how can i concentrate in office when my baby is so near yet so far.
cmon cmon the time must fly..
or else i will fly..

That's not the scary part. Mine is out of foreign customs and I can't track in anywhere is POS Malaysia! I called them and they told me the USPS CV tracking number should be E-parcel rclxub.gif

Hence my question earlier to owners who previously got their units from Gentech or other companies using USPS Priority Mail International Parcels. Which delivery service delivered your unit to your homes? For the USPS Global Express it's confirmed Pos Laju will deliver and once you get the out of foreign customs you can track your package with the Pos Laju system. I can't find my unit anywhere in any of the Pos Malaysia services sad.gif

Stock is ahteros? I didn't know that. I have Intel 3945ABG and 4965AGN spare lol.
*
I've been reading feedback from owners on NBR forums. However I've been downloading all the drivers for the G73JH at Asus support site and the Intel 6200 drivers are listed there. They could be installing the wireless by batches and some units might be shipping with the Intel cards instead. I won't know till my unit arrives but I will check and report back here smile.gif

QUOTE(riku2replica @ Jul 6 2010, 06:17 PM)
I'm suspecting G73Jw will be getting Nvidia Gtx480m installed. Since AVADirect’s W880CU has got it installed and running like a mad portable desktop replacement.
*
The rumors are the GTX480m will be installed but a lot of NBR forum members says it's still too early to confirm. Asus needs to weigh the possibility of overheating and additional cost for cooling down the laptop due the heat generated by this card. If they need to do major revamps to the chassis, I highly doubt they will go with the GTX480m for the G73JW. It would be more cost effective to launch this card on a higher newer model to attract new potential buyers.

This just in from Pos Laju:

Parcel No Date Time Process Office

06-Jul-2010 16:22 Item to be collected at Counter Delivery PPL

rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif

I should receive it by tomorrow thumbup.gif rclxms.gif rclxm9.gif icon_idea.gif

Further information, the unit will be delivered to my home. Pos Malaysia uses Pos Laju to pick up your unit from KLIA customs and deliver it to the nearest Pos Laju branch. I'm not sure which service they will use to dispatch my parcel but from what I gathered it will be either the E-Parcel service or Pos Laju. I will report back once they deliver my unit hopefully by tomorrow biggrin.gif

Well, if i dont have the money in hand, im not too comfortable ordering/reserving..

I will surely mention ur name when ordering ..
Viperion did u get ur bomber from the same guy?
*
Yup, my Lord & Master pointed to Ken Lee at Gentech and I did his bidding tongue.gif I've actually called him several times and once to assist Satchi who hopefully will get his unit today. Overall he is very helpful and I love his service. However there are some conflicting reports in the NBR forums. Some members said he is very knowledgeable and a techie but when I asked him about the issues with this laptop he was very general. I think he started the account in NBR forums and at times a tech from Gentech answers on that account tongue.gif

You should order from him, mentioned both our names and tell he to send some freebies to Jeffrey & Mark Lee (Viperion) brows.gif tongue.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Actually, there are quite a numbers of resellers out there but I do recommend you to buy from Ken Lee of GenTechPC. Superb service from him. Just try to google GenTechPC & you will notice it. All the best! Just ask us if you have any further Q.
*
Service is an understatement! Ken actually put my laptop as under warranty, repaired unit and under declare the value so I don't even need to pay the RM 18 customs declaration form tongue.gif I mentioned to him he doesn't need to do it as Malaysia has no duty charges for computer items although I think they did it to save on shipping insurance payment tongue.gif laugh.gif

hey JanqEs,
well its actually pretty simple.
before you order send an email to Ken Lee and tell him you are making an international order (i.e from Malaysia).
The shipping charge to malaysia will be USD149.

They accept bank transfer only for international orders and here is the instructions:

1: Add to cart and proceed to checkout.
2: Choose Pay by Check and just enter 1234 as check number.
3: Once they received your order confirmation they will email you the bank transfer instruction.

The bank transfer email will contain information all the details you will need, I.E, swift code /accnt number/ bank addr/ etc. to make the wire transfer /TT.

After you have sent the wire transfer, you will need to fax / scan a copy of the receipt to gentechPC's billing department. They will be quick to clear it as the case for Viperion and Jef. but for me it took a while to clear.

I guess thats the gist of the process you need to go through.

Check my signature, everything above plus the extended warranty: RM 6400! Could have been RM 6300 but I made the mistake not buying the extended warranty together with the unit. Have to pay another USD 30 for the wire transfer, HAIH! doh.gif oops.gif doh.gif

However even with the mistake I still save a whopping RM 3599! Still worth it I say tongue.gif

This is an advice for future owners. I read through the forums (NBR) and some people said you could buy the extended warranty through Asus. This is actually false because if you call Asus USA they will tell you to buy from the dealer. I thought I could decide later if I wanted the extended warranty and that cost me to waste RM 100. You have been warned so if you want the extra 1 year warranty purchase it with the unit biggrin.gif

Further research:

USD 119.00 is the common price. Any higher is a rip off and lower is obviously better wink.gif

guys, i really need to know something..

in some review they write that asus g73 has an spdif output (shared with headphone jack), but i couldnt see any.. can u guys confirm this?
http://www.digitalversus.com/article-479-8320-150.html
*
No, it does not have a SPDIF output, only two 3.5mm outputs for audio, one headphones the other speaker. Only other output is HDMI cable for digital audio/video. That guy must have a mutated, prototype unit from Asus or a moron who doesn't know terms but my unit doesn't have SPDIF. Now way you can plug in a Toslink cable anywhere:

There is no way to plug in any of the above connections pictured above to the laptop without modifications tongue.gif laugh.gif

My current Asus does label S/PDIF with the 3.5mm audio out.
It requires a special converter according to this forum.
*
Well if you mean the internal audio cards handles SPDIF signals then I need to check but I bet it can. However there are no standard SPDIF ports in this unit. Trust me, the information provided in this model is abysmal. I can find more information in this thread than all the instruction, warranty, etc. manuals they provided tongue.gif

*
It's not actually a gimmick. There is no way to pack 7 speakers and 1 subwoofer into each earpiece. Hence they use HRTF but enhanced it further so the user can get the effect of 7.1. Link to how it works:

i just wanna have a good laptop..
dont wanna buy a new desktop..
because travel alot..
budget around below 10 k..
yeah im sorry ..
i do ask alot..
*
If you travel a lot, none of the high end gaming rings it going to suit you. Anything above 15" is going to be a pain to carry around. If you want anything around 17"-18", be prepared to carry somewhere around 5Kgs-7Kgs depending on the rig. This includes your accessories, power brick, mouse, cooler pad, etc. etc. The G73JH unit alone is rated at 3.8Kgs.

QUOTE(devkamal @ Jul 7 2010, 10:21 PM)
no i meant the usb external sound card.. im getting the cyber snipa, once i ordered asus..

but be sure to check it out, cyber snipa sonar 5.1.. turtle beach also makes some cool headset...
*
What is the cost of the headphone + external sound card. IMHO, I'd rather spend one shot on a headphone rather then keep on adding devices. Reason being is this laptop is already a pain to carry around and adding more stuff is going to add to the burden. Not to mention the issues with space if you plan to bring it along with you on a trip. Imagine cramped in a bus/plane with little space and you take this huge thing out then trying to look for space to put that external sound card to use with your headphone. No thank you wink.gif tongue.gif

QUOTE(JanqEs @ Jul 7 2010, 10:19 PM)
yeah i do realise it.. but then according to this dude..
yeah i realise there's so many opinion..
but then the last decision is on me..
im just scared that later on i would suffer n lost my own money like that only..
huhu
*
Eh? Just go for the A1 with the Blue Ray dude. For SSD, it's slightly cheaper in the USA (difference about RM 100 - RM 300) but if you upgrade in the online store you would lose your 500GB Seagate. Just buy the standard unit and get the SSD here in Malaysia. Once the unit is down here, plug out one of the Seagate HDD and replace it with the SSD yourself. Buy a portable 2.5" HDD USB External casing and voila, free external HDD (Technically but you paid for it tongue.gif Better than losing it to the online store in USA.

QUOTE(JanqEs @ Jul 7 2010, 10:33 PM)
at this moment i dont prefer ssd..
coz the space is not that big.. TT..
nvm lar i will give a lil bit more of thinking..
then i decide i will let u all know what have i decide..
THX U VERY MUCH!!
^^
*
Trust me, you better start preferring SSD. Standard units takes a few minutes to boot up bot on SSD rigs it takes about 30 seconds to 1.5 minutes for windows to load. You would fall in love with it.

Update on my progress thus far:

- Created two sets of Recovery DVD.

- Installed my Razer Orochi Mouse and updated the firmware.

- Flashed my G73JH bios from version 206 to 209 tongue.gif (No Problems)

- Updated most of Windows 7 update

- In progress removing the massive amount of bloatware in the system

The cyber snipa im getting is a usb headset, so theres no need for an external sound card.. costs around 85 usd.. also happens to b the cheapest, its surround is 5.1 not 7.1 but its good enough for me..
*
Great option there mate, agree with the purchase biggrin.gif

On a side note, here's the reason why you should by from Ken Lee at GentechPC. He was kind enough to provide me with a payment option to save me the USD 30 wire transfer fee (around RM 100) for my extended warranty. If you want great support from an online store, trust me he is the best period. I've been ordering from the USA for many years and so far I haven't received service this good before. If any forum members need assistance with their orders from GentechPC just PM me and I will assist when I am able. You can mention my name (Mark Lee or Jeffrey) and Ken Lee will know where you were referred from biggrin.gif

@Jeffrey1987 - We need to send our application forms to Ken and apply for some dealership/Malaysian support/job with them. I just finished a call with him and he has nothing but praises for you bro biggrin.gif

Update on my status:

- After bloatware removal, I will be debugging the system to check if there are any problems with it. Mainly the resources from NBR & some of my own tests. I will report back here if I find anything.

*
Uhmm, if you sit in front of the unit and don't miss a beat, I would say probably 2 hours 30 minutes. It took me 6 hours for 2 sets as I was doing others things while waiting for each DVD to finish. You need to prepare 6 DVDs for one set. The recovery is done with AI Recovery. The software will first pool all the necessary files from your system and create and ISO. It's nearly 20GBs++ and each DVD you burn will be verified so the process takes some time.

Agreed, however nothing is 100% foolproof. I am not betting my last dollar on anything above RM 100 without any warranty. They may have a good track record for reliability but would you take the gamble with a 5K-10K laptop without any warranty support? I know I won't, even with my unit I'm purchasing the extra extended warranty tongue.gif

Virtual Surround using convertional HRTF technology is a hit & miss issue. Studies has shown that certain people are not able to differentiate the difference because virtual sound uses angles to direct sounds to the ears and "tricks" the brain where the source is coming from. What matters is the technology incorporated into the headset that process the sounds in order for the user to experience a more realistic environment and increases the chances it will work for more people.

*
Huh? Are you asking the difference between USPS priority and express? For USD 149 you will get USPS Priority International Parcels and if it reaches to KL the stupid Pos Laju will refuse to send it to your house because they say the package is insured. However I think USPS Priority is like normal delivery so the payback to Pos Laju is not enough hence I think they use an excuse to get the customer to pick up. There are forum members who used the Express option and Pos Laju delivered straight to their homes. Last time I heard from Ken Lee Express is almost double the price but I could be wrong. Contact him and request for the price. Mention my name and inform him what I said here to get some feedback from him.

Update:

I've removed most all of the bloatware and thus far this machine works wonderfully. I regretted doing the LCD test as I found one dead pixel (Micro Dot Dark Spot). Now I'm aware of it I see the spot all the time tongue.gif The Asus ZBD warranty doesn't apply to dark spots so I guess I have to live with it sad.gif Attempting a software to fix it but I doubt it will work. Congratulations, let's hope you get your unit fast. Well for priority mail, KL Pos Laju branch refused to send to my house stating the package is insured which doesn't make any sense to me. All the previous owners who bought from GentechPC is not active here anymore so I cannot confirm if my case is an isolated or common problem. One owner has confirmed Express Mail from USPS uses Pos Laju here and the unit was delivered to his house. I'm speculating that Express Mail covers the cost for Pos Laju to deliver to your house and Priority doesn't. How much did Ken quote you for Express mail? Other store charges USD 149 for Express but GentechPC charges USD 149 for priority only sad.gif

anyways i could only make the payment on monday, banks are off for weekends.. still havent processed my online purchase, im split between priority and express.

mark, besides wire transfer fees and shipping, did u had to pay anything extra?? i have 6.3k rite now, dont wanna blow my budget..
*
You need to add USD 30 to the total quoted by GentechPC's ordering system. Ken Lee will do it for you and send you the actual amount in USD to pay at the bank with the wire transfer details. From the local side, depending on the bank you have to pay RM 25 - RM 50 for transfer fee depending on the bank. Maybank has the cheapest transfer fee rate but you need to check the TT exchange rate too and on the day I paid Maybank also had the best rate. My advice to you is to make a survey at several banks before making your decision. I cannot advice you in delivery method but I can only tell you my experience unless some other owners answer my question. Only thing I can advice is if you have your own transport to collect the unit when it reaches here you can save USD 40 or you may be lucky and Pos Laju will deliver to you. Express also delivers faster but you need to account whether the extra USD 40 is justifiable to you.

I wouldnt mind paying extra if it reaches faster, and hopefully safer, priority and express are not insured..

If the mail it to sepang i have no choice but to depend on pos laju.. i live in kedah..

Huh? Both delivery options is insured dude. I just stated Pos Laju will not send my package because it is insured and if you check my previous post I'm using priority international parcels. All packages will arrive in Sepang but if any packages needs inspection, it will be delivered by Pos Laju to the nearest post office located near the recipient. The post office will also need a customs officer assigned to it so when you go collect it at the assigned place, you need to open the package in front of the officer to verify the contents. Don't worry, you will never need to come down to Sepang if your package is help by customs. You might need to travel to a post office around your area and depending on the location it could be far or near you. Just make sure you ship it to your home address.

owh.. i assumed it wasnt insured because there was a third shipping option with (*insured) written..

If they can send to anywhere near kedah, own transportation wont b an issue, if they send directly to sp, it will b much better, sp is relatively a small town.. such a relieve to know that... thanks..
