not matter how good the function is,for me samsung still samsung with expensive price and fugly UI..
i just drool of his processor
*
this maybe subjective, but yes i agree with you, that i prefer Sense UI over TouchWiz anytime...but when comparing this two, i tend to forgot 1 thing, this is android after all...i can replace the homescreen UI right? i can either use the stock UI or get another from the market...

i might not like the design (UI and phone shape) but if it's good, and of course competitively priced, it could be a good alternative to hTC desire (since i dont think i want to tie to maxis contract, i still need to wait, and the pink hue problem, it kinda more obvious than i though it would be) and by that time galaxy S could hit the market...

i like the processor + GPU if it is indeed powerVR SGX540...

ya..i guess u can change to vanilla android UI like how htc desire can..
but somehow it will give slower update like htc too?
*
software upgrade is indeed another problem, but with around 1.6GB available for apps installation (i do hope paid apps will be made available in Malaysia) should at least last until FroYo is out (if it ever makes it)...

OT: Gingerbread rumoured to be announced in Q4 2010, right? and when that time arrive, nexus one will be almost 1 years old, i'm wondering will google launch gingerbread with the new nexus two (or whichever name) if they decide to try with another device?

after watching some videos of the samsung Galaxy S, i still cant find myself to like the design and UI, so if i get it, most probably the TouchWiz will be turn off...

main reason i'm considering samsung galaxy S, is mainly due to the processor + GPU and the super AMOLED plus some extras such as wireless N, bluetooth 3.0...at least make the phone a bit future proof, well at least for a year...

Quadrant benchmark

found a Galaxy S benchmark from the link above, i know that Galaxy S was not among the phones benchmark, but check out the score, if Galaxy S is running 2.1 and scores much higher then nexus one pre-2.2, the hummingbird is indeed a very, very good processor...

shame bout the design and UI though...
most important it must be price competitively, please not let this be another X10 price range....

ok, there goes my hope, it is in the X10 price range...

check out singtel website, and some other link in the internet, the RRP without contract is indeed SGD1098, that SGD200 more expensive than hTC desire, means around RM480 more, which malaysia RRP could hit 2699 or 2799... shocking.gif

not only does this phone look like iphone, it's also price like iphone... doh.gif

no doubt it's a good phone due to the high-end spec...

but the UI and design is really iphone-ish...
- the top "circles" to indicate which homescreen you are in, yes stock android and Sense UI has it, but at least they are doing it differently...
- the four permanent shortcuts at the bottom...
- scroll from left to right, the 1st homescreen of the TouchWiz is furthest left, instead of center...
- again the top "circles" + 4-icons in the bottom + scroll from left to right in the all programs launcher = iphone "homescreen"...
- the phone design looks like iphone from far...

if it werent for the widgets.....

one thing i dont understand bout the UI, is the redundant home icon on the UI...in a video i watched, i saw a home icon on the bottom right when the reviewer is in all programs, why set a home icon there while can just hit the home button?

but i'm as disappointed with the price as much as with the design...i'm not sure bout the price in malaysia yet, but for SGD1098, the price is kinda steep and the stuff tv preview said the built quality is a bit plasticky...

i'll wait for more reviews before deciding to either get this or hTC desire (without being tied to maxis)

hihihehe, you had bad experience with samsung before?

i used one samsung mobile before, and it was the 1st mobile device that i had to sent back due to a board problem (sometimes cant on the phone even if the phone is fully charged and will automatically switch off while using it)....other than that no major problem...

but like many, i also worried bout the software updates...look at the behold II, will only get updated to 1.6 and this is far from convincing...

nexus one is a good choice as it has FroYo, which seems like a major boost to android...but like on the desire, the pink hue is quite noticeable, especially when i saw a video in android central which compares the new features of gmail in FroYo...i can notice the pink hue, especially when it's put beside motorola droid...it may not be noticeable in some area, video playback thus it may not be as serious, but i scared that i might get annoyed in the long run...

i did went through the video, thus i said the UI/design is like the iphone UI...a bit plasticky for its price and the back is finger-print magnet...

yes, it smooth, so is hTC desire / legend (i tried both in KLCC (desire) and PC fair (legend))...in video reviews, both galaxy S and Desire is smooth and i believe both will perform well...

i even watched the videos from gsmarena blog on the various UI aspects of galaxy S, like contacts UI, but unfortunately i still cant bring myself liking the UI more...

believe me (thanks to desire's exclusive deal with maxis, and reading more into the PenTile Matrix OLED), i'm considering this phone even if i'm into the design / UI, as long as the price is not that high...

i'm loving the super AMOLED, and the spec:
- the screen claimed to use less power
- better visibility on outdoors
- 45nm processor
- better GPU
- 1500mAH battery
- internal memory

thus i'm willing to sacrifice the looks...

what happen to the good old days when samsung was designing some of the best handset designs? i remember i bought my 1st and only samsung mobile phone solely because of it's look....

super amoled kick htc desire's arse
*
super amoled kick the current gen display, but i would like to see what new iphone has to offer as now almost everyone is saying it will have a 960x620 screen...

desire have the same problems as nexus one (pink hue as well), both using the clearpad 2000, which is quite outdated by now...but for now it wont impact as much as there aint many applications that make full use of the unlimited multutouch...

unlimited is not necessary since u only have 10 fingers laugh.gif
but i can use 7 multitouch in tap tap revenge for iphone..also with bubblewrap app tongue.gif

Added on May 31, 2010, 5:09 pmn looks like clove from UK will get the stick at next week..around GBP400
*
yeah, i'm not too worried bout the multitouch, and i'm not really into playing those FPS that require better multitouch to work better...

but my main problem is the pink hue on desire / nexus one, well at least to me...sure you may not notice it in everyday usage but since i will be facing the screen most of the time, i prefer to get better one, not to mention when you are surfing the net...and for now samsung galaxy S is top...

since hTC just launch desire with incredible and EVO 4G in the US, i doubt hTC will launching any high-end device for at least 6 months...is Galaxy S my only choice? i dont know hmm.gif

GBP400????
that's 400*4.8 = 1920?
is cheaper than SG, which is said to be selling at SGD1098...

U always mentioning about pink hue and so on..
Does it really happened because when i'm facing my phone's screen for a long time, let say 1 hour.. Nothing happened like u said pink hue?
I hope I can experience this once soon..  hmm.gif  hmm.gif
*
you can check out this thread: Pinkish Hue Problem

you may not notice it in everyday use, but try it on the htc website, gmail apps and also set to the lowest brightness...i notice the pinkish hue on the desire i tested at KLCC when i go to htc website and set to the lowest brightness...some device are not that noticeable, some yes, so if you are in the latter category, congrats...

FYI, i do set to the lowest brightness on my HD when in brightly lit places..

so since it's not noticeable everytime, it not really a problem, right? to me it's still bearable for now, but will i get annoyed by it in the long run? hmm.gif
so if galaxy S is competitively priced and said to be available 1st week of July, with desire only available end of June for other retailers, i have plenty of time to think it over...

yes, i think this problem more or less does happen to all AMOLED screens...

1st post on the xda thread did mention that samsung galaxy (not sure if it's galaxy S as it didnt say) and legend does have the pinkish hue but it's not as obvious as in the Desire...

Pity to Desire's users.. Anyway.. I hope that it'll be a normal thing for u soon because how to fix it anyway?
I really2 have no idea.. shakehead.gif
*
maybe get phones that still using TFT LCDs? laugh.gif
if it's like legend as shown in the picture, it's not that bad, but desire seems to be a bit over the top for me...since hTC knew about the problem, hTC could make it better in the next update...

@hihihehe,
if you bought from some place wont you be worry bout warranty? honestly with that super AMOLED is only available from samsung, i worried that it will cost a bomb to fix it should it have any problem (touchwood)...waiting for some users' review as well...

anyone know if the price SGD1098 is for the 8GB or 16GB model?

indeed, look at the following benchmarks, as usual benchmarks are for reference only:

CNET Samsung Galaxy Benchmark
Android Community Benchmark

until the new snapdragon is out, hummingbird is the fastest processor around...

@ alfredtwl, sorry to hear bout that...was hoping you could get your Galaxy S and give us some feedback...

looking forward to you getting your device...seem like samsung galaxy S doing ok despite the price...

seems like that not too many samsung widget (not sure if this is good or bad)...i like hTC sense widget a lot, as it is quite powerful and doesnt require to launch apps to view / do simple functions...

cant wait for other to come out with their review to see how good or bad the UI is, as the Behold II UI is just plain bad, IMO....

slightly OT:
Attached Image
seems like hTC legend suffer the same problem as hTC Desire for some devices...i dont understand why some has some doesnt...
Source

just hope samsung doesnt have this problem too...
