Hi, I will be with my family of 3 people (including myself) in Bangkok for 4 days and nights. I have no idea how much an average meal costs plus other costs, need some advice. Won't be shopping til we drop, probably just some moderate shopping for clothes/accessories?

Is exchanging currency there a good idea? If so, which is best to bring along - ringgit, Euro or pounds (still have some from previous trips)?

its around 45baht to 70baht depending on wat kind of food. Normal street hawker food will be priced like what i say.

I did a research on currency, its better to change your Bahts in Msia. Its around RM1 to 9.78baht. You can bring your extra foreign currency to bangkok. No problem. Authorised Bank Money changers are available. Ringgit are acceptable in thailand biggrin.gif

The price of food & etc is slightly cheaper or similar to KL. So just prepare soemthing similar to your daily food as you are in KL.

It's either:

RM1 = 9.7baht or 100bath to RM10.30 haha..BTW, Thai Baht traded in KL is still not to the market rate..Actual market rate should be 10.049bath to RM1 Today..

Meaning Changing in Malaysia is not good-lor..You can see the diff between the bank Negara qouted rate this Morning? RM10.049 and Wawasan although dropped liao to 10.28 still far from the real bank Negara RM10.049. Changing RM in Bangkok might not get good rate as well bcos both countries might not trade RM & TB to the market rate..So the best is to find the best marked to market rate currencies which is..US$

Anyway doing this also very troblesome-lah & the diff also not much.. ~ RM3 to RM10 for every 1000...So agree also if u said change in Malaysia haha

Although having to pay double commission but the result might be good provided you can find good money changer in BKK.

ya... i was expecting a huge diff from using USD to Baht, because the country is filled with Americans.

Since USD dropped to 3.05, i really thought it will be good, but turned out not much biggie..

you are wrong. Cannot generalise. Try changing RM in Taipei, Seoul or even in Vietnam or vice-versa.see how low you will be getting..not only that...sometime they don't accept RM in their countries too.

Let me share my itinerary, ya

My trip is mainly is for shopping..

Sunday
- Reach BKK
- Took Airport Rail Link to Ratchapraprop Station (40 bath)
- Check in PR Place
- Settled and freshen up
- Took BTS from Phaya Thai to Mo Chit for Chatuchak!
(Although they say the closing time for CTC is 6pm, the place is still very crowded from 6pm onwards.)
- Took tuk-tuk back to PR Place (abt 180 baht)
- Rest, shower
- Walk to Pratunam Night Market (have streetfood here also)
- Back to hotel

Monday shopping day!
- Platinum Mall
- Central World
- Siam Paragon
- Hard Rock Cafe

Tuesday sight seeing day!
- Took BTS to Sapthan Taksin
- Buy one day riverboat ticket (150 baht)
- Went to Wat Pho, Wat Arun, Grand Palace
- Then to Phra Arthit Pier to Khao San Road
- Back to Phra Arthit Pier, take boat to Ratchawongse Pier to Chinatown
- Take tuk-tuk back to PR Place
- Rest, shower
- Massage! at Perfect Massage opposite the street of PR Place
(only thb165 for one hour of thai massage)
- Walk-walk and dinner in Pratunam Night Market

Wednesday
- Pratunam Morning Market (clothes are cheap here)
(opens from 5am-9am)
- MBK (like our Sg Wang)
- Siam Discovery (Got Madamme Tussaud Wax Museum)
- Back to Platinum Mall for 2nd round of shopping
- Back to hotel rest
- At night, went out to Siam area again. (we wanted to go to Boots)
- Back to Pratunam area for dinner/supper
- Back to hotel

Thursday
- Check out from PR Place
- Took Airport Rail Link to Airport
- Bye Bye Bangkok

Advisable to reach the airport early as the immigration counter there takes a lot of time! so many tourists and we queued for abt 1 hour. When we are done, it's time to boarding already. We thought of taking our lunch at the airport but no time for that.

Bangkok is defintely worth visiting. especially for shopping laugh.gif

Ummm airport rail link price increase to40THB d instead of 15THB

WOW u tuk tuk most of the time.Quite expensive. I would rather take taxi. Enclosed n with aircond.

Seems like u like going to Pratunam for food. Actually,if u walk towards Platinum as U exit from Hotel turn right head straight to a cross junction , turn left, that whole street got lot's of food too. And famous for Chicken rice. Or can go Platinum 6th Floor food court...

Well if u take local ferry taxi, it will cost less than what u are paying.

Your massage definately cheap. It is usually 200THB per hour

Glad u have a good time there smile.gif

15B was during the intro period. That ended 4 Jan 2011. Now it is tiered pricing depending on stops up to 45B e.g. just like the BTS, MRT, BRT etc.

I was in Bangkok a month ago, spent 3 days working and the remaining 3 days sight seeing. Didnt know much about transport from Suvarnabhum to BKK since company already arranged those big Toyota Commuter Van for us laugh.gif

Day 1 and 3 was spent at Wellgrow Industrial Park about an hour drive from BKK using their new and long flyover. Wellgrow is also the place where durex is made if Im not mistaken hmm.gif

Day 2 was spent at someplace I cant pronounce but it was near Rayong (Detroit of the East) and Pattaya. They brought us to this place to eat crab curry which I dunno what's the restaurant's name.... supposedly famous cos got photo of Thai king and PM and Jap PM ate there...

oh and u'll be surprised with the numbers of CIMB banks u'll find there... can change money there the rate not bad
