interface look like apple =.= .. just go to youtube and have a glance . Believe your eye . Compare the response of Nexus one , Desire and Galaxy S . All of them have 1ghz processor , but HTC sense UI has better responses than Samsung UI .

Actually Galaxy has better advantage because of super amoled screen

Something is not perfect with Samsung UI because the programming of UI doesnt fit the logic design of the hardware itself .

nop , sense UI is for HTC phone only ... Nexus can use Desire ROM Sense UI , but it has bugs , like bluetooth not working . This means Even flash in sense UI ROM in phone(Nexus - Desire) that are from the same manufacturer (HTC) also having bugs , so dont even mention the phones which are from different manufacturer (HTC - Samsung) . If you use Desire Rom and flash in Samsung or milestone , kaboom ! it will make your phone not bootable because not same driver. but you can download custom roms , which mean they make Samsung UI to look like HTC Sense UI .. but it only "looks like " , wont "smooth like" , what to say ? not original UI ~

act Sense UI can be installed in any phone, as long as there is dev who works for it and port the rom to work with other android device specifically.

the reason why u see only Nexus one has it is because lots of devs out there are using the nexus one. Paul himself use nexus one (now he has desire also).

and not fully working like bluetooth is not a real problem and u know why modaco named it as alpha rom? not full or beta? because he believed (or he wants us to believe) that everything can be fixed and we gonna get fully working htc sense UI (bluetooth, radio, flash) on nexus one.

So far there is very less dev work Sense UI for Samsung so I concluded it kinda impossible , there are lots of extra work to do if flash in Sense UI into phone which are not HTC . There is a forumer told me before. Now Paul is busy to root Legend and Desire , and X10 is on the way to his hands. So , if I want HTC sense , I rather get a HTC phone with Sense , rather than get a Samsung galaxy and wait for dev to work Sense UI on it .

compare to 2K Desire , the super amoled screen and 8gb ROM is only better than Desire Amoled + 512 ROM ... but does it worth 1k ? Superamoled screen increase 80% non-reflective under sunlight ,I dont work under sun == , Amoled screen is enough . with Rm1xx , already can get 16gb SDHC card . So Rm1k doesnt worth for screen + 8gb rom . but you have extra bucks , then nvm .. I still prefer HTC sense UI , Samsung UI is low responsive .. and HTC has a strong bond with Google , Google will take really care of HTC .. I heard Samsung update policy very bad ?

haha ya loh bro, i didnt have compare the price between DESIRE and GALAXY S, i ever consider to buy DESIRE before, sense UI running very nice and smooth , its really hard to make decision .....

Despite the high initial retail value of Samsung phones, few months after that hoo-haa and we will see price crashing down. Haven't we see that before? INNOV8, Omnia HD i8910, what else?

Super AMOLED is nice. No doubt about it. But Samsung is notorious for pushing new high techs for incredible pricing and then comes the mainstream manufacturers with more competitive pricing. After all, Samsung supplies a lot of the components in your average mobile phone. In other words, the mobile phone business is just another hobby of theirs.

dont worry. same case like other samsung phone such as omnia, omnia2.. if Samsung Malaysia do put a high price on it, we can just buy the SG set haha

Frankly speaking, this is not Samsung's fault although they are notorious for pushing new tech at high prices. Still it is the local distributors that screwed it all. FMG has been equally notorious for charging high prices for feature phones during the rise of smart phones. Have you guys ever heard of RM24xx on a feature phone during the 2004-2006? Crazee... and the usual phones were selling well below that kind of price.

FMG was slow to bring in better Samsung phones and kept on with their mainly similar models plan.

phone speakers are meant to be soft . I prefer to use headset with phones rather than speaker . If I want to use speaker , I rather blast it with my pc speakers . But Galaxy doesnt worth Rm1k more compare to Desire , for me who dont extra bucks to spend . Now most of the ppl can take pic of themself without looking on the screen , so the front VGA is not necessary ... haha you can just check the youtube handon , samsung UI = laggy , sigh ... just like great nvidia GPU with bad firmware , cant unleash full potential ... if not , this will be a good phone

yeh the secondary camera i reckon for ppl who use video call alot for an adroid user. of course i dont listen my music through phone speaker bro lol.

Don't worry, video hands-on during the launching convention showed that the UI is damn smooth and fluid. Its exactly the same as iPhone fluidity I dare to say. My concern is that heavily customized interface. It doesn't look like typical Android OS. Knowing Samsung's history of releasing updates or fixing issues (at least for Malaysia region), potential Android OS updates may be late if at all.

The beauty of Android OS is its completely free (almost). So corporations that doesn't have their own OS platform tend to build their interface/branding on top of Android like HTC. In the case of Samsung Galaxy S, it looks like they want to bury that Android 2.1 as deep as possible and make it look like their own flagship interface ala TouchWiz or Bada-lookalike. High chance, Bada OS is something build on top of Android hehehehe.... but I don't know enough to be sure.

I think a regular consumer's definition of a good phone speaker is one that produce clarity, good frequency response, intelligible speakerphone and of a certain amount of volume. Of course it won't replace your favorite IEMs or dedicated speakers. But the Desire's speaker is especially tiny. I tried the Nexus One before and the sound is 'Ki Ci Lai' compared to the Milestone which was more full bodied. I have a feeling Desire would be the same as Nexus One due to their similarities.

Hehehe I think people who uses the front VGA camera to take picture doesn't know that the quality is worse than the main camera. I do know some female friends who uses the front facing camera as a 'digital mirror'. Yes its weird. Continuing on the front facing camera, its function is now not really significant. Not many people (at least among the people around me) uses video call or wouldn't miss it if it was removed. Maybe mainstream consumers want that.

i fully agree with what youre saying sir and yeh the desire speaker phone is similar to the twin brother Nexus One speaker based on my research on the net

Well if it is retail set, the firmware/software may well be of a later revision. Meaning the UI could be more polished and bugs fixed. If Samsung really want to make a successful phone, I believe they will do their best to ensure the firmware/software is optimized for prime time.

So the guy before you isn't entirely incorrect.

yeah , Samsung UI is not good enough .. Even it has the best spec in the market , but UI still weak , it cant fully utilize and drive the hardware. Like a good graphic card without a good fimware.

Yupe agree with you that HTC sense is better than any other phones in the market now. But regarding the slow responses, i hope they were better in this phone because i used Omnia b4 but due to the sensitivity of the screen, i changed it.^^ But for galaxy, we need to test it when it release then we will only know the result as the video we saw is just a demo set. I think they will still improve it as the demo set has no flash. SO hope they can improve on the area that need improvement. ^^

I think Samsung sure will install a flash on Galaxy. If not they are really stupid, no flash on a Superphone? kidding man. No flash in the night pic, the super Amoled screen also cant help anything on it. So just be patient and see how Samsung improve on it. ^^
