Greetings,

What's Picaday
Picaday's (This Thread) is created for you guys to share any interesting pictures that you snap daily and also for those who don't have a thread @ Photo Gallery due to any reason.

Picaday's Rules and Regulations
- No, Picaday is not a place for you to spam or increase your post count. Picaday's main objective is to encourage more people to post their pictures here and share knowledge among each other.

- One-liner comments e.g. "Niceeeee~~!!!" are considered as spam. Kindly include the reason why you like or dislike his/her picture or suggest ways to improve the shot should you want to comment on someone's photo. Please do not go off topic.
- Don't post your pictures here if you are those weirdos who can't accept genuine critiques or comments on your pictures. You have been warned. This place is for everyone to share their view be it a compliment or critique on your photos and we don't want immature photographers crying like a little girl after getting some genuine comments.

Very nice set of colors, but I think the it would be much better if the whole figurine is focused.

Too under exposed, and too much bokeh. You want to show the whole chicken thing as your subject, not just the piece ma. If the background chilly is distracting, can always clone it off.

I think it's a charcoal burner.

AND, this calls for CLS for better lighting!

The light trail from the burning charcoal can be your ambient light, for the light trails. But your background light is not bright enouhg. Having a flash or 2 will definitely lighten the mood up, not even CLS sometimes, just a bit of light painting.

Somehow that filter made the cameras metering to turn everything else to have a tint of magenta tongue.gif

But a great idea! maybe I should try sometime

That's awesome. Really nailed the focus on that one.

Not sure about this shot. I like the subject and the little details, but something seems off to me. Thoughts, anyone?

IMO, the shot could be more interesting if it has a compressed perspective (need a longer focal range).

I think the background (Sky) is too overwhelming. Perhaps darken it by a notch or 2 will give a better effect. Right now, I duno where to concentrate.

over-tilting sometimes can kill a nice photo. try about 15-30 degrees of tilt as a starting point. (does not apply to all photos) but i love your lomo-ish PP style.

PP ? photoshop ? or PowerPoint ?@@

PP here 99% of the time would mean post processing as not everyone would use photoshop for their editting work.

why get it next time when u capture picture? Don't tell me you write those data to a piece of paper before u take a picture?

You can always right click on the image you copied from your cam. It will show the EXIF under "detail" tab

Deliberate because of the tiles themselves.

I tried to edit the WB to what I like... didn't turn out as expected. But it still brings out the tiles so I left it alone.

I tried making beef soup noodles today.

Simple style with onion, beef and chives sauteed together. Then add the broth and pour into them noodles.

Bak Kua (肉干) is Malaysian version of jerky - little squares of dry-treated meat charcoal-grilled to perfection.
I LOVE eating these piping hot slices of Bak Kua - sweet, chewy, YUMMYLICIOUS & full of tantalizing flavors!

I like the tone, but I feel that if you put the subject (the cute boy and girl) a little bit up, giving it a more eye level look and less 'overhead' would have a better impact. (really couple ar? The boy is cute leh .. )

How slow/fast was your shutter? Looks like got camera shake. Singaporean car, can see. but I think for this shot, if you had turned on the cabin light to give it a little ambient. Could probably remove the dots on the windscreen.

Since this is my 1st time shooting macro, i hope all the sifus can shoot(positively) as hard as possible to help me improve...

yeah, i know this is abit OOF

2)

*
One thing I like and notice about macro photography is that, photographers always like to have the 'body' of their insect blurred. Why? Another important thing is always focus on the eyes. When you look at a living thing, the eyes is always the thing that people look at first. If that's clear, psychologically the picture will look clear. (unless it's really messsed up)

Where's the EXIF?

Most of the shots I think is not properly framed. Sorry to say this but it looks very normal.

Example, your first shot, you have got nice lights on the top. Some really good lighting at the center. But the chrismas looking lights on the trees, are way too distrating.

Second shot, I assume your target is the tower, but I find it too distracting with the lights on the right roof. If you are showing the picture as a whole with no certain subjects, then what is that 2 half lantern doing on the left side?

Third, your angle a bit too low, like trying to do upskirt picture like that. sad.gif

I like the contras that you have on the picture. The highlights and the exposure is just perfect. What I cannot see is what are you trying to show. Remove the blue oil filter on the bottom right side of the picture, it would be better then!

Are you on auto mode on this? or perhaps semi auto? The snow confused the camera, and thought it was over exposed. A quick bump of the exposure should fix the problem. Remove that thing on the left side of the picture too tongue.gif

try cropping the picture to only the head with the clutter of bubbles and the hand holding the bubble stick. I think that would look much more better than a full body one.

haha..yup..it suffers from a lil bit of motion blur with my not-so-steady-hands...the shutter was 1/5s..my comfortable zone would be 1/30s and above >.<
actually the original shot was alot brighter..it was my post-processing that causing it to be darken..im suspecting the dots might b dust/sand tho..coz the picture was taken after i drove it for a ride..and there was a lorry with lotsa sands infront of me..lol..my bad for not noticing it in advance..could have remove it during my editing..now lazy already..zzzz..

i like the way you bumped up the levels and color on the girl, but try not to clip the highlights at the same time as well, this is to keep the details in the snow. that's one of the purpose camera IQ tends to underexp bright pics. i'd normally look at the histogram and pull the slider right till the edge, then stop. if the subject's still insufficient, use masking with a 3-4px feathered edge

WHoaa .. almost right on the spot.

The lens flare makes it look even better, I think.

I would however bump up the exposure a little though. smile.gif

good question haha..
well no tripod makes it hard to even go for a good shot at f/8~11 even at iso 1600

One of the few travel family trips that I regret not carrying a tripod along with me..

just my opinion; it would be better if the focus point is on her eyes (seems like more on her arm in the pic)..also i would prefer it just slightly darker, a bit bright now (or maybe it's just my monitor..)..

i think you got me wrong, that photo isnt mine. i didnt say i like it, neither do i dislike it. its just that the photo doesnt say anything. just a head and a lot of spots at the back, which in many cases, would be quite a distraction away from the subject matter. if those were lights at night, then that would be another case altogether, but then it would still need proper framing to get the effect right.

Very nice pic.
But would have benefitted more if the left hand side did not have the orange color.
Suggest turning this shot into black & white. wink.gif

u're absolutely right about cropping smile.gif for my earlier photos i had to crop a lot to get a good composition. now less la, but sometimes i just frame extra wide juz in case i wanna use other parts of the photo during PP hehe. u'll learn to frame better next time and no need to crop smile.gif

i like the b&w effect. i think you should flip the picture so it doesnt look like a mirror image

This is one of my first DSLR shot. It was shot not even with my own DSLR. It was my friends'. I was so fascinated so I tried it out. But of course, I can't just forget the freedom and possibilities of taking pictures with a DSLR, so, not very long after that, my a230 was born. smile.gif

Not sure why I can't extract the EXIF details, must be I have done something wrong to it or I have overdone my editing. hmm.gif
Anyway, the colour was purposely overdone to emphasise on the colourfulness of this shot.
It was taken with 18-55mm IS, probably ISO is 200. Other details can't remember anymore.

Yeah agree with achew.... Chuppy2, your watermark is too big, maybe you can adjust the font size and reposition it again at the top left. In that way, it will not distract the object too much. smile.gif

QUOTE(nicotine @ Mar 1 2010, 10:05 PM)
really good, hmmm just wondering how the flash were setup and how you minimize the glass reflection..
*
Thanks! I positioned the flash behind the glass firing directly towards the camera which eliminated the possibility of reflection. In certain cases this didn't provide enough light for the body of the fish, so I used the popup for fill light, but since the lens was so close to the glass(almost touching in fact) the reflection from the popup didn't show up either.

It seems somewhat out of focus. other than that, still okay. Or maybe you want to tune the colour so it becomes more vibrant? biggrin.gif

totally awesome! notworthy.gif

IMHO, its better to mask the gradient along the river bank, dont let the lower color spill onto the trees, coz the whites on the leaves are what making the pic stands out in terms of IR photos. i'd probably leave out the foreground and let the treeline grab the attention from the viewer. but kudos to you anyway
